“Friendly, Family-Owned Accommodation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2006

We have just returned from the Pardalakis Studios in Gerani, Crete. We did not know what to expect as this was only a 2 star accommodation and brochures said it could be noisy as it was on a main road. We arrived about 11.30pm and were met by the owners off the coach and their family and invited to the bar for a drink. We were made to feel extremely welcome and knew immediately that we would not regret our choice.

The apartments are in 2 blocks - the older block and the newer block. We were in the new block and for a studio, they were pretty spacious. As a family of 5, we had to take 2 studios as this was fine as we were next to each other. Also, on the friendly front, as there were only 32 apartments/studios you got to know everyone so it wasn't like some of these large, inpersonal high rise hotels.

The family couldn't do enough for you - offering free figs, grapes, melon which they grow themselves and giving advice on where to go and what to see.

The studios are about 10 minutes walk to the beach but you do have a lovely pool and garden area to sunbathe and swim therefore if you are not beach lovers this isn't a problem. Gerani is about a 5 minute walk and there are a few restaurants but not many therefore we got the bus into Platanias every night (bus stop is outside the studios) and this took about 15 minutes. Platanias is a busy, bustling resort with several restaurants and bars and some fantastic restaurants on the hillside and on the beach from where you can watch the sunset. The buses run every 20 minutes so it's very easy to get there. You can also stay on the same bus and go into Chania which is also worth the trip.

Overall, we had a fantastic holiday and would definitely recommend it to anyone. Whilst the accommodation isn't 5 star, the welcome, friendliness of the family certainly make up for it.
