“Stopover Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013

We stayed here on our way to Moorea, and Bora Bora. Resort is clean and well kept. A bit Outdated. The room was very comfortable room and the staff is friendly and helpful. A bit on the expensive for the quality of the food, cocktails extremely expensive but good, very good.
We got upgraded to a ocean view room because we are Ambassador Club.
No natural features to worth mention, all man made pockets of sand, lagoons, all tastefully built and maintained.
Rented a car toured the island, nothing to rave about.
Overall a good resort for a stopover.

We stayed here on our way back to NZ after being on Moorea Island and chose it for it's proximity to the airport. We've never really stayed at what I term "an American style resort" where everything is man-made, including the little 'beaches' and apart from the view of Moorea it could have been anywhere in the pacific islands - nothing really Tahitian about it. The food is expensive and not great quality (as noticed by many reviewers), so we bought food at the Carrefor (?) supermarket about 1.5km away (turn right out of the resort gate) and ate in our room for one night. The second night we had a basic meal in the main restaurant so we could watch the (free) show by the Tahitian dancers - it was very good and made the whole stay worthwhile. We didn't use the resort much - had a swim in their infinity pool after spending a good part of the day driving around the main island in a rental car - a relatively expensive exercise with not much reward - coming from New Zealand, the main island of Tahiti has little to offer us that impresses. We were given a suite overlooking the infinity pool and out to Moorea Island - the room was very well appointed and comfortable although it would be a bit noisy if the building wing we were in was full; there's not much sound proofing from the walkway outside at the back and you can easily hear talking from the neighbouring balconies out the front. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall though, a pleasant stay. Again overpriced relative to the other parts of the world.

Room Tip: The suites are very good, away from the main pool/restaurant are quieter.

I had a short stay at this property. We got into Tahiti at about eleven at night, and left the hotel to head to Moorea at about 8 AM the following morning.

That said, this was a very nice property. Prior to arrival, staff was helpful in explaining transportation options via email. The resort was close to the airport, less than ten minutes away by car, which is helpful after a long flight at a late night arrival. Despite the proximity to the airport, we did not experience much noise during our brief stay there. The room we had was clean, and the furnishings were nice. We had a partial ocean view and could see Moorea across the bay in the morning.

Some of the room number signage is ambiguous or missing, which made finding our room a little difficult, and some of the walkways are long or have stairs, which might make things difficult if you have a lot of baggage and don't want to use a porter. But those are minor points altogether.

I would definitely consider staying here again if we were fortunate enough to return to Tahiti.

Got in at 5:30 in the morning and they let us have a day room that has just a shower in it to freshen up which was great, we also booked some tours from here at the tour desk and the lady with her little poodle was so nice. We had a room on the first floor when we checked in approx 1:30 and it was not much of a view but the room we requested on the third floor after the cruise was nice but not the best of views either. Food was average-not bad but not great either. The pool view is gorgeous and swimming in the lagoonaquarium with the fishies and feeding the fishies was fun. Breathtaking views on the rhird floor when you check in.

Room Tip: Ask for third floor center

Dear Guest:
Greetings from Tahiti and thank you for your review which will be valuable for our future visitors.
For guests not having pre-registered their room for an immediate occupancy in the case of an early arrival, transit rooms "free of charge" are at their disposal if they want to freshen up & then enjoy our facilities before regular check-in time which is 2pm.
We look forward to welcome your back in the near future.
Yours Sincerely.

We were not guests of the hotel but had heard that their "buffet and show" were fantastic. This was not the case. Perhaps the Wednesday show is better but we were there for the Friday night Tahitian show and we were disappointed at every turn.

The performers were talented but the show lacked cultural authenticity and seemed overly stylized. The supposedly "sumptous" buffet was very disappointing and we were not allowed to opt out and order off the menu. IN order to attend, we had to take the buffet. We were paying $100+ per person and the entire evening was very overpriced for what we got.

Dear Visitor:
Greetings from Intercontinental Tahiti and thank you for time and comments on our Soirée Merveilleuse dinner show.

We must admit that we are surprised as overall feedback we received on our Soirée Merveilleuse is positive not only in presentation but also in terms of choice and quality. Like many things, it is a question of appreciation and every experience can be different depending on the expectations of the people involved.

Regarding the performance itself, we also receive each week many congratulations & positive comments however in art, we are all entitled to our own opinions. Therefore, to meet our guests’ expectations we have three totally different shows per week that is Wednesday evening a traditional Marquisian show, the Friday a more modern show performed by les Grands Ballets de Tahiti and finally the Saturday always with les Grands Ballets de Tahiti but this time with an inspiration of melodies and dance of Tahiti of yesteryear.

So allow us to think it is more a matter of choosing the style of the show you like rather than the quality of the whole performance itself.

Last, by reading your comments, we understand that you were not allowed to order our “A la Carte” menu which is available on these evenings for guest who don’t want to book the buffet, and this may appear to be a misunderstanding due to the language barrier. If you want to give us more facts please contact us at intercontinental.tahiti@ihg.com as we would need information such as your booking name and date in order to check this issue.

We are sincerely sorry that you did not enjoy our Friday dinner show but we would like to thank you for expressing your views on site, which will for sure help our future travelers.

Yours faithfully.

After 7 days at the ICH Moorea we spend 3 more nights here before our flight back to Sydney.
Due to its closeness to the airport the hotel is mainly used as a transit stop after arrival and before departure but it has its own quality as a potential holiday destination. The massive swimming pool is certainly an attraction with daily water arobics classes attracting a large number of guests. The coral sanctuary situated next the pool is a very good example of how to combine the function of a hotel with the amenities offered to guests.
On arrival we were given a ground floor room which was very noisy and lacking privacy. After a short complaint we were transferred immediately to a room on the second floor in a quiet wing of the hotel which was perfectly acceptable. Again, like most ICH's the breakfast was outstanding and the dinner menu had enough variety to suit everyone. The "Fish and chips" choice was one of the best I have had in many years and the size of the pizzas is enough to feed a small family. Transport to Papeete by taxi and to the airport by shuttle bus is easy and hassle free. We found the hotel to be a pleasant stay and well worth considering as a longer stay hotel when in Tahiti

Room Tip: Avoid ground floor rooms for privacy reasons.

We had just returned from a wonderful cruise to the Marquises on the Paul Gauguin and we were not expecting that a hotel Intercontinental could be that bad. We spent there 4 unhappy nights. Our Bungalow reservation was not available, they told us that we will get the next best thing. They gave us a ground floor room with a palm tree view. After we rejected the room on the ground floor we were given a tired room on the 2sd floor again same palm trees, not like a clear sea and Moorea view like from a bungalow! Then the TV would cut out for long periods several times every day. The main restaurant is like a food hall at a shopping centre, Sunday morning hundreds of locals (nice people) come to the restaurant for Brunch, babies and prams, very chaotic, not what tourists expect. The only compliment we must say is that the general manager Jean Heliere offered us a dinner.
I have made a demand to be reimbursed the difference between the price of a Bungalow and a 2sd rate room through my travel agent, they have advised me that after 3 weeks they have not
received a reply from that famous International hotel..

Dear Guest:
Greetings from Intercontinental Tahiti!
Thank you for your review and we absolutely understand your disappointment for not having the overwater bungalow you initially booked due to the sea swell which struck the hotel on your arrival day. Indeed, we had no other option but to take the measures to ensure the safety of our guests to move your room category, guest security being a number one priority.
In reference to the reimbursement, be assured that the necessary have been made and your travel agent should revert back to you the soonest.
Though we would prefer you had a better experience at our hotel, we would like to thank you for sharing your thoughts and hope you will give us the opportunity to serve you again in the future.
Yours faithfully.
