After having enjoyed a drink in one of the roaring bars on the harbor promenade downtown Chios we agreed to try out a “quiet” restaurant for dinner. We walked uphill for about 25 Minutes and arrived at the Taverna Hotzas, located in a small street. We were really surprised by this nice garden restaurant. In a spacious court with lots of big trees and blooming bushes the tables are set with comfortable distance. The splendid environment entrapped us (four hungry tourists) to order more specialties of the Greek kitchen than would have been sensible! The list of starters seemed to be endless (resulting in an overflow of a variety of plates) and encouraged by the friendly service we still wanted in addition to savor a few main meat dishes. All of them, salads, vegetables and meat, were very delicious and worthwhile the price ranging from 5 to 10 Euros per item. I don’t remember the plenty of white wine we needed to bring the various creations to perfection! On top, home-made desserts were served for free in the end. No wonder the evening dinner lasted into the night. Late in the evening the restaurant was filled with local people. In conclusion, we did the right choice to come here and we recommend a visit to Hotzas to everybody looking for a cozy garden tavern.
