“Small but more than adequate”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

This Center parcs is a lot smaller than the UK ones, but it has everything that you need, water park and all the sports facilites you find in the Uk ones also the added bonus of the snow dome.
We did not use the dome but had a look and it was ideal for brushing up or learning to ski.
The restaurants are all located in the main dome and the food in them was not great, plus all the menus are in dutch and german so quite hard to decifer! There is a very well stocked supermarket with fresh bread and pasteries backed on the premises.
We stayed in the VIP cottage which is clean and compact. It had a lovely view over the lake and we had many ducks cominig up to be fed. The decor was basic but clean and the bathroom was very large with its own sauna, the only thing it didnt have in there was a toilet!!
For some reason the ONLY toilet in the property is located out in the hallway where it was freezing cold and it is SO tiny very hard to move in there, plus only tiny sink with cold water so you have to come out of the loo, thru 2 doors and the kitchen to get to the bathroom to be able to wash your hands properly!! Such a shame as there is plenty of room in the bathroom for a 2nds loo, it looks like they just forgot it! Kitchen is small but well stocked.
WORD OF WARNING..There is a gas boiler located in the hall that runs all heating and hot water but there is NO carbon monoxide monitor anywhere so I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you take your own as you cant be too careful. I just presumed everything would be electric but it not.
Only the whole would recommend this place especially as only 3 hours from tunnel and you pay about third of the price in the UK and it is fine for a short break.

Room Tip: We had 4 bed VIP overlooking the lake which is very peaceful and scenic.

Just come back from a week stay at Kempervennen, Easter 2013. We had a superb stay, mainly due to the fantastic indoor ski center. We spent 3 days skiing and snowboarding there. It did take us about 20 minutes to walk across the park to the ski center, trudging along in our ski gear. Then we hired bikes and got there in 8 minutes. So beware - it can be quite a long walk as the ski center is on the perimeter of the park. We booked lessons for 2 days. The instructor was very helpful and spoke excellent English. It can get a bit busy at times, and if you want to ski when its quieter best to go in the evening. We also ate in the ski center restaurant where the staff were very helpful and friendly, and there was free wifi. Food was generous portions and quite good value, but nothing special.
The swimming pool was great but gets busy in the day. We ended up just using the pool in the evening between 7pm and 9pm when it was very much quieter. There are 3 water slides, and after a few days kids got a bit bored with them. There was also alot of rowdiness from groups of teenagers/ youths at the pool, and not alot of supervision on the slides or in the pool.
We hired bikes and they were all in good order, fairly new bikes. However no ladies mountain bikes, and also bikes were quite expensive to hire. I would recommend taking your own bikes if you can.
And finally, the cottage. We stayed in no. 901, a Premium cottage and we were a bit disappointed. We paid an extra £100 for this above the Comfort cottage, and the only extra I could see was that there was a dishwasher and the beds made up. The cottage was a bit basic and very dated decor, dreadful shower, inadequate kitchen, uncomfortable sofas, terrible carpet in the bedrooms and little storage. It also looks like a public toilet block from the outside. Beds were comfortable though, and it was very quiet at night. However we were so busy every day that we weren't in the cottage much, and it was adequate.
We would go back again, mainly for the indoor ski center, but would like to stay in a better cottage next time.

This is a great parc. We stayed in an Eden this time and it was very clean as you would expect.. the only reason I have not given this 5 stars is we were unable to choose our villa as we booked late. Because of this we had a villa without a barbecue area and so we ended up eating out a lot in the evening which gets expensive. As per other reviews - there was no oven in the villa.

We booked a last minute deal over the Easter Break. The e-check in process was great. The Eden Premium was great. It was in a nice quiet spot and a lovely holiday home. Upon entry though I would say the difference between the Eden's and the Comfort was noticeable from the outside. The Comfort's really looked like they could use a pressure wash - not a great first impression.

A trip to the pool proved to be a bit of a disappointment for the kids. After reviewing the pictures and videos on the website our 11 and 13 year old were expecting something a little more exciting - perhaps more challenging slides. That being said they were happy to spend hours there every day so it ended well.

We never ate at the restaurants outside of the pool. I read the reviews and the food didn't seem standout but the prices were high. I'm not a fan of buffet at all and I wasn't prepared to pay 15 euro for a burger at the Grille. Prices were reasonable in the poolside cafe and the food was ok. We had lunch there one day and snacks on others.

The market was well stocked and reasonably priced.

We were too late to book activities so we didn't try those out. We drove into Amsterdam one day to see the Van Gogh exhibit at the Hermitage. That was worth the day trip.

So this was our first Center Parcs visit and we will return but perhaps we'll try another parc. I can't put my finger on it but the overall vibe was missing for me at this park, yet the individual elements were fine.

But all in all the kids enjoyed their holiday - and if they're happy we're happy.

Room Tip: Go with the Eden's if possible.

We holidayed here and the kids LOVED it and we really liked it. Ideally get as big a chalet as you can afford. Then get bikes and enjoy. The food is good but not special but the experience is great. Loads of activities (a few overpriced) a fantastic swimming area (sometimes a bit over crowded). Also a great indoor snow slope. Not a huge amount nearby to enjoy off site but we did manage to get some off site culture in beautiful Breda. Eindhoven was of course raised in WW2. Highly recommend as you can get there from Calais in no time at all.

We've stayed at Center Parcs Sherwood Forest numerous times and fancied trying a different one this half term just gone. We managed to get a late availability booking in a 4 bed 'premium' cottage (number 54) and including the Tunnel and the fuel it worked out about the same as going to Sherwood, or maybe even slightly less. The accommodation was OK, maybe a bit tired in places, and if I was honest, the refurbished lodges at Sherwood were probably more inviting, but I am sure that there are refurbished ones on the De Kempervennen site that were just as good as the ones in England.

Worth noting that there was no oven, but there is a 4 burner hob, a microwave and a toaster. We eat at the pizza restaurant on the first night and the bill was quite expensive, but could probably have done it a bit cheaper without the wine. Also eat at the burger bar by Aqua Mundo one night, and that was a lot cheaper, but quite basic.

My girls (9 and 11) did the climbing wall one day and enjoyed it, and the elder one did the high ropes course and also loved it (sadly the younger one couldn't meet the height criteria). We all did the zip wire over the lake, which was very exciting, but very cold! I felt that the activities were cheaper than at home.

We took our bikes and ventured out of the development for two days and cycled through the local nature reserve and into Borkel, where we enjoyed fantastic hot chocolates and cappuccinos at 'Eetcafe' (highly recommend it).

Of course, we did the swimming thing every day at the Aqua Mundo. There weren't as many slides as there are at Sherwood, but the queue's were less for the two slides that were there, I guess because I don't think it was half term in Holland.

All the staff were very friendly and helpful.

We really enjoyed our four day stay at this Center Parcs and will be back again.

Room Tip: Maybe ask if the lodge has been refurbished recently.
