These were the words that were quoted to me by the hotel rep who collected us from the port when describing this place. He was almost spot on. I would also add that if you aren’t Australian and (if male) you are unable to do one-handed press-ups you are in the minority.
Not that any of this is a negative!
If you know what to expect, which is rowdiness, booziness and not a hint of Greek authenticity then you will have a most wonderful, yet headache-filled time. If you are looking for solitude, culture and food that isn’t pizza you are waaaaay off. After a week exploring athens and some of the quiter islands we were looking for the former (I’m about 50% embarrassed to admit it), and loved every minute of it!
We stayed in the village hotel which is absolutely the way to go. I’m sure there is a bit of a price-hike between this and the bungalows but I think the private bathroom, garden and the slightly more-upmarket restaurant, beach beds and pool area really make up for this. You still have access to the booze and bottoms filled beach club next door, but you can get away from it all when you’ve had enough of grinding to Robin Thicke on repeat.
