“still very nice but looked a little tired”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

this was my second stay at the wanta and i must say i was a little disappointed this time, the room rate has gone up and the standard has gone down, i may have been in an older part of the hotel this time but my room looked as if it needed a right good coat of paint, there was black mould in the shower area and the towels looked grey, having said that it is still a nice place to stay all the staff are pleasant the rooms are set amongst lovely gardens and the pool area is lovely, breakfast is served between 07.00 and 10.30 with a selection of juices, omlettes, cereal, fried dishes and thai dishes, the hotel is just a short walk from all the nightlife and shops, so all in all i would say give it a go and enjoy

We were very happy with everything in that hotel, not forgetting that it is a 3* -hotel, but providing the quality and service for more:)
very clean rooms, beautiful and well maintained gardens and very nice and relaxing pool at the beach, where you can relax absolutely by looking at the ocean!
Their massages on the beach are very good, especially the coconut massage, absolutely recommended!!!
We did a full day safari trip when visiting Ko Samui and i must tell you - it is a MUST to do when on the island!!!!Adrenalin, nature, elephants- riding and show, monkey and emotions! It was one unforgettable day!
And don't forget to visit the Ao- Nang national marine park - it is wonderful there!!!

Rooms - because of the gardens and the lush plantation the rooms were a little bit dark ...

My first trip to Koh Samui was made even better my choosing Lamai Wanta. The hotel is great. Remember it is a 3 star hotel, so you don’t get all the trimmings but what is does provide is very expectable. The staff are all lovely, and more smiles than you see in most hotels. The location is perfect, on the fabulous Lamai Beach (the south end of Lamia is nicer/prettier than the north end) and 5 minute walk to the main town area full of bars, restaurants, supermarkets and tailors, and you don’t get any noise from town at night (you might in the block at the back, not sure). The rooms are basic, but modern and perfectly clean and well kept, with ice cold aircon. Bed was very comfy, with a firm, good quality matress. Good clean bathroom and powerful shower. Clean towels and sheets and complementary tea, coffee and bottled water provided every day. Wi-Fi is good across whole resort for my iphone, even by the pool. The pool is lovely and well maintained. Shower and pool towels are also available by the pool. Sunbeds and umbrellas are a bit tired, but I would imagine they are due for a change, judging by the rest of the place. The restaurant is very good and priced similar to others nearby. The food is good, as are the fresh fruit smoothies and cocktails etc. The hotel is so friendly and laid back, and I can’t wait to get back there. Nearly everyone I spoke to Lamai Wanta was a returning guest so that speaks for it's self!
Tip: Book the airport transfer through the hotel both ways. I didn’t and paid the standard 700bht from the airport but only 500bht through the hotel on the way back.

Room Tip: I would imagine all the rooms are fine, but you might get noise from town at the back of the resort...

We transferred from our first hotel in Bophut to Lamai effortlessly in a big A/C van arranged by management to be checked in and relaxing by the pool with a cocktail in less than an hour. Choice of a very nice beach or a beautifully tiled pool, beach cabana with afternoon happy hours and light snacks as well. The restaurant's food was brilliant and service faultless and friendly as was reception and housekeeping. Main shops, pubs and restaurants all within an easy walk and walking street markets are not to be missed. We had a standard room (clean, cool and comfy) and our friends had bungalows (quite spacious) and at good rates. Going to Lamai, don't overlook the Wanta.

Before we arrived at this hotel I sent an email to ask how much I should expect to pay to get from the airport to the hotel. This was answered straight away and the hotel said they could book transport for 500bht. We booked this and on arrival a young man was waiting for us. We had a people carrier to ourselves, very nice. I really recommend that you take this option and do not bother trying to book a taxi on arrival yourself.

On arrival we were given a refreshing drink and shown to the restaurant as our room would not be ready for another hour as we had arrived in the morning. Our room was located towards the back of the property and was the block closest to the road. The rooms on the ground floor you enter via the patio and the upper floor has a balcony with entrance at the back. I read some previous complaints about noise in this block. We did not hear the noise from the road but we did get woken up by our neighbour coming in at 1.30 and playing music and bringing women back with him. The walls are very thin in these properties and some people are just so inconsiderate. The room itself was very basic and the furniture is looking a bit tired. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was excellent. The aircon worked well and the fridge and tv were functional. They also provide tea and coffee and 4 bottles of water each day. The room was cleaned daily and the towels and sheets replaced daily. The toiletries they provide are shower gel and shampoo and you may have to ask to get these replaced. After being woken up two nights on the trot we asked to move rooms. We were given room 201. What a difference, the bathroom was updated and the furniture was in better condition. Don't accept a room in the block at the back they are poor compared to the rooms nearer to the front. The original room we were in was 701.

The pool is very nice overlooking the beach and we never had a problem getting a sun bed. There are of course the usual guests who reserve a bed and don't show up till midday. One guest had even made up their own reserved sign, check out the photo. I am pleased to say that these guests were not British, I bet you can guess where they came from! The beds also had a foam topper making them extremely comfortable. Towels are also available by the pool and they are happy for you to take two if you need them.

The breakfast was very good. It was more or less the same each day but you could change your egg order or have a Thai option if you wished. The bacon was excellent and the chef cooked a lovely poached egg. They also had fresh fruit, cereals, toast and some cakes. If you are on a room only rate the breakfast will cost you 250 Bht a day. We didn't try lunch or dinner here but I am sure it would have been good. You can see right in the kitchen which was spotlessly clean.

This hotel really is a good location. You are right on the beach but only a two minute walk from the main area. I would recommend this hotel if you are elderly and not able to venture far. It is all on your doorstep and it really is a peaceful place to stay. There are also restaurants just to the left of the hotel on the beach. There is also a night food market area where you can order your food, find a table and take your own drink. The food here is excellent, fresh and very tasty. To get here come out of the hotel turn left and at the top of the street turn right. It is on the left hand side of the road near the boxing area. I personally do not think that this is a suitable hotel for children given that most of the guests are older and there are a lot of girlie bars close by.

The hotel also has free wifi which we used a lot, I was able to write this review whilst sat on the sun bed over looking the pool.

All in all for what we paid we were happy. Our room was the delux option but from what we could make out it was the same as a basic room with a DVD player. I personally would stay here again as it met all of our needs. If you are however looking for luxury and high end rooms look elsewhere but expect to pay a considerably higher rate. This is great value for money.

Room Tip: Make sure you are not staying in the block closest to the road at the back of the property, these ro...

My fifth visit to Koh Samui and because I was on a Cycle Challange we were booked into the Lamai Wanta hotel as the end 3 days of our tour. What a breath of fresh air this place is after staying in the chaweng beach Area the last few times. Rooms are clean, modern and well cared for.
The staff are all fabulous and were quick to fix any problems incured and the restaurant overlooking the pool and beach serves a great selection of thai and western food, great if you have travel partners who are a little scared to take on the local cuisine.
There are a plethora of massages available on the beach and everyone even the hawkers are very layed back.
The local area is worth an explore, Same Same shopping as other places on the island but everything is a bit cheaper and the bartering is a bit easier and not as cut throat as Cheweng.
A nice find!

Room Tip: Most Rooms face into the gardens, the villas are closer to the beach and pool!

Stayed at Lamai Wanta hotel from 22nd Jan 2013 for the first 3 of a six night stay on the island of Koh Samui, I chose this hotel after reading the reviews on trip advisor and I was not disappointed, what a lovely pleasant hotel in a great location right on the beach and a 2 min stroll to the high street which you can see from the hotel entrance. The hotel has a nice relaxed feel with pretty grounds leading to hotel rooms, Infinity pool is nice size with a beach towel service along side, nice touch, other hotels should take note!

Staff provided the usual friendly Thai service we all expect, I stayed room only so can’t comment on their buffet breakfast, I had a few lunch time meals from the hotel restaurant which were good.
This is a good quality 3 star hotel which is great value for money which I would definitely use again in the future!
