“Better than we expected!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2014

This was our first visit to Crete, and travelling with friends we hoped the GK beach Hotel would be just what we were looking for... We were not disappointed, it is what is says on the tin, right on the beach, the location is excellent, and the views from our balcony in block "A" just stunning! we were lucky enough to be right on the end, looking out to the the clear Blue sea, and behind us the White mountains in the distance.. well what more could you want.We were very pleased with the attention to detail, from all the Simpsons staff, and equally the local staff, who made our stay more enjoyable, by going that extra mile. The Restaurant food was excellently cooked by Demetrius, and the very attentive barman Babis made sure we didnt go thirsty, like all good barmen he never forgets, what your favorite tipple is, and although we did on occasion wander into Kalyves we were drawn back to whiling away our time on the Beach.. and then to the bar. The Hotel is extremely peaceful, and as all the rooms are complete with air- con and fridges, which is handy, if you wish to retire from the heat of the day to sit on your balcony and sip a cool drink, we have been to many Greek Islands, and stayed in some good Hotels but We all thought the GK was the best by far.

Room Tip: All the rooms are spacious, but the rooms in block A are further from the Pool, and therefore quiete...

The Hotel and the facilties are very good, the food is excellent and the people are wonderful. We relaxed completely and then went exploring. The location is ideal for going in to Hania, which we want to see more of and the magnificent beaches at Farsalana.

Second time at the GK. First a week 2 years ago then a fortnight this June. Crete how it should be. A few steps to the beach, friendly staff, excellent service, lovely grounds great food...
Simpson arranged everything perfectly answering all queries efficiently and quickly and staff had excellent knowledge of the resort and area.
Hire a car and explore the island it's worth it and take a bit of time to adjust to the laid back Greek culture in Kalyves. Don't expect everything in town to be polished and modern, just try the restaurants and eat Greek. We had excellent food in all restaurants we visited and fabulous service.

Room Tip: Access to the upper stories is at the back so if you want kids to nip in and out to the pool, take a...

Where do I begin???? It's the attention to detail which really made this hotel stand out for us. The room was pretty with fresh decor, the bed was extremely comfy (I have back problems so always suffer...not here!), a large balcony with comfy chairs overlooking the grounds/pool/beach.
The kitchenette was a surprise and enabled us to make our own lunches (supermarket a short walk), with fridge, 2ring hob , ample crockery.
It was great to have a good quality ironing board, iron and clothes airer with ample pegs on the balcony; the hair drier was also a good brand, together with the iPod docking station on the desk.
The sun beds around the pool were wonderful, so too the huge soft beach towels provided.
The room was cleaned every morning by two lovely, polite ladies; the staff were all really friendly and chatty ( but not in your face).
Another great feature was the ample storage; wardrobe with lots of wooden hangers and whilst the bathroom wasn't the biggest I've seen-there was lots of storage space for all your toiletries ( cupboards under the sink and on the wall-excellent!) so it was great......shower had 2 heads and both were really heavy!
The hotel is in a quiet location but we had some great trips out in the car ( provided free before 20th May!). We left our balcony doors open at night as it was heavenly waking up to the sound of the waves on the beach!
The breakfast was lovely by the pool each morning ( we often brought it up on a tray and ate on the balcony).... Most of it was local produce and very fresh......the orange juice was to die for!
The restaurant menu was perhaps a bit limited and more like 'beach bar' food, but each evening there was a 'special' which added to the choice. Whilst we ate elsewhere most evenings, many people ate here every evening and were more than happy with it.
Generally, the restaurant is a joy due to its fresh decor and of course, being literally a stones throw from the beach.
The Simpson rep was very helpful and not 'in your face', and the reception area had a great library packed with books and games for you to borrow.
All in all.....a fabulous hotel and one of the most relaxing holidays we've had!

Room Tip: The ground floor rooms brilliant if got kids or you're not too good with stairs......balcony ope...

I usually never write reviews on anything but this time I just could not stop myself. We stayed at the GK Beach Hotel in October 2013 and the entire trip was faultless. We have used Simpson Travel before on a trip to Corsica and were very pleased with the service. However this time it was even better. The attention to detail was excellent for example the correct child seating set ups in the airport transfers. I especially like the fact the presence of their Representatives is known but never felt.

Now on to the Hotel itself, words cannot describe how tranquil this place is. The staff felt like family by the time we left. The owners were so incredibly hospitable it was like they had invited us into their home. The actual setting is idyllic, on the beach, by the pool in a few steps, the view from the restaurant/bar area is unsurpassable. The buffet breakfast was fantastic, I could live off the Greek yoghurt and homemade honey. The rooms were perfect set up with a kitchenette which I had not expected, this came in extremely helpful having two young children. Plus the cleaners were excellent, everyday the rooms were cleaned to a high standard, to the point of carefully arranging the kid's toys in a playful position on the beds. They even brought in extra fruit bowls and tea towels when the noticed we were buying food stuff and using the utensils.

All in all, I cannot be anymore positive about GK Beach Hotel! I cannot wait to go back one day and that is saying something as I never usually want to go back to the same holiday destination!

Unfortunately I haven't loaded the 650 pictures we took on this holiday as I am writing this from my ipad, but take my word for it, they are stunning.

There are loads more great things I could write about, Kalyves, Simpson and GK but I am getting RSI in my fingers :)

Room Tip: Garden suite

Very good position right on beach but also close to town of Chania, access to plenty of good walks through the olive groves & by the coast. Very clean & simple, very friendly courteous, helpful staff. Good buffet breakfast with good lunch selection. Dinner menu limited but well cooked, plenty of good nearby tavernas to explore for evening meals.

Room Tip: Higher rooms have unrestricted view when picking sea view.

We have just returned from a holiday in Crete, staying at GK Beach Hotel. This is the second time we have visited GK Beach this year because we just love the peaceful, quite location and the friendly staff at the Hotel. We have stayed in 6M and 7M which are both lovely but 7M (Kolatsos suite) is the one we prefer. The beds are very comfortable and GK Beach is one of the few Hotels where we don’t suffer from backache by the third day.
GK Beach is small family run Hotel and all the staff really tried to make our stay comfortable, from providing pashminas for the ladies when it gets colder at night, sharing local knowledge and providing advice on places to visit.
Breakfast is provided and there was always a great selection to choose from including fresh coffee, fruit, a hot selection and the owners own local yoghurt and honey and home made sweets.
The sandy beach is quiet with sunbeds and shades reserved for guests it feels more like a private beach but this was in September and not sure if this would be the case in August.
Kalyves is a small town with a great choice of tavernas (about a 15 min walk from GK Beach) and an ideal location for visiting other places in Western Crete.
