Do not stay at this hotel. It is a 3 star hotel passing itself off as a luxury 6 star boutique hotel. It is totally overpriced for what it offers.
On arrival at the hotel there was no-one to help us with our luggage. After a lengthy check in, which took place in a nicely decorated, but boiling hot, un-airconditioned lounge, we were told our room was not going to be ready for another 20 minutes (we arrived at 6pm). We were offered a room to use while we waited, but we didn't use it as 20 minutes seemed not so long to have to wait, and we didn't want the hassle of opening and closing suitcases. 20 minutes turned out to be 45.
The room was a huge disappointment. Despite very attractive pictures on the Grecotel Website, the room we were staying in (a Junior suite, at a cost of EUR 480 per night no less) was very plainly decorated and not at all welcoming. There were only two small pictures on the big, bare white-washed walls, and the furniture was very basic. The impression the room gave was that looked more like a storage room than a "luxury" suite.
The bathroom deserves a special mention. Tiny narrow bathtub, cramped area around the toilet, cheap fixtures and fittings, shoddy workmanship. No separate shower, mouldy shower curtain. The sink was bizarrely huge. The only mirror in the room was above the sink.
The view from this ground floor room was basically rubbish. The view was mostly looking out over the flat rooves of the villas in the garden in front (the hotel is on a slope), with a few token bits of blue sea visible.
Because we arrived late, and therefore hadn't made a reservation for the a-la-carte restaurant, which was apparently needed, we had dinner at the buffet restaurant of the next door 5 star hotel, part of the same hotel chain. (The hotels share some facilities).
We arrived for dinner at 9:30, not that late for Greece, and were allowed in as a "favour", normally the buffet closes at 9:00!!! The food was absolutely dreadful. Spaghetti drowning in oil, overcooked vegetables, dried out meat, strangely smelly fish, bone dry bread. It was truly awful, I genuinely couldn't believe that food that bad was still available for human consumption.
The staff at the hotel did make an effort to try to prepare something for us from the kitchen, but even that turned up overcooked.
Back at the room, the bed was not particularly comfortable, and was creaking everytime we moved. The bed consisted of a double bed frame, and two separate single matresses with separate sheets placed on it. Not very romantic. The hotel advertises that it uses "finest bed linens". Trust me, they don't.
Breakfast was the final straw. The breakfast buffet is in the main pink coloured building, and guests sit out on the terrace. The food was uncovered and was crawling with flies and wasps (including a couple drowning in the honey). The food was hardly any better than what we'd had the night before in terms of quality.
After that, we decided we'd seen enough and checked out. The idea behind this hotel is a good one (belle epoque inspired etc..) but 5 star hotels are all about details, and getting things right, and this hotel just gets all the important things wrong. Yes, the staff tried to be polite and helpful, but when there is so much wrong with the place their efforts are totally wasted.
Don't go there, it costs a lot of money, and unless you've never stayed in a decent hotel and have no idea of what you should get for your money, you will be disappointed.
