“Birthday trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2014

We came here especially to celebrate a 50th Birthday. We arrived late in the evening and initially were very disappointed with our room. It had clearly just been decorated and there was an overwhelming smell of gloss paint, and the second room was locked and the staff had problems locating the key. Then when we ran the Jacuzzi bath sand and grit spewed from the holes. Not what you want when you have been travelling all day. However the staff are faultlessly kind and helpful and bent over backwards to help. Next day we moved to a room on a floor above and the rest of the holiday was a dream, one of our best ever. We liked the location away from any noise, hussle and bustle, with the little harbour to look out on from the terrace. Food was fine, but the nearby tavernas are excellent too, so there is plenty of choice. Lovely black sand beach with an amazing backdrop of volcanic rock like a lunar landscape. Spa was fantastic and beautifully done inside. Only slight problem is a lack of public transport with a rather unreliable bus service, and taxis are expensive, so you have to work out your trips carefully to coincide with the bus leaving at 10.30am (or considerably later!!!). However the island is amazing, with stunning views from Fira and Oia and the Monastery. The staff are lovely,we became very friendly especially with the Manager Alexandro. All very kind, helpful and chatty. All in all we had a fantastic holiday and will definitely return.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the harbour and restaurant side may be slightly noisier than the ones round the si...

We had a lovely, relaxing stay at the Notos. It is a very good hotel indeed.Transfers were included for free so going to and leaving the hotel (arriving from the airport and leaving for the port to catch a ferry) was no trouble at all. George was extremely helpful and made us feel like friends during all the stay. Overall, a lot of improvements have happened since previous negative reviews, and we disagree with the very poor reviews: our room was lovely, in the white, simple fresh style of Greece, with a great, spacious bathroom (no bath but a very nice walk-in shower). The bed was extremely comfy and we slept like babies, enjoying hearing the sea -by the way, we heard all the mattresses had been changed in all rooms, so the complaints re beds are no longer up to date. The wifi works perfectly. The staff did their best to help, were pleasant and polite, even if some of them struggle a bit with their English, so you have to be a bit understanding of it. And George is at hand to sort you out. Lovely pool, nice terrace restaurant, very decent breakfast, nice food and at least 3 tavernas nearby to change scenery if you want something different - frankly, we have nothing to complaint about and strongly recommend this hotel if you want to stay away from the crowds of tourists. The almost deserted, wild volcanic beach just next to the hotel - ( i.e. not the one that is signposted on the other side of the harbour!) is just gorgeous! We haven't had time to try the spa but it looked great and we wish we had allowed some time to book some treatment.

Room Tip: Ask for a front room for great harbour view.

My husband and I stayed at the Notos Therm and Spa in May 2014. The hotel itself was quiet but the harbour/fishing port was busy all day and could be quite noisy which it overlooked. For a "luxury" hotel it was a disappointment. The restaurant was on the terrace, as it was still a bit on the cool side there was no where to eat inside and it did have days were it was very windy. The food was not up to standard, then menu's were A4 sheets stapled together, not in nice folders, the breakfast got better as the holiday progressed but was disappointing that they had tinned fruit on the breakfast table rather than more fresh food ie melon, peaches etc, The bedroom that we had was all white it would've been nice for a picture on the wall. We did not know what facilities the hotel offered ie beach towels, laundry service the price of the mini bar etc as there was no information in the hotel room. The staff though were lovely and nothing was too much trouble for them, the only thing that I would say about the staff is that polo shirts and jeans are not what I would expect staff to wear in this type of hotel, it seemed that only the cleaners and the spa ladies had a uniform. On saying all this though the hotel looked as though there was ongoing work on it. On saying all this the holiday was lovely, I would recommend the hotel but not as a luxury 4 star. The spa treatments were excellent and were included in the price of the holiday that we booked through Olympic.

If you are coming here for a beach hotel or a busy town like Oia or Fira then you are mistaken. However it is secluded and is by a little working port. If you just want to relax in the hotel and perhaps 2 or three other restaurants around you then this is the place. I went 2 years and having been meaning to write this The hotel had just opened, staff were inexperienced but their heart was in the right place and wanted to learn. Finally the spa was probably too expensive for our likes but looked lovely. What won was the food and the mojitos. I would recommend it for it's serenity and its simplicity. If you go there then make sure your expectations are managed beforehand and you will have a great time.

Room Tip: Ideally rooms facing frontal onto the sea are better....but not really a bad choice either way to be...

A peacefull and quiet hotel in the harbor, watch the boats come in while u float around in the pool. Super friendly and helpfull staff. Good food, and a spa where u can find caring therapists and a cool pool when the sun's too warm

Don't be fooled, as we were, into believing this is a luxury hotel - it is not. The suites are small and bare, the private terraces are public porches, the service is largely non-existent. The Spa in the cave is quite nice but we were never shown around and I failed to find a member of staff. When we did want to use it (as it was indoors) it was closed (closing at 7pm). We booked this week in March and paid for it in full believing we were getting 25% off. It was our wedding anniversary treat so we had luxurious expectations and the holiday was certainly billed as delivering that - it did not.

In our Junior Suite, which sounds very grand - there was no bath and the little shower had mould growing up the walls and was luke warm. The towels looked like they had been laundered 100 times and were grey. The TV was tiny and old and had no satellite so it was redundant. The mini bar was a domestic fridge that made a dreadful noise all night. The WiFi was hopelessly slow.

The hotel's location is also poor (don't be fooled into thinking that the beautiful architecture (as depicted) is nearby - it is not). Instead the hotel is on the edge of a harbour (rather than a picturesque marina) and a very dirty beach. At breakfast one can witness the latest undercover arrests and similar goings on. The neighbouring restaurant is an absolute rip-off so avoid it or make sure you know the cost of things before they offer you the "catch of the day" - probably Dorada but billed as Red Snapper at 65Euro! There is nothing else in the area.

We were so disheartened we hired a car (direct and not through the hotel as they quoted double) and found alternative accommodation in order to avoid a thoroughly miserable week. We found another hotel which is fabulous and costs the same as this hole. At Notos Therme (which we renamed Notos Careous) the owners response to our checking out early was to inform us that we would still have to pay for the whole week (which we had already done via Inspired Luxury Escapes & Secret Escapes), they were not concerned that we were cutting our stay short by 6 nights (perhaps its a regular occurrence!)!

My feeling is that this hotel has seen much better days and the new management don't seem to have a clue about service and generating that "luxury" feel. I was amazed that it is a member of Small Luxury Hotels and I have reported our visit to them as I am sure it would not now meet their standards. I am writing this in the hope that I can help others avoid the disappointment that we experienced. Santorini is a most stunning destination and 90% of the accommodation on the island, we later found, was excellent. I would recommend staying in Firastefani - very well located, lots of restaurants, views of the Caldera and sunset. Try Dana Villas - family run for years, open all year so the service doesn't drop off. Lovely suites and facilities. Avoid this hotel if you are after a spot of luxury and want to experience the best of Santorini.

Room Tip: Find a different hotel! The Superior suites that the hotel's website promotes are closed.

We were transferred to Notos from Thalassa in Kamari Beach because they were closing for the winter and were disappointed when we saw that it was right down the south of Santorini. But on arrival the disappointment vanished. It is right on a beautiful port.

The room was just a bed (quite a hard one) and bathroom, but the outside living room was lovely. It overlooked the port and the ocean. All of the staff were wonderful, particularly Stefanos. We had free access to the spa treatment area the whole time and the pool whilst cool was clean and refreshing. We ate in their restaurant and the food was very good.

Just a tip, if you do choose to stay here, hire a car, because it is quite a way from the rest of the island. There are a few local Tavernas to eat from within walking distance and their food is good.

Being October the island begins to close for winter. Whilst this may be disappointing, there are less tourists around which we enjoyed.

Sunsets from here were amazing. No need to travel anywhere else to see them.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the pool. These rooms also look over the port.
