“Monte da Mosquito”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2013

The Monte da Bravura Green Resort is a very, very good place to stay and relax. It is very calm up there, people are very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was the best and richest we had during our journey through Portugal yet - especially the fresh fruit salad and the scrambled eggs were great after 1 1/2 weeks of partially very boring and simple breakfasts. If you need it: the pools look absolutely clean. So are the rooms, except for some spiderwebs.

One downside I must mention was a very severe mosquito problem (>20 mosquitos, countless bites, ...) in the first night of our stay, which was caused by a not completely mosquito-proof "anti-mosquito-facility" at the window. We told Fernando, the owner, about our finding and he promised to find a solution. I really hope he does resolve this issue because we almost didn't sleep in the first night and our arms and legs still itch like hell. Therefore, I subtract one point from the otherwise quite excellent resort.

Room Tip: Try not to get rooms 12/13. They might still not be mosquito-proof.

We spent only 3 nights in Monte da Bravura. The choice of place away from crowdy Lagos was thouhght-out. We had a rented car that's why it wasn't a problem to reach this place . Service was perfect. The owner (Fernando) helped us to choice interesting places and restaurants around. I agree with comments that this is not a place to organize games and partys but you must remember that this is rather mix of small hotel and agritourist farm than huge holiday resort. For us it was a lovely place and a very good point to start sightseeing tours.

We spent a week here in August. The guest house was just what we wanted. Up in the hills in a remote location, peaceful and tranquil. Our hosts Fernando and Elisabet, were very helpful and full of very useful suggestions of places to go, things to see. We had specific dietary requirements which were no trouble. The breakfasts were to die for. Can't recommend it highly enough unless you are looking for a touristy concrete high-rise.

We had the delight of staying here for 2 weeks in May. We travel extensively and therefore believe we are well positioned to offer a balanced opinion of the resorts/hotels etc where we stay. We submitted our views of this place in May which can be seen below. We had a fantastic time which was made even better by the friendly & helpful approach by the owners. My reason for submitting another review is merely to counter the recent negative comments. Whilst everyone is entitled to their opinion what I would wish to reiterate to anyone considering a stay at this place is simply, GO !!!! You will not be disappointed. I wish I was there now !!!!!!!

If you’re looking for peace, relaxation, tranquillity within a 10 min drive of restaurants/touristy areas/coast then this is the place for you. If you’re looking for a resort/package holiday facilities, being on the beach and everything that comes with it then this won’t be for you.

We recently went on our honeymoon and stayed for 5 nights and it was just what we were looking for. Located near the Barragem dam, excellent breakfasts, 2 swimming pools, amazing views, South/western algarve and Aljezur beaches within easy driving distance, peace and quiet.

Think there are 3 different sorts of rooms so ask Fernando any questions you have upfront (original 2 guestrooms (semi detached style), 4/5 newer single storey rooms in a row alongside these and then some duplex style ones located on the other side of the large pool). We stayed in room 12 (original rooms) which was at the edge of the property and really quiet with a private sitting area (we asked for a peaceful/private area). We slept loads and this is what I’m always after on holiday to recharge. Can’t comment on other rooms but I'd recommend room 12/14.

Pluses
Fernando was an excellent host – very friendly, answered/sorted questions, recommendations etc
Breakfasts
The view
The peace
The quiet
The location
Recommended local restaurants off the beaten track
Think there are 12 or so rooms so it’s a small place.
Would recommend for couples more then families

Watch-outs
You will need a car to travel to restaurants/beaches etc
It’s a small, peaceful hotel of about 12 rooms so facilities are limited in terms of food/drinks. You get a lovely breakfast and a small honesty bar but don’t expect anything else onsite

There are things that can be improved anywhere you stay but the charm of this place is that it’s a small, peaceful place offering you a lovely breakfast, lovely rooms, and areas to chill and relax. Would be good to maybe have access to some basic food/ice creams (for when you really can’t be bothered going anywhere because you’ve lazed by the pool all day) and maybe topping up coffee/tea in the rooms but they’re really minor points.

It’s a shame about the negative reviews as I find it hard to see this Fernando being like this based on my experiences. Base your expectations on what I’ve described and you’ll love your stay, if you’re not looking for this then somewhere else would suit you better.

Room Tip: Room 12 is on the edge of the property and was very quiet - no one else walks past your room.

We stayed here at the beginning of July. The directions to get there were thorough and we had no trouble finding the place. It is in a beautiful setting with very well kept gardens. The pool area is fantastic with great views over the hills. Fernando was charming and helpful with directions to good beaches and restaurants.
The down side for us and thus the average review is that i expected that we could have lunch or dinner at the hotel and that there was a bar area to relax. There was an honesty bar so there wasn't a lack of opportunity to have a drink ,just a lack of atmosphere. We only stayed for one night and brought a take away piri piri back but we all felt a bit self conscious eating it on the terrace.
The rooms were very pleasant but as we were travelling as a four with two teenage daughters we were surprised that our bed was huge and the girls had to share a small sofa bed. I may have misunderstood but on booking I thought that we had two separate rooms rather that a maisonette with a small sitting room that doubles as a second bed. As a result the € 160 for the night was excessive.
There was a second pool with a great diving area and the breakfast was superb with plenty of choice.
Ultimately a lovely place to relax but I think that it could become a little claustrophobic if you were there for too long.

Room Tip: Rooms at the top overlooking the pool are very nice, but really only for two unless you have very sm...
