“perfect holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

this is our 4th visit to this hotel and it gets better each time, the staff can not do enough for you from gardeners to management,
We started our hoilday with a 5 day tour Adams Peak (shattering), Aragum Bay, safari, whale watching in Marissa (2nd favourite place) really enjoyed this but couldnt wait to get to the Eden.
We usually stop in room 107 or 108 which are ground floor but stayed in the eden rooms on the second floor this time ( due to not realising cricket was in sri lanka really should have known this )the room was lovely but really missed lasantha our usual room boy, our room looked like a florist by the end of the holiday got flowers from the hotel, off the beach boys and off lasantha and the pool boys.
The food in the hotel is amazing and a visit to the temptations is a must Rowan cant do enough for you, lunch at the pool bar is also very good and reasonably priced and Ranil and the rest off the staff really look after you.
The pool staff get used to were you like to sunbathe and have your beds ready as soon as they see you walking towards them.
The beach boys do approach you as soon as you walk on the beach but a pleasant no thank you and they leave you alone, but anyone wanting to book a trip i would certainly recommend Baxi or Manu. Anyone wanting to eat out theres loads of places locally within walking distance or by tuk tuk, the blue lagoon on the beach is very good.
I know the hotel is closing for 2 months for refurbishment and cant wait to see it when its complete, we will certainly be back again
Overall another perfect holiday and the hotel and staff are a credit to the management, thanks again and see you soon

First time visit to Sri Lanka with my daughter (20's) and we stayed at the hotel for 8 nights. We had a room overlooking the bar area and pool - the room was nice (but the hotel is now under renovation so no point in making detailed comments) but the ONLY disappointment is that you can not see the sea (hence my rating is not "excellent" (and i wasn't informed by the travel agent even though this is one of my "must haves"). On checking in the cost of upgrading was £500 + and I chose not to bother....
The Hotel Team are great, friendly, polite, helpful and always smiling.
Food is fantastic - regardless of your tastes, there is something for everyone.
The beach is a very clean red flag beach, but that doesn't stop you going in (although some mornings the current was strong - so be sensible and wait until the afternoon when its just fab in the waves).
You do get approached on the beach, but not in a bad way... just say "no thankyou" and that's it! To the left on the beach of the hotel where the locals sit - ask for Manu (short hair)... he arranged our trips 1) the Elephant Sanctuary - AMAZING - really is a must. Note- the minibus did not have seat belts so I moved to the front seat as the driving is crazy. 2) Spice Garden - Had a great massage and bought products that sound / feel amazing but warning - they are expensive. (One thing Ii bought hair removing cream that is similar to Veet but where hair wont grow back after a few months - rubbish.) 3) Temple in Manu's Tuk Tuk 4) River boat tour.

Would I return - Yes, but not to the hotel as no view of the sea in a standard room even though I can not fault it for ANYTHING.

Room Tip: Had a room overlooking the pool, but not view of the sea unless you upgrade £500+ for a week to a ro...

My husband and I spent a lovely relaxing week in Sri Lanka at the Eden Resort in February. The hotel was excellent, food for all tastes and at all times. All staff were very friendly and helpful particularly Oshadi who made sure everything was up to standard and that our stay was made as perfect as possible. We took a two day trip out to see several different aspects of Sri Lanka and were not disappointed. Our driver was excellent and made our trip very interesting. We would definately visit Sri Lanka again and hopefully enjoy a further stay at the refurbished Eden Resort.

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking the pool bar but had no problem from noise.

We stayed 4 nights in this hotel after a one week visit over Sri Lanka. The hotel will be renovated as of end of April and be closed for two months. The food is excellent, the personnel very friendly (one night we had a candlelight dinner on the terrace of one of the penthouses with the very friendly service of Anton De Hoedt).
Sunbeds in a nice garden were provided by very friendly personnel.

We stayed there 5 days after a round-trip for some relaxing days. Overall we were satisfied.

The swimming pool was nice - but it was always closed in the morning till almost noon for cleaning. If you come late, some people couldn't get a sunbed and had to lie in the grass. The beach was nice - of course you get approached by people wanting to sell something, but it wasn't so much annoying.

At first I got a room facing the backside with a little terrace that I had to share with my neighbours and facing a backside wall like a parking garage - people moving up the stairs could look into my room, so I had to keep the shades closed. After complaining to the manager, I could get another room the next day, which was a lot nicer facing the pool. Balcony was nice. Bathroom was outdated, but ok. Rooms were clean. I would recommend writing an email to the hotel, that you want a pool-view room. At my travel agency there wasn't an option to select that.

Regarding the food - the buffet offered a lot of choices, which the average tourist not caring so much about healthy food choices, will be very happy. I am vegan, which was a bit challenging. Usually Asia is paradise for Vegetarians/Vegans. I asked for steamd soy milk - and I never got it right in 5 days. Once I got normal cow milk, after one sip, I noticed, but had to suffer an allergic reaction. 2 times I got cold one. Room-Service was prompt and very friendly. For early check-out we were promised a packed breakfast - I specified to 3 people, what vegan means - and upon checking at the airport I found a bread with butter, an egg, sausage and jam - so zero to eat.

The service was very good and everybody was really friendly.

Out of 14 days in Sri Lanka, it was just not raining on 2 days in January, where there shouldn't be rain at all. But this is not fault of hotel.

Room Tip: Specify at booking that you want pool view - there are also rooms to the backside of the hotel - I g...

We've just come back from 4 days at the Eden Resort after a busy week travelling through India. We wanted some rest and relaxation and got just that. The hotel is a little dated but being refurbished soon and everywhere was spotless. A good selection of food and really great value for money. I don't know why some people don't like the place, we will definitely be going back . The staff were excellent. Rohana is a superstar as is Lal and the chef Indigo is amazing. His food in the Signature restaurant was just the best. Special mention also to Yohana for the room - thanks. The Sri Lankan people are lovely. Paul & Jayne
