“Make up Your Own Mind”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

We booked our Holiday with Thomson, and we did wonder if we would be dissopointed, but we were not. Yes the walk from the main road if you are not expecting it, could be off putting, but seeing that other people have mentioned this previously we knew anyway, Perhaps the Rep at the airport could mention this, We did not find the road dirty in anyway, the waste bins are located there but these were emptied daily and this is normal in Spain. We arrived at 11.00am at the hotel and were greeted with a glass of Cava, yes our rooms were not ready but they said we could wait on the terrace or look around the resort and took our phone number and they would ring us when our room was available, we left our luggage in a secure room and were given tickets to retrieve them. We were called within the hour to say our room was available, This was a side facing room 1231, but we still had a sea view and was exactly llke the ones on the photos that are on the website and tripadvisor, It was clean, fresh looking with the fittings and paintwork looking pristine and this was the end of the season, yes the bathroom is openplan but the toilet has a door and this is a "couples hotel" you cant see into the bathroom from the room and most British bathrooms have toilets in them, so why are people complaining?
We are given a sheet at reception with information on and this included the charges for the rooms safe which worked out at 2.40euros per day and a 10euro deposit on the key, which they returned when we handed the key back at the end of the holiday, hardly mega bucks, you can also have free towels to use at pool a one off returnable deposit is required on these, but you can take your own towels if you want! One of coments we seen was that there were no draw space in the rooms, but there are shelves in the wardrobe? We also had a fridge and kettle with Tea and Coffee sachets and a bottle of water was left everyday. The restaurant is excellent and yes it is buffet style and a huge variety of food is available at both breakfast and dinner more than could be offered if they had a menu to choose from, this gives you the chance to try food that perhaps you would not usually have if you dont like it the staff would take it away and you could then have something else, but i must say nothing we had was not to our liking food was changed at the buffet regularly and I also seen food being tested to make sure it was up to temperature. You also can have one night per week in the A la Carte resturant, but the food in the other one was so good we did not bother, the nights were sometimes themed but there was aslo meat and fish availalbe to be cooked fresh in front of you and you could have as much as you wanted. The staff in the restaurant were excellent advising on wine and were always willing when asked for anything, We cant remember everyone names to thank them personally but everyone smiled even when they seemed very busy, and a Good Morning or Evening does not go amiss We find, if you are nice to people they will be nice to you! The entertainment in the evening was for the most part very good with at least 4 acts being outstanding, if it isn't your cup of tea there is a upstairs bar that tends to be quiter and people came and went between the two. The day time entertainment was quizzes and bingo but don't worry nobody is made to feel they have to take part, they also had a sangria making display and a free paella and sangria lunch, Drinks and fruit were brought around during the morning if you sat out on the terrace, this was availalble to all guests. Our last night was made even more special as when we returned to our room, we were greeted with strawberries, chocolates and a bottle of Cava and The customer service we received when we stayed at this hotel is excellent, perhaps previous comments have been taken on board by mangement? we would have no hesitation about returning, yes the area is a little run down, but for 1.50 euros you can get to Palma, Magaluff and Palma Nova and the three places we lunched at near the hotel were excellent, especially the Cafe Bar Sa Cala, lovely views from the garden area also i cant remember the name but it has a Smurf on the sign and if you like a kebab the Istanbul restaurant (turn right at the end of the road was very good lots of locals eating there) if there is one little niggle the beds were very hard, but it wasn't a put me off

My sister and I spent one week at the Luabay Marivent and it was pleasant enough.
Positives: We found the service to be very good, in reception, in the restaurant and the room service. The rooms are simple but modern (the lack of privacy in the bathroom area may bother some). The area was relatively quiet but we were there in the low season - Oct 13-20. We had 'limited sea view' but on the 4th floor this view was wonderful. The food at the buffet kept a high standard and table cloth clad tables keep the sound level down.
The downsides; yes the transfer means a short walk (all problems are relative, we did not find this to be too difficult but then we are in our 30s and travel light), when we arrived our room smelled like mould. This subsided after a couple of days so perhaps the room just hadn't been used. Still. The Spa and gym have the same smell. Also, the beds are pretty hard. The pool is positively freezing and I can imagine that in high season the loungers are fought over.
This is a child free hotel which in itself means it is mellow, so if it peace and quiet you are after this could be the place for you. We enjoyed it.

Room Tip: If you have limited sea view the rooms facing west give you evening sun on the balcony.

On arrival we were dumped at the top of the street and told to walk round the corner and down the road! We had to make the trek in reverse when we left, and waited 45 mins at the side of the street for the airport pick up.
Room wasn't ready and we had to wait for 2 hours. When we got it the room was very nice and had the sea view that we had paid for. Unfortunately it also has the run down tenement blocks of flats in view too. The area outside the hotel is depressing and run down, few bars, shops or restaurants open. Didn't feel drawn to eat or drink in any of them, so paid a fortune for the upgrade to all inclusive, which I couldn't have at the time of booking, but was no problem once there. Pool is very small and sun beds limited, although. Always got one when we wanted to. Lots of rules in this hotel and it felt a bit like being at school at times. Most of the crockery was chipped, and every time we asked about something there was n extra cost involved. I felt like I was being taken to the cleaners. I said this to the rep Alex, but he just fobbed me off. He promised to get me access to wi- fi after I had paid 30 euros for it and then discovered it was only for one device - he gave me a ticket at 4:30 the day before we we due to leave and it didn't work anyway.
Some staff members were very nice, but some need to do a customer care course, as we felt like we were in the way. Especially the night we were sitting outside and the doors to the bar were closed and the lights turned off with no warning at 11:45.
It was a poor example of the quality I expect from a Thomson hotel/holiday. It is not really in Palma, it is a bus or taxi ride away. If you do Gold, then don't expect Couples to be any where near the same standard.

Room Tip: Rooms in the main block are nice

First impressions are not good as you need to walk with all your luggage some 100+ metres from where the coach stops on the main road through a supposedly pedestrianised area to the hotel. The hotel has recently been renovated and refurbished, but still has a slightly unfinished look and feel to it. The rooms are bright, spacious and comfortable if a little sparse lacking some basic storage, indoor seating and occasional table. The bed was big and very comfortable. The open plan bathroom takes a bit of getting used to especially the frosted glass toilet enclosure, but the walk in shower was excellent. The AC was efficient and quiet. Generally reasonably quiet and a good sea view. Very close to a public beach.

In our part of the building they had one small rickety old lift that had not been renovated and had a rather unpleasant odour.

The swimming pool area was very small and crowded, and completely lacked any changing and toilet facilities, the nearest toilets being in the hotel lobby next to reception – these have not been renovated.

The food was of an acceptable standard in general, though at breakfast the scrambled egg and bacon were tepid. Also the self service implements were left in such a way that they got far too hot to handle – napkins were available, but had often run out and not been replenished. Service was a little erratic, but in general the staff were cheerful, friendly and helpful.

The resort in which the hotel is located is rather scruffy and run down though there are plans to regenerate the area, but given the financial problems that Spain has, it may be some time before things improve. This is not a 4* hotel yet.

We arrived at the hotel on 9th. October to be greeted with a glass of Cava, most enjoyable. The people at the Reception Desk were most helpful, spoke English and made us feel welcome.
We had a spacious room on the first floor which also had an additional bed (not required by us) there were two separate wardrobes which gave us ample room for clothes. Although there was no sea view we did not ask for a change as we were only in the room at night.
Contrary to opinions on previous reviews , we found the food to be excellent and as it is a Buffet Meal, then of course the appearance would be that of a Canteen. The A la Carte restaurant is available to all by booking 24 hours before hand.
The sunbed saga had been dealt with by the time we arrived as Alex, our Thomson Rep. (God Bless him) told us we could not under any circumstances "book a sun lounger". Also as it was later in the season, the hotel was not fully booked therefore the sunbeds were not all taken.

It is true that the resort surrounding the hotel is run down, most of the shops have closed down, some derelect, but the cleanliness at the hotel is up to standard with entertainment at lunch time and the evening. Some good acts and some mediocre, neverthe less, the entertainment hostesses and "Jimmy" were always in sparkling form and good fun to be with. In fact the hotel has a very young feel to it as all the waitresses are young and efficient. (Yes I would second the comment Rosemary made about Mercedes, she was terrific)
The piped music throughout the hotel was pretty much from the 1940's to 1950's which we enjoyed as that was our era.
We had a lovely holiday and we would go back again. And we wouild like to wish Alex All the Best for his next trip in Egypt

Room Tip: Corner suites are large and sunny

We arrived back from the Marivent Oct 13th. We booked a two week holiday. A short walk from the transfer bus to the hotel was no bother at all!!! Getting into Palma, no problem, 1,50 Euro Bus # 3 and 15 min later you are in the capital of the island. The cathedal is a must. 6 Euro's entrance fee will not break the bank and is well worth it. On arrival nice welcome and a glass of Cava. We had a room on the 5th floor with limited seaview. Both room and view were amazing. Housekeeping the best I have ever expierienced;o) We booked HB and the breakfast had everything to offer, however the dinner was not as good. After filling two questionaires, I had both times mentioned that the food should be prepared with more passion, maybe it will change for the new season. If you are not into Mexican food like us, skip it and venture out. Our last evening was an oriental theme, the duck, spring rolls and fresh made Sushi were fantastic. Also the restaurant gave the impression of a canteen, this was mentioned by many guests, and hopefully taken into consideration to give the place more atmosphere. I have to mention two great waitresses - Susi & Mercedes were amazing, happy, friendly, attentive and hard working. As for the outdoor space, it is very cramped and if you do not reserve a sun lounger by 8.30am, then you are left to fend for yourself, use the ajoining beach and pay for two sunloungers and shade 15 Euro per day. We found a small secluded bay and went there every day. As for the evening entertainment, I have to point out that there are 3 Luabay hotels close to each other - Marivent, Palma & Costa and all three hotels have live entertainment until midnight. Be aware that you will be repeatedly subdubed to listen to Abba, Sinatra, Beatles, Elvis. Golden oldies for two weeks did get to us.
We made the best of our holiday and hope that our comments will change some things for the next season. On that note I would like to say that the two day trips we booked with Thomson were amazing: The Orange Blossom and the North Trio. Thanks to both of the guides making these days fantastic!!! Also last but not least Alex the Thomson rep has done a great job and I would like to wish him all the best for his next assignment in Egypt!!!

Room Tip: You do not have to book a superior, you do get nice seaviews when booking a room with limited seavie...

The location at the front of the Hotel overlooking the sea is superb, however on arrival at the end of the street it is apparent that the area is dirty & ran down. In general the staff were very good & of course dear Alex, there were some that should find work elsewhere as not suited to working with public. The rooms are comfortable but not to a 4* standard, the daily standard of cleaning varied from poor to reaonable. The FOOD: breakfast was ok - the bacon swam in oil either undercooked (nearly raw) or burnt. 'DINNER' basic and bland very poor quality same old each evening. The chef should be sent on his way. AND of course the battle of the sunbeds the pool area is far too small for the size of the Hotel. The early bird catches the sunbed, however these were uncomfortable no matresses & were dirty. BE WARNED: a mugging did take place, Alex & some staff were outstanding in their support. (The Manager couldn't be bothered) Having looked at other comments on here, where it is stated those comments would be passed to the appropriate departments, no notice or action has been taken. This could still become a very good 4* Hotel under experienced management & a good quality Chef.
