First of all - sorry for the late review!
Our family - myself, husband and 15 year old daughter - stayed at Filia in August 2013 and had a fantastic time.
We were given a warm welcome at the bottom of cardiac hill by Christos and Ann-Marie who took us up to the apartments in their minibus. Chris then carried our very heavy case up the 3 flights of stairs for us and introduced us to our room on the top floor. The views were to die for! We then headed down to bar and met some of the people that we already seemed to be friends with after chatting on Filia's facebook page. Even though this was our first time there, it was already like hanging out with old friends. We enjoyed our first meal cooked by the wonderful Filia herself and we wished each other 'happy birthday' (it was my birthday the day we landed and Filia's too!).
Yes, the rooms are basic but they are spotless and cleaned daily by the lovely Despina. We paid for the aircon which was a godsend especially during the night. Any problems (of which we had none) and a quick word with Chris will sort you out. We don't go on holiday to spend it in our room! The beds were comfortable and the small kitchen area was more than well equipped to enable us to prepare light lunches. I don't know what some people expect to be honest.
I have seen some comments complaining that Filia studios are a little out of the way but seriously, how else are you going to enjoy those wonderful views over Troulos without a little climb up a hill? Trust me, it's worth the climb! The gardens are absolutely beautiful with flowers blooming everywhere and the pool is kept scrupulously clean. Oh, mustn't forget the trademark goats either. The beach is a 10 -15 minute casual stroll via the 'field route'. At the bottom of 'THE' hill, cross the road, turn right and a few metres on the left is a gate across some grassy land. Follow this to the bottom, go along, turn left after the Sunset Taverna, take the next left and it will bring you out on the main road right opposite the entrance for the beach. Voila!
As others have said, nothing is too much trouble. Chris sorted out a hire car for us and bicycle hire for my cycling-mad husband. While my husband was off out on his bike myself and my daughter went on a day trip to Skopelos with another couple and their daughter - again, organised by Chris. We mostly did our own thing but joined in on the sunset trip and bbq and met even more people.
Anybody who finds something to moan about after their visit to Filia needs to stick to the large impersonal hotels where nobody cares about you or your holiday. However, if you like small and friendly where your hosts remember your name and treat you as friends then you won't be disappointed.
So, a big, BIG thank you to Ann-Marie, Christos and of course Filia herself for a fantastic holiday with happy memories that will stick with us for a long time to come.
Unfortunately we can't make it again this year but won't hesitate to return as soon as we can. The friendliness of Filia studios stays with you long after you get home and leaves you wanting more.
