“Luxury and attention to detail”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

We recently stayed a week at Montfaucon during the middle of May. We were so impressed by the staff, especially Mo, that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this unique residence. The decor is lovely, no detail is missed from fresh roses from the garden in your room to planning your day. The rooms are spotless and the bathrooms have everything you could want for. The center stair case is breath taking and the living area, a step back in time. We were there for two days alone and felt like we were living in a castle.
Joanne arranged for our dining and wine tour at Gayda vineyard as well as recommending wonderful day trips to the surrounding area. Limoux is uniquely located that you are just an hours drive to the beaches of the Mediterranean near Narbonne and with dine at a Michelin star restaurant in Narbonne. Carcassonne is also less than a hour away and is a most interesting medieval city. Limoux is a small village but has fine eating available, all within walking distance. We were not part of a luxury tour which is available but were very happy with our independent activities. You will hate to leave.

Room Tip: The luxury suite is excellent for size, privacy and view of the river.

Montfaucon was such an amazing trip. Ever need was anticipated and service, food, day trips were pleasantly a step up from what I was expecting. The staff was so kind and genuine that I really hated to leave!

My breath was taken away the moment I passed through the doors of Montfaucon. I felt as though I had stepped back in time and I was in Limoux centuries ago. I instantly got the feeling of warm welcome when we were greeted by the staff. They were so kind, helpful, hospitable, accommodating and the most wonderful tour guides. I was there for ten days with eleven others for a plein air workshop. Penny and Mo took us to the most beautiful spots to paint and took great care of us while on our excursions. We went or to eat mostly but staying at Montfaucon to eat with the most wonderful chef Jean Franscois was always looked forward to as well as cherished. I hope to someday return to the Great Montfaucon to enjoy another wonderful experience with the greatest staff you could ever ask for!

My great choice to sign up with Montfaucon Tours to do a plein air painting workshop with Julie Houck was just the beginning of what I can only describe, upon completion of ten magical days, the ultimate experience of a lifetime!

From the moment of arrival at the exquisitely restored 13th century residence one felt welcomed, gathered up and immediately at home among friends. Furnished with stunning antiques and offering 5 star comfort throughout, Montfaucon retains many of the buildings original features around which the very sensitive renovation has taken place
.
Breakfasts were expansive, and dinner at Montfaucon was always preceded by a convivial happy hour where we became familiar with Limoux's famous Blanchette! The personally prepared meals by a Celebrity Chef were culinary works of art to die for, and the best French restaurants and wines in the region were sourced for our evenings out as a group.

Our Tour Guide extraordinaire, Penny, had her finger on the pulse from the get go and took care of our every need and want in the most exemplary and professional way. Assisted by the wonderful and capable Mo,we learned much about the region, as they escorted us to the most gorgeous locations in the Aude to paint.

I cannot say more about the dedication of the entire staff at Monfaucon to ensure our stay would be memorable for all the right reasons. I personally had a dental emergency and thanks to David and insider connections, was able to be treated expediently!
Would I return? In a heartbeat! Thank you Montfaucon..

Susan.

One of the few inns in which I have stayed in which the pictures do NOT do justice. This place is luxury through and through. En-suite bathrooms, comfortable beds, friendly staff, amazing location, excellent local knowledge and a commitment to ensuring you have the best holiday possible. Limoux is an excellent base for exploring the Langueduc and SW France and Montfaucon is the leading hotel in the area. The only downside is that the house is so comfortable and enjoyable, you may spend all your time there!

Room Tip: All the rooms are comparable.

We spent a week here and had the time of our lives. This place defines luxury with big rooms, showers big enough for a party and much eating-drinking-reading space throughout. The staff is some of the best I have experienced and the location is perfect. We spent much of our time road biking and the guides were very helpful in creating the adventures, educating the group on the surroundings and solving any problems that came up (flat tire, etc.) I think everyone should have a week at Montfaucon on their "to do" list.

Friends who had enjoyed Montfaucon a few years ago were eager to introduce us to the experience. So in mid-June our group of seven enjoyed a week of cycling, dining and visiting historic villages in the region. The setting is a magical spot on the river Aude in the town of Limoux in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France. Montfaucon is an elegant townhome built sometime between the 14th and 16th centuries and recently restored to its elegant and historical glory. The proprietor and his talented team have left nothing to chance. From the graciously appointed and capacious guest rooms and dining and living area to the custom cycling program we enjoyed, every detail received the close attention of knowledgable and friendly staff. All we had to do was relax, pedal, and enjoy. What a great vacation!
