“All you could ask for!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2012 via mobile

Came here with 5 mates and were put in 2 rooms, one triple and one double! The staff, from the owners to the cleaner were all exceptional! Very friendly, very humorous and always helpful. The location is ideal! The beach in front is where more "European" holiday makers spend there time, so it is much more pleasant than other beaches in Ios. The rooms were comfortable, spacious and best of all, clean! Would recommend this hotel to anyone considering traveling to Ios as you are located close to all the bars and parties with the luxury of escaping to your private beach front hotel! Very happy! :)

Just stayed for a week at Mare Monte with my girlfriend. Clean, peaceful and superbly located hotel which is ideal for a Greek island getaway, providing the sort of basic, relaxed environment which Greece is so good at. As you arrive at Ios port you can see the bay of Gialos beach in front of you to your left and it's a short walk round the bay to Mare Monte. The owner of the hotel will probably meet you at the port and put your luggage on the back of her tricycle.
The photos on this site are accurate , with the hotel being right on the beach. Gialos is a lovely, peaceful not-too-crowded, gently sloping sandy beach and excellent for swimming in the calm sea. On one side of the hotel is a great little Greek snack-bar/taverna (omelettes strongly recommended for breakfast by the way) who let you use sunbeds and umbrellas for free. On the other side is a more modern beach bar, Yialou, and a mini-market. If you want an easy day everything you could want is within 20 yards ! For slightly more effort you can walk the 200 yards round to the port area where there are some excellent restaurants , a bakery and other shops. The main village of Ios is a 10 minute uphill wlak up some steps from the port(or a short bus ride if you prefer) . The nightclubs and bars for which Ios has a reputation are all up in the village, which makes Gialos beach a great option for peace and quiet. There are buses and boat trips from the port which enable you to visit other parts of the island.
The hotel itself was absolutely fine. We were lucky as we got the room at the front of the hotel with the balcony overlooking the flower-covered archway above the path down to the beach (the room shown in the professional photographs). As stated facilities were clean and basic, and included air-con, kettle and hairdryer. Housekeeping was daily and very good. The owners not the friendliest people in the world but no problem either and we were left to get on with our holiday in peace. The pool is good if you fancy a change from the sea across the road. All round good experience.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the beach if possible.

Had a great stay at the Mare Monte Hotel. The staff were very friendly and welcoming from the moment we walked in. Our room was spacious and clean with a fridge, kettle and hairdryer (I love when you get these basic ammenities included!). The pool area is great and the beach is right at the front door. It is positioned in a good spot in Ios.. outside of the main village so you don't have to walk up the steephill with your luggage to get to the hotel. Would definately recommend to any traveller with a budget and wanting to stay in a lovely quiet location in Ios (but not too far from the action of bars & clubs)

I travelled to Greece June 2012, the weather was fantastic although some days were very windy. Mare Monte was perfectly located for me and I would stay there again. I am 50 years old so staying up in the village where the young people party was not for me. Where you get off the ferry is the Port and it has about 15 small hotels and restaurants, and the bakery is absolutely amazing. I definitely lucked out on a room overlooking the pool for 20 euros a night. I'm sure it is more in peak season - write to the hotel directly. Breakfast is 5 euros, but I tended to venture out somewhere else and only had breakfast (pastries, coffee & juice) at the hotel a few times.

The twin room I was in was very clean as housekeeping came every day around 10am. Bedding was changed every 2 days and the towels every day. I must say I had a few mosquito bites, but I believe that's every where in Greece, so the second day I purchased a fuser for my room and then tried to keep the windows and doors closed from late in the afternoon. Others didn't have this problem, as I saw many rooms with their doors open all day and evening. The bath room was small, however you're not in it much so it was good enough for me. You have to be aware that hot showers are based on timing, probably due to the laundry service or just usage at a particular time of day. That may change as the summer heats up, but I found early morning and after 6pm I could have a nice hot shower.

The owner Niki, does know English and I am sure other languages as well, since she has lived on Ios all her life. She is a lot of fun, but very busy keeping her hotel full by meeting the ferries at the Port every day, 4 times a day. She is quirki but I liked that about her. When I was there, her and her sister were doing all the work and being my age+, I was quite impressed. She has an adorable little Yorkshire terrier, it's her baby and doesn't bark at night, just a few times during the day when someone comes in to reception, but you'll find the dog is really cute and friendly!

The hotel is just like it's pictures, right off the beach and about a 5 minute walk to the Port. At the Port you can eat in the outside restaurants, have lovely Greek meal and watch the sun go down. For me, it was safe and exactly what I wanted!

While in the Port checkout a Shop that is opposite the bus station by the round-about (the buses take you up to the village and to other beaches). It's called Agora Center; they sell souvenirs, sunglasses, towels, postcards and nice jewellery. Everything is reasonably priced but it is the quality that impressed me. Stop by to purchase something and tell them Serena from Canada says hello - they'll get a kick out that. They are very friendly and honest, and definitely the best ambassadors for the island, they won't steer you wrong with directions or where to visit!

We stayed at this hotel at the end of May 2008.

At the time of our stay the owner was in the process of opening the hotel for summer so the pool wasn't operational (still full of sludge) and the balconies were very dusty otherwise it was fine. Our room overlooked vacant land, so no views. Bathroom was fairly basic and we had a few problems with the hot water but it was soon fixed.

The owner was very friendly and helpful and helped us to and from the port with our luggage.

The hotel is a short walk to the port, restaurants etc.
