Had an unfortunate experience at this hotel and transferred a day later.
Upon arrival we were left standing around for ages before someone came to collect our bags - a security guard, not a bellboy (he happened along later). Our room was in terrible condition. Our safe didn't work (they had to replace the whole unit), mini-bar was empty, air conditioning and television wasn't working, the water from the shower and taps was SALT water (never in my life have I stayed in a hotel - in Sri Lanka or elsewhere - where there's salt water pouring out of the shower head and taps) The door to the bathroom didn't fit the frame and the general state of the room was disappointing and not up to par.
The first meal I had here gave me food poisoning - a meal which I'd already paid for yet the hotel attempted to CHARGE me for anyway! Insane! Their attempts to make up for this were unsatisfactory to say the least. A member of reception asked me if I'd like tea or coffee sent to my room, to which I politely declined and asked for some bottled water - which NEVER arrived. I had to speak to the guest relations manager to finally have some delivered to my room. The attitude of the staff was terrible. One member even went so far as to make remarks about my friend's weight. Unacceptable.
The noise at night was tantamount to a university dorms experience - especially the bad karaoke renditions of Robbie William's 'ANGELS' blasting throughout the hotel. Upon speaking with the guest relations manager the next day about all the hiccups we'd encountered we were then told that our booking wasn't even confirmed! Despite the fact that we'd booked this through our tour company (who were fantastic - PL TOURS) MONTHS in advance. Final straw. We transferred the next day and didn't look back.
Its a great shame. The hotel has a lovely setting and amazing potential. Shame about the attitude of management and staff. Even if all of the above hadn't happened, my friend found the food bland and mediocre. The only saving grace of this entire experience was the lovely little Calipso and Folk group called Mela that played for us in the evening.
I hope that our experience was a one-off for this hotel, as it seems to have some glowing reviews as well. I won't be visiting again and sadly given the ridiculous amount of inconvenience and the unsatisfactory manner in which it was/wasn't handled, I cannot recommend it.
