“Basic hotel in a great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

The Areti hotel is on the seafront in Aegina town, and is just a short walk from the port. It is very well located for swimming - just 100 metres away - and there are loads of tavernas immediately opposite which have good food at reasonable/cheap prices, and views are fantastic. If you haven't got a car, the bus station is just a few metres away. All in all, you couldn't ask for a better location. The hotel itself however is very basic - it has no bar, provides no breakfast, has no seats in the lobby area, has unreliable Wi-Fi (the router is on the ground floor - we were on the first floor - if you're above that, you'll probably not connect at all) and the rooms are very tired, with minimal old and antiquated furniture, very chipped mosaic floors, and minimum décor. The bathrooms are dreadful - pokey places, where having a shower soaks the entire room, as there is no walled shower cubicle so the water goes everywhere, and a tiny sink so even splashing water on your face goes onto the floor. It's clean enough, and has a lift (a lot of the hotels don't) but it is a shame that it's not upgraded to reflect it's superb location. It only cost 40 euros a night, which is pretty much the same as other hotels in the area, which are of a similar standard. There are better hotels of a similar price, which are set further back from the seafront, but they lack views and proximity to the town's resources , which are all within 100 metres or so from the seafront. There are much better quality hotels in Agia Marina, about 13 kilometres away, but Agia Marina is a dreadful place - a deathly fairly newly built tourist trap which looks awful as a town/village, and it could do with beautification employing a fleet of bulldozers and complete reconstruction.
We chose the Areti hotel as the best of a bad bunch, because of its convenient location. If you don't mind a very basic hotel, stay there, but don't expect much.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2012

We stayed in Aegina Town for 2 nights and the Areti Hotel was our second choice as my confirmation for the original choice of hotel did not come through on my phone in time. The Areti Hotel is a five minute walk from the Harbour and is opposite a row of promenade restaurants that lead onto the beach.

We went into the reception and we were greeted by the manager who offered us a twin room for a good price, the sea view room was on the first floor and fairly basic but was quite clean with towels on the beds, small TV with a handful of terrestrial channels, wardrobe with extra pillows and blankets. The Aircon was a bonus and was extremely effective with temperatures in the high 20’s.

The room had a small balcony with a table and two chairs and there was a lovely view of the surrounding area. The bathroom was small but the water was hot but took a while to heat up. Soap was provided.

WIFI was available and on the whole was quite fast with the occasional dip. A good hotel if a bit Spartan but the manager was friendly and helpful and it’s location is ideal for the town and harbour.
