“AMAZING! Best holiday to date!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2010

I cannot rate this hotel/resort highly enough.....myself, husband and 3 year old daughter have just returned from a two week stay at the Alykanas Village Hotel. Quick transfer from airport to Hotel. When we arrived at the hotel we were lucky enough to have been given a room with a balcony facing the pretty beach, with panaromic view of the coastline and views of Kaefolina. Rooms clean and maid service most days. Pools are great, the front pool, on the beach front, being the quieter of the two. The beach is clean and the water is clear and warm, perfect for our 3 year old as it is quite shallow. Kids club was excellent and well run, my daughter loved it and went for 2 hours every day of the holiday. We ate at many of the restaurants and didnt ever have a bad meal. Some of our favourites being Cosy Corner (a bit of home from home with lovely friendly staff!), Lemon tree (which does a great greek night), Nerida (5 min walk along the beach) and Mantalena - all of which have lovely areas for the kids to play. We visited the Cuba bar most evenings - does great cocktails! We took a boat trip to the shipwreck with "Golden Dolphin" company located on the beach outside the Nerida restaurant. It is a lot cheaper than booking with Thomsons and you go on a small boat which gets you to the shipwreck before all the big boats do (some carrying 200 people!) Excellent trip as it also takes you to the Blue Caves. Overall an excellent holiday, I cannot fault it, perfect for families with young children! Will we go back? Absolutely!

We stayed at this hotel in june 2010 and we were blessed with the Greek Gods bringing an abundant amount of sunshine, we found the hotel to be very clean and the staff very helpful and friendly. The kids club is a must for any child with lots to do all day long, the tavernas outside of the hotel are all very good with lots to offer to cater for everyones taste. A nice bar we found was Bonkers Bar where you could enjoy a nice cool drink and even a dip in their pool. A must to do is taking the horse and cart to a fantastic taverna known as the lemon tree and thursday night is greek night with music and dancing from around 8pm they also have a very well equipped play area for the kids which our son thoroughly enjoyed which meant we visited a couple of times. Its a good idea to look in the swap box at the kids club for toys, pool toys and lots more... look before buying toys for the pool etc;./ we found this out to late after we'd been shopping but we will remember it for next time as we are already thinking of returning to the resort as it had everything to offer for all our needs.

By the towels we mean the daily dawn pilgrimage to reserve the sun-beds, if you leave it after 8.30AM you have no chance! We also had a problem with the availability of the towels in our apartment. They were changed only once throughout our week stay - we complained, but the receptionist insisted that the towels had already been changed again. We persisted & were grudgingly given 2 towels between 4 of us with a promise that the whole bale would be changed the following day - it wasn't!
If you have a late flight home, try & pre-book a late check-out room before departure with Thomson. The apartments offer a courtesy room, but it's rubbish - it's basically a public shower room with a couple of toilet cubicles & people coming in & out as you are trying to change.
The bar is very expensive, go over the road to Bonkers or Dilemna instead. Mantalena & The Lemon Tree are great restaurants with excellent children's play areas.
The Thomson entertainment teams are friendly & enthusiastic & work very hard to ensure that everyone has fun. The pools & play area are great & most of the views from the apartments are gorgeous. Overall this is a good place to stay, just be aware of the afore-mentioned.

Just 25 mins coach trip from the airport. Friendly staff. We had a studio for 4 which was more than adequate. The apartment was spacious, clean and modern, looking over the pools. The maid visited every day. The pools were great, especially for the kids. This complex is right on the beach, which is beautiful. It had great views. The beach is not too busy, with nice clean sand. The sea was clear and shallow for a long way out. Our kids age 9 and 6 enjoyed all the activities and kids clubs. The staff worked very hard to entertain us. Unfortunately the evening entertainment is in the basement, which is fine, but wouldn't it be nice to have this outside??!! There are some great restaurants, The Lemon tree being our favourite. At the end of the drive you pay 5euros for a horse and cart ride there and for the trip back you can get their free mini bus or pay again for the horse and cart. You can walk along the beach to a couple of tavernas - the Neriada and The Mill - all very nice. In the village are a number of nice Tavernas which are only a 5 - 10 minute walk away. This place is ideal for families with kids, but I wouldn't recommend it for people without kids. There were no packs of dogs roaming freely, just the odd dog, which were no bother.

The location of this hotel means it does exactly what it says on the box! We were very lucky to be given a top floor beach facing room and the views and location could not have been better. The room was very clean and the maid service was fantastic Our son is 8 and we did not use the childrens clubs but he loved the freedom of the complex. The lady in the mini mart gave him sweets on our last day which sums up how friendly the complex is.
The beach is just perfect for small children I could not understand why people prefered the pools as the sea was much warmer. However this meant we had a near empty beach. It very gently slopes out, very safe and clear and great for snorking. There are kayaks to hire, jet skis, boats etc with a clearly marked no go zone so swimmers are safe.
We hired a suzuki jeep from Xenos, couldn't fault the service, although bear in mind that petrol was 1.62 euros. We went up to the Blue Caves and generally got lost for a couple of days, don't trust a Greek sign post!
We used the company right down by Cape Skinari to go out and see the caves, something Brothers I have forgotten their name. The most experienced boatman I have ever met though. It cost 7.50 euros each and our son was free. It was a glass bottomed boat and we were given the opportunity to dive in and do some snorking too. They also offered combined visits to Smugglers Cove.
The supermarket in Alykanas is very expensive even for Greek brands. We found The Stonehouse did the best and cheapest Gyros at 2 euros. The Apollo was good also Vagis and Dionysis. We went to The Lemon Tree on our last night by horse and cart which now costs 5 euros but good fun and the owner offers you a lift home. We walked home in an alcoholic induced haze after being given complimentary glasses of wine.
I would advise taking a plug in mosquito killer, the repellent we took was not enough and both my husband and son were quite badly bitten. All in all The best holiday we have had for a long time.

We have been back from our holiday for two weeks now and are already trying to plan to go back! The whole experience was excellent from start to finish. Gloria and her team were always happy to help. We arrived at the accommodation by taxi and having emailed through beforehand Gloria had managed to allocate us a Sea-View room which was amazing. We had booked a year in advance and been given the chance of a themed apartment which my 2 year old son adored. The Thomson reps took us up to our room which was a big help and it was a good size with all the usual self-catering facilities. We found that because our apartment wasn't getting as much direct sun, we didn't need the air-con at all which was nice as I had budgeted for it so saved some euro's. Our safety deposit box lock was jammed but within 20 mins a guy came to replace it and no further problems. The weather during the two weeks was ideal for us ranging between around 22 and 28 and a mix of cloudy and sunny days which with a toddler was exactly what we wanted. When we arrived for the first week we were told that there was only around 50 guests so everywhere was nice and quiet and you could really take your pick of things to do. As a parent who doesn't really like the idea of palming off my child on holiday, I have to say I was very impressed with the facilities for the kids clubs and creche. My son was 2 weeks off being allowed to go to the youngest group so could only attend the creche and so he did attend 2 sessions towards the end of the holiday as he was really taken with Dizzy Daz and Little Laura!!! The evening disco was a must for little ones however with it being early in the season it was a little disorganised but the children were happy regardless and Thomson the Dog's appearance at the end was loved by all - I can still find myself humming the song:-)!! The Thomson the Dog VIP visit was brilliant - my son had him sat on his bed and he beamed. There are loads of Taverna's and bars and Alykes is a lovely stroll away where we found there to be some nice places too. There are quite a few English people who live over there who are happy to give you the benefit of their knowledge. Our favourite places to eat in Alykanas were La Carretta and Taj Mahal and in Alykes we really liked Paradosiako and the Relax where my son had some in depth conversations with Lydia there about Ben 10!! We didn't have a bad meal though and had a different taverna most nights. Dilemma Bar in Alykanas was a regular haunt as it had everything we needed - play area, mini golf, cocktails and big screens so anyone who is there for the world cup, this is the place to be - we watched the cricket 20/20 final and a great atmosphere. Back to the hotel, the food from the snack bar was very good and the pools were really clean. The maid service was 6 days a week with Sunday being the day off and if you have the Themed room you get Thomson the Dog beach towels which were a big help. I don't have a bad word to say about this place and I think even if you did have a problem, it would be sorted so quickly it wouldn't affect your holiday.
