“Good hotel before transfer”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012 via mobile

Clean, quick hotel to overnight on your way to moorea or bora bora. Standard room was clean but didnt wow us. We basically stayed for 14 hours. Pool looked nice but the hotel just needed a face life with newer decor for the prices. The hotels on the other islands are better but this is the best one on the main island.

My husband and I stayed here one night after arriving on a red eye flight from LAX. Upon arriving, we were greeted immediately by the manager and he had cold beverages waiting for us on a table decorated with colorful flowers that overlooked the pool and the beach. The view was amazing! We were upgraded to an OWB (thanks to my husband's Royal Ambassador status). The room was quite spacious and clean. From the deck, we could see all sorts of fish and the view was still amazing. The minibar was disappointing because it only contained bottled water, juices, sodas, Heineken, and the local Tahitian beer. There was no wine or champagne (considering we are on French land, I expected to see at least one bottle of French wine in the minimar). There were two large pools but no poolside towel service. It was quite crowded with families and children. The breakfast was just okay. There was a traditional Tahitian food section but there wasn't much of an explanation as to what you were about to eat. Overall, we were happy with the room and the service. The concierge was friendly and helped us with ideas and reservations for our stay in Moorea.

After Bora Bora and Moorea, we took the boat back to Tahiti, eventually found a cab (not that straightforward at the harbor over there) who took us to the resort. If you would have started your journey here, then go to Moorea and then to Bora Bora, you constantly would have experienced an upgrade. However that also comes at a price ... :) If you are going to French Polynesia then you better be prepared to pay the price and in that case skip this hotel. As we needed an overnight stay to go back to the US, for us it was Ok. It is not that expensive and their restaurant and pools are nice. As I am not really a pool person, I had some more difficulties with this resort as it doesn't really have a beach. We also had here the over the water bungalow, but without the necessary snorkeling gear it is not that easy to jump into the shallow water, where you could get hurt on the coral.
The views are spectacular here though, but one should realize Tahiti is a big island with a relatively (speaking in French Polynesian term's) big city, Moorea and Bora Bora are far more quiet. Yes it needs some upgrades, but I do not believe it can ever compete with Bora Bora.

Room Tip: Probably the best hotel on the island from what I read about the others, just have your expectations...

My husband and I came to the conclusion that this Intercontinental was a transient hotel. This one did not compare to the other two we stayed at in Moorea and Bora Bora. It all started when my husband checked in and the front desk told him he would be charged for the room when he booked the room using points. We further got a letter sent to our room later that night stating that we were to be charged, so my husband had to go to the front desk with his ipad to prove to the front desk we had used points from a confirmation email. The lobby was a little annoying to get to, as we had an over-water bungalow, we had to walk a long way and then either take the elevator or stairs three flights to get to the lobby. The other two Intercontinentals had much easier ways to get to the lobby that did not require elevators or stairs. This lobby seemed out of the way from everything. It had an older feel to it that we could see it being very popular in the 70s. The pool height was unusual as it went from either ankle deep to way over my head and as I do not know how to swim, I did not use the pool. The pools at the Intercontinental Moorea and Bora Bora Thalasso were all consistent at 4 1/2 ft. The movie selection in the room was a bit out-dated. I was utterly disappointed with the concierge at this hotel! Arrogant sums up the two men working there. Upon our arrival late Saturday afternoon, I went to the concierge to book an excursion for the next day as we were leaving on Monday. It was between 4:30-5pm and when I asked one of the guys about the full day safari he asked me rather cocky when I wanted to book and he laughed at me as he called to book it because he didn't think anyone would pick up the phone because it was late. They did and we were confirmed. When my husband asked what the difference was between the half day tour and the full he again laughed and said "one's a full day and one's a half". The following day we dealt with Andrew who was no better. We wanted to gauge how much time we had to shop in downtown Papeete so being it our first time in Tahiti, we asked Andrew how big downtown was and he too laughed and said "it is no bigger than this hotel" like we were suppose to know. I don't know where they were trained to be so snide but those two can certainly learn a lot and should consider taking lessons from the concierge at the Intercontinentals in Moorea and Bora Bora Thalasso! Lastly, my husband had booked our room until 9pm on Monday and it was about 4pm when I was in the shower when the front desk called to see if we wanted a ride to the front desk at that time to check-out! They did not have us confirmed. In short, we decided and have already suggested to people that next time we would stay there upon our arrival to get accustomed to the time and the night before we leave to ensure we do not miss our flight.

Dear Guest:
Greetings from Intercontinental Tahiti Resort !
Many thanks for taking the time to submit your comments refering to your recent stay at Intercontinental Tahiti resort.
We are sorry to learn your dissatisfaction towards our Front Desk and Concierge services.
There was obvisouly some confusion with regards to your 1st night booked using your PC points, please accept our sincere excuses for the inconvenience of having to justify your confirmed arrangments; we are glad however that the issue was eventually resolved.
We are extremelly surprised by your comments concerning our concierge team as they are actually amongst the employees been the most praised for their skills and guest attention. This can only be some kind of language misunderstanding as they certainly never intended to project such attitude towards you.
Nevertheless we obviously failed in our hospitality promise on this occasion and with such a bad start, it became obviously difficult to meet with your expectations for the rest of your stay. Be assured we will review with the staff & Department Head concerned each of your comments to avoid similar situation occurs again.
We hope you will give us the opportunity to serve you again in the future and should you decide to come back, please let us know, as we will ensure you have a most enjoyable stay.
Yours sincerely

We had booked 3 nights at the intercontinental Tahiti as a stopover before spending 6 nights on Moorea. After reading reviews I was sure it was an okay hotel, not overpriced (by FP standards) and the location seemed good. We were very happy with the room, the service, and the view from our lagoon view room. Breakfast in our room was prompt and very good. The restaurants however have something to work on for their dinners. We even ate at Le Lotus and were disappointed with the food, and Very overpriced! The two pools are great, not overcrowded, and the Lagoonarium is great for snorkeling. The check-in was slow, and after a long flight and late night arrival, they could have had more desk people. Check-out was somewhat quicker, and overall the staff were helpful and courteous, unlike what some Tripadvisors had said in some reviews I read. If I return to FP I would stay here again if I needed a stopover due to scheduling.

Room Tip: Did not stay in OW bungalows, but the view looked great. Do stay in at least a lagoonview or Panoram...

Great location, excellent surrounds. This stay was let down mainly by the service. The property was obviously spectacular at some stage, but has been let go a bit, and is need of a facelift. Getting the room serviced also proved difficult and service at breakfast was an issue. Apart from that, time spent in and around the various pools was enjoyable. The local dance show is also worth hanging around for if you are able. The resort is extraordinarily priced by world standards, so don't expect value. However, we still enjoyed it.

The rooms were clean and comfortable.
Probaly streching the 5 star rating - given the quality of other hotels in the vicinity.
We stayed in the Overwater bungalows but the old ones , the room was ok - but the water is not really what you would expect for a OW bungalow.
The view is beautifull - the food was good albeit expensive.
an Excellent Sancerre is on the Wine list as well.

Room Tip: The overwater bungalows under room 500 are the old ones and are in need of a tidy up.
