“Lovely experience in the mountains”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2012

A place to get away from the commercial tourist trail. Ecofriendly resort where they cook local food every day. We enjoyed everything we ate here. Breakfast lunch and dinner all tasty and good value.

We were worried about the temperature, as we visited early Aug. The days were hot, particularly down near the sea, but in the evenings, the mountain cools down, and we coped fine, with the windows open and a gentle breeze.

After 4 days we left refreshed and recharged!

we prefer this hotel in winter, when you can sit at the fireplace and enjoy being tet-a-tet with the nature. everything, with zero exclusion, in the hotel is made of eco-safe materials, including the buildings, room decoration, linen etc etc. they use water from mountain strings (it's so tasty and sweet!), and everything that the restaurant offers was cultivated at the nearby farm. of course no tv, wifi or other modern luxuries, and the electricity is produced by the solar panels. absolute paradise!

It’s a perfect place to escape from the rest of the world. Situated in the middle of natural beauties, surrounded by mountains and hills, it brings you quietness and happiness.
The last 2 km of the road there are quite challenge full but it’s worth it. The pearl is that it was restored original village, where you can feel like living as a local 50 years ago. The houses are really cozy and admired by us.
The restaurant is offering Mediterranean / local food which is fresh and really tasty. Would recommend to everyone tired of overcrowded touristic towns. In plus, it’s real paradise for hiking-lovers. 30-40 minutes’ drive from there and you are in another paradise – Elafonisi beach. We’ve been there just 2 days, having booked the place in suspicion we won’t like it. But we enjoyed it so much, that next time probably it would be worth full to book all your vacations there, enjoying the natural beauties and Elafonisi beach. Just to prevent – it’s not a place for cosmopolitans and it doesn’t’ offer you a luxury accommodation, however everything needed is provided. A really magnificent place to stay!

Room Tip: Charge your mobile phones and cameras before going there, as the access to electricity is limited. H...

There is a place in our ignorant world where courteous, creative, true, funny, honest and diligent people live and work together.. I discovered Milia six years ago, I visited Milia in July this year and I will return while my stomach will begin digesting itself on the way up, like always. Let the lovely olives and mountain tea give momentum to my "grand entrée" again! Summer Aubergine salad and winter Mountain one will always lead to great lunch, whatever is on the menu. Amusing and descriptive service, best foods, wooden surface, rough stone walls around and I'm done. Milia is in my veins., or stomach, whatever!

Room Tip: Restored house where father of the owner lived is just superb, I did not mention any number navigati...

If you're about to shut down a while and get away from the real world you should seriously consider this place. Sent by recommendation to peace of heaven we found ourselves at home. Comedian and extremely helpful Staff is real asset to this place and we enjoyed every single moment spent in Milia. Fortunatelly we prolonged our stay on the end and we're looking forward to come and stay even longer next time. Position of the place is perfect for those who like walks. Food is adorable and rooms are cute. This is our best Mediterranean stay so far.

Room Tip: Larger rooms, larger beds, larger outer space.

Surprise after never ending dirt road swiftly revealed our best choice. FIRST what we asked was about mains and phone charger! The most solitary place we ever seen unveiled itself in a blast. Most unique reception on the planet Earth was a Strawberry compensation for delay - room wasn't ready so we were sent to pick Strawberries arround. Thanks! Lemonade was well worth of delay too, possibly the best we ever had. As we already saw few rooms in the meantime our request for different room was considered and solution found on spot. Zoran was very detailed and helpful while giving us further guidelines. Wondering around Milia is adventurous and scenery over cliffs simply breathtaking. Milia signature is visible from above but better on plate and food is just delicious. Wild greens and Burekis are highly recommended and servings are enormous. Highlight would be Chickpeas Eggplant and coocked Beef too. Any leftovers (few) one can take to the cats. At Milia can interfere in some activities without any hindrance. Inspite of that we never managed to show up early and make bread as we initially arranged. Beside walks we ate and slept more then ever. FINALLY, we did not manage to use mains as we forgot our cell phone completely. This memorable "back to the roots" experience will bring us back again for sure..

Room Tip: Larger rooms are best.

This was our second visit to Milia - the first being in 1998. We remember Milia as a small, intimate retreat with kind hearted hosts and great food. Perhaps our expectations for our second visit - some 14 years later - were too high. Yes, Milia has grown and it now accommodates many more people. Yet the rooms are still authentic and comfortable in their simplicity. What's changed for us is the spirit of Milia. Our greeting was perfunctory - there was no description of what might be on offer - and the service at the restaurant was robotic. Perhaps they have just become too busy but the sharp tongue of the host ( described in another recent review) detracted from the spirit of the place. What hasn't changed is the lovely fresh food. The meals were mostly terrific.

On the downside our room went uncleaned one day but all the facilities worked just fine.
