“Basic, but clean and comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

The room was small and basic -- nothing fancy, but clean and comfortable. I thought it was good value for money. It is an easy 10 minute drive from the entrance to Plitvice Lakes, so it is a good place to stay if you're just there to see the lakes. They were nice enough to give us a free late checkout, which was convenient.

The hotel is situated only 8km from the first entrance of the national park Plitvice lakes. It has a restaurant, buffet bar, small supermarket, some souvenirs, ATM and letter box so it's also a stop for passers-by not just hotel guests. I was very satisfied with my double room, it was spacious enough, nice, the furniture seemed recently new (apart from an old style TV), very well heated, clean, the bathroom had a big shower and all the necessary toilletries. The breakfast and dinner were very good, a choice of two menus for dinner. I booked a weekend deal, so we had halfboard, and the tickets for the national park for the entire weekend included in the price. It has a free car park too. All in all, very satisfied.

We had a family room which was quite large and decent. Everything in the room was clean, the beds were fairly good.

Breakfast at the hotel was not quite up to par with other 3-4 star hotels during our trip.

Hotel Grabovac is a very spare hotel with a camp-like feeling in the middle of the Plitvice Lakes region. While not inside the park itself, the lakes are easily accessible from this hotel.
Our room was small with cot-like beds that were rather squishy. I really didn't sleep too well. The bathroom and other amenities were sufficient but far from plush.
The breakfast was passable and the little superette right next door was very convenient and comfortable. It was very well stocked and by buying the little mini-bottles of vodka, we were able to make very affordable cocktails in the bar area.
This hotel ( and the whole region) is only there because of the spectacular lakes and their waterfalls. It is totally worth a visit to hike the trails and wooden boardwalks that skirt the lakes. Take a couple of days here to really get a full view of this park.

The hotel is Motel Six plain I’d rate it 2 Star, 69 euros double with breakfast (10/08). Maybe a better choice are rooms in private homes with maybe a balcony and view for $15 per person. From the parking lot you drag your bags up one flight of stairs, past an ATM machine to the lobby. The good news is all the rooms are the next floor up so you only have one more flight of stairs to go. No bellboys or elevators. A single 2’X4’ operable dormer window, two chairs and a desk. Heating appears to be individually controllable. Sky News and BBC news, no internet access but there is a free wi-fi internet café close by. No Kleenex, no safe, minibar, wash cloths or coffee maker

LOCATION: Good, not great. Not in the park but about a 10 minute drive to the first entrance. Quiet location.

BED/SHEETS/PILLOW: Comfortable bed but nothing special. Sheets and pillow were average.

LIGHTING: Lighting in bedroom was a little dark, bathroom was fine.

BATHROOM/SHOWER: Very basic, great water pressure and temperature.

TOILETRIES: Soap Dispenser in shower , nothing special. Bring your own.

CLEANLINESS: Very clean but since it seems old you don’t get the feeling that it’s really spotless

STYLE OF ROOM: Basic, motel 6ish.

QUIET/LIGHT: The room was quiet. Shades over window let in too much light in the morning.

FOOD: Breakfast was minimal. Two choices of cereal and meats that I wasn’t interested in trying.

TV/INTERNET: No internet in building. TV was of good size and had 2 English channels.

SERVICE: Staff was very pleasant but nothing special

COMMON AREA: Like a cheap motel, nothing good but clean and fine.

TIPS: My research indicated that the Hotel Plitvice is the top choice here but it was booked. Other hotels all seem the same. We were nervous to try a sobe as they looked dark and not so nice at night but when we saw them during the daylight we would have been fine dropping in on one to check it out. A sobe could be the best option in this town.
