Returned from two weeks stay at the Astoria on June 21st. The hotel is very well situated, in a quiet location, just a short walk from the beach, & near to bus stop 20 for good access to other areas on the island, We had intended to hire a car for a few days but decided that this was unnecessary as the bus service is excellent (2 euros per person to Skiathos town) & there is only one main road on the island. The buses, however, are packed at busy times & late night returns - standing room only.
The hotel is very clean, with beautiful, well-maintained gardens, & a good pool area with sunbeds & shade.
We found the room a bit small, but adequate, with lots of hanging space (& hangers!) but not much drawer space. It was impossible to shower without soaking the floor but the 'wet' room soon dries out. We found the beds very comfortable & slept well.
Balconies are located adjacent with your neighbour, so there's no privacy if you're chilling out on the balcony at the same time.
Breakfast was ok, hot (limited) & cold choices, & you can have as much as you want. There was a lot of congestion in the small breakfast service area which could do with a major re-design. Staff are helpful & courteous.
There's a good selection of tavernas within walking distance of the Astoria- the Victoria was excellent, good value with great service, & also recommend the Troulos hotel. Skiathos town & the old port are well worth a few evening trips, with several good restaurants & bars.
Overall would recommend the Astoria - but please sort out the breakfast area!
