As usual too many people consider star rating and forget how much they're actually paying. Regardless of the Hotel Medano's 3 star rating the bottom line is it provides comfortable half board accommodation in one of the planets best locations for under £ 15 per person per night. And still people moan! In fairness the rooms could do with a freshen up but how much time do you spend in your room when at such a fabulous little resort in hotel built in over the beach. Great location, wonderful staff and friendly mostly German fellow guests. The food was very fresh and great value and staff were lovely. Can't wait to go back to a wonderfuly located hotel before the powers that be decide to tear it down as sadly threatened by the local government due to it's proximity to the sea.

This was our third visit to the hotel which I did rate as a basic but good hotel for the money but on my last visit in December 2008 I was disgusted. We wer given a room overlooking the narrow street on the front of the hotel which is noisey, dull and cold. When we went back to reception and told them we would like to be put into the same side of the hotel as we had been in before the receptionest went spare and told us this is what we had paid for so this is what we were getting. Well I told her no way and as she became loud so did I and after some twenty minutes she told us we could have another room but we would need to pay an extra 15 euros per day for it. To this we agreed but when we got to the room the toilet systern was in bits and could not be repaired due to them not having the parts. We were given another room which this time was not made up but as it had good views we decided to get the maid to clean and make it up for us.
The food was never the best but this time it was poorer than before with not so many choices. Resturant staff are first class and very attentive but the reception and management could not care less about you.
I wont be back as there are much better hotels for the same price in other areas BUT Medano as a town is just perfect.

We have just returned home after our 4th stay at this hotel we love it, our room had a lovely sea view looking up to the windsurfing area, with a balcony that gets the sun till late evening , the staff are extremely helpfull, the food is great and the hotel is very clean.
Roll on next year when we shall return.

Feb 8, 2009 | Trip type: Friends getaway

Booked through Alpharooms for our stay in Feb 2008 so a bit late posting this review -sorry. We thought we had booked a sea view room, but on arrival found this was not the case. We were told any rooms booked through an agency were standard roomson the street side. We paid the extra to move to a sea view room on the top floor on the second day when one became available - definitely worth it. View from window overlooked the plunge pool rather than the beach but outside the door was a huge roof terrace - as the hotel wasn't full we had this pretty much to ourselves. Rooms overlooking the street have very little view and the road is busy, although pedestrianised.

The room was quite basic, but clean and very adequate, although we had to get someone to fix the toilet which wouldn't flush and the door which would only lock if it felt like it!

We were on half board, the food wasn't anything special but was quite edible, reasonable choice of self service hot food and salads. We thought the drinks were quite pricey though. There are numerous other places to eat within easy reach and we ate out a couple of times. Reception and restaurant staff okay.

The hotel has sun decks on various levels looking out to sea and over to Montana Roja. It's worth walking along the beach and climbing up the Mont for the great views. No facilities up there though and it is a bit steep and rough.

Resort was quite windy, more so than around the corner of the island, but the town is much less touristy than the concrete jungles, which we preferred. Parking can be difficult but we managed, would be worse in high season.
