“Sorry but we wont be back”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2011

The hotel needs a facelift walk in showers in the bathroom please. We ate out at some great places as there was little or no atmosphere in the hotel.Great place if you are playing golf all day alas I dont. The day before we left I decided to treat myself and asked for a large wine as I was sunbathing at the pool, they served me it in a beer glass! Just to confirm to you readers I am female and quite petite. The rooms are also dark and dated. This is the first review I have written and I travel abroad four times a year. I complained about the room on first arriving but the only thing they could offer was a suite at more than double the price so the answer was no.Managers I never saw one and nobody introduced themselves to me.Sad but my worst holiday for a long time. We will visit the area again as we checked out some other hotels while we were there.Sadly this hotel was just not right for us

Room Tip: Dark dated and shower over the bath.

Dear Guest,

We are sorry to know that your stay with us did not meet your expectations. We thank you for your feedback, which certainly motivates us to further improve our services.

Regarding your facelift suggestion, we are glade to inform that we do have rooms with renovated bathrooms and walk-in showers, available on request.
We hope you chose to visit us again in the future. We took good note of your preferences and we can certainly suggest a room more suiting to your liking, which unfortunately was not available during your visit.

Just returned from a wonderful 11 days at this excellent hotel. If you want somewhere to relax and recharge the batteries this is the place. It overlooks the Ria Formosa, which is a national park, and the sea. There are some lovely walks along the lagoon and out across the wooden bridge to the beach where the hotel has its own beach chairs and umbrellas. There is a young man there who puts towels on the beds and has bottles of water available.
The WI-Fi in the room was terrible when we arrived but after we reported the problem it was sorted out very efficiently and now works very well. It costs €18 for three days.
The levels of service in the hotel are excellent. Some of the staff have been here for the past 25 years! They are all so friendly and helpful.
We had booked a lagoon sea view room and on arrival were shown to room 244. The hotel is built into the side of a small hill so we went down from reception to our room. It was a very nice large room, well fitted out with a lovely large balcony. The TV showed all the usual English satellite channels. We had a good sized bathroom and separate toilet. The shampoo etc were very nice quality and were refreshed regularly. Every day there was a plate of lovely fruit and a litre bottle of still water. There was a nightly turndown service. All used towels were replaced and a chocolate was left on your pillow. We slept really well in very comfortable beds.
The food in the restaurant is amazing. How someone in an earlier review could call the food average I have no idea !!! Breakfast is wonderful - as much as you want to eat. The chef is standing by to make omelettes, fried eggs etc. The fresh fruit is fantastic. In the evening the food is outstanding. The portions here are large! We never managed three courses and two was difficult!! We reckon the food is some of the best we've had anywhere so do give the restaurant a try during your stay.
There are some wonderful restaurant nearby if you want a change from the hotel.
We want to return to the hotel so we decided to ask about the various different room types in the hotel. You can imagine our surprise when the lady on reception informed us we were in a lagoon side garden room!!!! On arrival we had been allocated the WRONG room!! As we could see the lagoon and the sea - just about through the trees - we hadn't queried the room type. The staff were very embarrassed and because we had been in our room for a week already we didn't want to move to a sea view. Our bill was adjusted so everything was fine in the end. Just make sure you get the right allocation on arrival. The lagoon side rooms are the nicest in our opinion. The gardens are beautiful.
It's a very quiet hotel so if you want entertainment this isn't the place for you. Once a week there's a Managers Cocktail Party.
There were quite a few children in and out during our stay. There is a children's club in the grounds.
We would recommend a car for all or part of the holiday.
The ONE negative is the aeroplane noise as the hotel is near Faro Airport runway. We got used to it and it won't stop us returning to this excellent hotel.
Thank you to all the staff for a wonderful holiday. Be warned you will see us again!!

Room Tip: The lagoon side rooms have lovely views

Second visit to this hotel in 6 years - we've enjoyed holidays in many 5 star hotels in Europe and the US but, for us, none compare to the holidays we've experienced at the Hotel Quinta Do Lago. The General Manager must be very proud of the incredibly effective team he has brought together at this hotel. There is a team spirit amongst the staff which you'd find hard to beat anywhere and that team spirit appears to be focussed on just one objective - making sure I and all of the other guests in the hotel have a relaxing, enjoyable, break.

The hotel is a delight, the location is truly stunning. The food is incredible, and as another reviewer writes, don't worry if you're after something which isn't on the menu, chef is only too pleased to conjure up anything you like.

We'll be going back, but not leaving it as long next time (already on the internet booking another break for later in the year).

Had a most wonderful two weeks earlier this year at this hotel. The staff were excellent and couldnt do enough for us, very friendly and welcoming. Food in the restuarants was superb and if you wanted somehting that wasn't on the menu it was not a problem as the chef created something for you. The rooms were very comfortable and spacious and the housekeeping was excellent. The bar staff were very entertaining and made our holiday more enjoyable with their fun and stories. The pool boy always had our sun loungers ready and waiting for us, regardless of when we turned up at the pool. Would certainly recommend this hotel.

Stayed here one night after the wonderful Vila Joya was booked out..

One of the most impersonal big 5 star hotels I've been in - nothing special in sight, the beach is not very close and certainly not great (it does have a nice beach restaurant, informal, nice service, nice - all that the hotel seems not to be!)

The room was fine, spacious and well appointed - but what an utterly corporate feeling place - we both felt like we were in an airport at times! Very average food too.

Reception staff are pleasant.

Recently returned from another visit to this hotel. In a time when we are all under pressure nad many places in the Algarve have cut back in standards we were amazed that this hotel has been able to maintain the almost impeccable standards they have offered for many years. Of course the room rates reflect this.

The location of the hotel in a large natural parks is wonderful if a quiet holiday is sought.. It is a thrill to enjoy a high quality dinner in the outdoor restaurant. There are 3 other good restaurants near by for which if you like a walk it is not necessary to use a car.

This is a top European hotel .

The last time I wrote about this hotel was in 2004 after a change in ownership. I promised an update which I did write (promise) but the tripadvisor computer rejected it as it looked like a duplication!

Well, my wife and I have just come back from yet another wonderful holiday at this hotel. There has been some refurbishment in the past five years but I suppose that financial restraints could slow this work temporarily.

It is true that many of the bedrooms are not the most modern hotel bedrooms but they are well maintained and extremely comfortable. Housekeeping is excellent.

It is impossible to do justice to the staff. From the moment you arrive the service is impeccable and most importantly friendly. I have never experienced such a warm welcome anywhere.

Food in the restaurant is excellent and there are plenty of superb restaurants in the area. My only complaint (and I struggled to think of something) is that the glasses for fruit juice at the breakfast buffet are very small.

We have stayed in many hotels in Europe and America but this is our favourite - bar none.
