“Thankyou for a wonderful stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2011

The villa lanterna has a beautiful position in a tiny village, next to the beach,10mins drive from Dubrovnik. We had the use of a car therefore getting around the area was not a problem and as we beacame familiar with the area found many villages to visit. The villa and staff are so friendly and ensure a great stay. Thankyou to Robert for all your help(specially with the tape) and lovely Doris and Adriana. We were lucky to meet Caterina and her basketball coach husband and family (The owners) Really nice family.Breakfast and Dinner nicely cooked with a good choice. No queing at a buffet here!!
If you like a comfortable ,homely stay with good food and friends, visit here!!

Have just returned from a lovely holiday at Villa Lanterna, having read previous reviews I was prepared for it to be a quiet type of place and thats exactly what it was.Our two bedroom apartment had a stunning view across the bay, rooms were clean and spacious. We booked half board because reviews of the food were good and we knew that there was only one other restaurant nearby. The meals were all freshly cooked and delicious, the only downside being the menu choice was limited when staying half board. The staff, in particular Robert and Doris were always very welcoming and attentive. The free lift to the minimarket was useful, leaving at 10.30 every morning.we took the hotel minibus into Dubrovnik when we wanted some hustle and bustle.it costs 3 euros per person each way.The views from the top of the cablecar are amazing. The highlights of our holiday were a day trip to Mostar and the three island cruise.People have commented about the busy road on the hill up from Stikovica but we didnt find it detracted from the enjoyment of our holiday, its not a road i would walk with children but several times my husband and I walked to the next village which took about half an hour each way, there ispart of the road that splits off so that you come off the busy route and can walk along the seafront which is very pretty.I wouldnt recommend this area for people looking for a lively holiday,we thoroughly enjoyed it as a chance to recharge our batteries in a calm beatiful setting

We stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment, which was spacious well equiped & very clean. We had a balcony with a lovely panoramic view of the bay.
The staff were lovely people, nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant has a comprehensive menu ( Try the "Lanterna Meat Platter" - a mixed grill to satisfy any appetite.
The location was a little remote, with only a couple of Bars on the beach ( no shops within safe walking distance ). A good mini bus service is provided by the Hotel to the shops ( once per day ) & to Dubrovnic ( 4 times per day ) - great place to "chill out" - car hire essential if you want to get about, but use the courtesy bus to Dubrovnic as parking there is very difficult

Very clean, lovely view, amazing staff who bwecame friends and excellent food. The very cheap minibus rides to Dubrovnik Old Town were both essential (due to the horrendous traffic in Dubrovnik and having wine with meals out!!) and cheap. If you are looking for somewhere well away from the normal tourist spots but with beach (pebbles) local food spots and a lovely setting this is the place for you. Best ever syteak I've not cooked myself and tremendous local house wines. Doris, Robert, Boge and Marianna made us so very welcome.

There were several positives and negatives from our visit in June 2011

Positives:
- The staff were incredibly polite and helpful
- The facilities were mostly good (though the air conditioning did not work in our apartment)
- The apartments were a 20-second walk from a small beach/bay, with two restaurants overlooking the water
- The hotel offered a very reliable shuttle bus service to and from Dubrovnik (though it was advertised to us as free but we found out on arrival there was a 6 Euro price (return) per person)
- The on-site restaurant had a wide selection of food and drink for guests to enjoy

Negatives:
- The apartment was very noisy at nightime with the boiler and fridge's pipes rattling throughout the night (bring earplugs!)
- The apartments can be booked for self-catering holidays, but the nearest food shop is a 30 minute walk, with some parts alongside a busy motorway
- Besides the two restaurants on the seafront, there was no local nightlife or entertainment (though Dubrovnik is only 20 mins away by shuttle)
- There was only one sharp knife in the kitchen which was almost snapped off at the handle which was difficult for cooking

These apartments are modern and comfortable and the people who run it are helpful and friendly, however unless you have hired a car I wouldn't recommend them. Apart from a few more apartments there is only a pizzaria and a beach bar in the area. There is absolutely nothing else within safe walking distance, the closest village being 2km along a very busy clifftop road with no pavements and this doesn't have much in it anyway. We enjoyed Croatia but if we returned we would stay in Cavtat which whilst being a bit further from the old town of Dubrovnik is a much better area with cafes and restaurants set round the marina.

Both the studios and 4 person flats were spacious and clean (we only lacked teaspoons), with daily linen change. The location is quiet (in October) and there is no shop in the village (free minibus at 10.30). The staff were very friendly, providing information, and the restaurant reasonable.
Apart from it not being nearer to Dubrovnik (but regular buses or their minibus take 20 mins), it was a good place to stay. In the Autumn be aware it can get rainy, and the wind whistles down the valley. at night. There are some stairs to the accommodations.
