“Great value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2013

Before we arrived at this hotel I sent an email to ask how much I should expect to pay to get from the airport to the hotel. This was answered straight away and the hotel said they could book transport for 500bht. We booked this and on arrival a young man was waiting for us. We had a people carrier to ourselves, very nice. I really recommend that you take this option and do not bother trying to book a taxi on arrival yourself.

On arrival we were given a refreshing drink and shown to the restaurant as our room would not be ready for another hour as we had arrived in the morning. Our room was located towards the back of the property and was the block closest to the road. The rooms on the ground floor you enter via the patio and the upper floor has a balcony with entrance at the back. I read some previous complaints about noise in this block. We did not hear the noise from the road but we did get woken up by our neighbour coming in at 1.30 and playing music and bringing women back with him. The walls are very thin in these properties and some people are just so inconsiderate. The room itself was very basic and the furniture is looking a bit tired. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was excellent. The aircon worked well and the fridge and tv were functional. They also provide tea and coffee and 4 bottles of water each day. The room was cleaned daily and the towels and sheets replaced daily. The toiletries they provide are shower gel and shampoo and you may have to ask to get these replaced. After being woken up two nights on the trot we asked to move rooms. We were given room 201. What a difference, the bathroom was updated and the furniture was in better condition. Don't accept a room in the block at the back they are poor compared to the rooms nearer to the front. The original room we were in was 701.

The pool is very nice overlooking the beach and we never had a problem getting a sun bed. There are of course the usual guests who reserve a bed and don't show up till midday. One guest had even made up their own reserved sign, check out the photo. I am pleased to say that these guests were not British, I bet you can guess where they came from! The beds also had a foam topper making them extremely comfortable. Towels are also available by the pool and they are happy for you to take two if you need them.

The breakfast was very good. It was more or less the same each day but you could change your egg order or have a Thai option if you wished. The bacon was excellent and the chef cooked a lovely poached egg. They also had fresh fruit, cereals, toast and some cakes. If you are on a room only rate the breakfast will cost you 250 Bht a day. We didn't try lunch or dinner here but I am sure it would have been good. You can see right in the kitchen which was spotlessly clean.

This hotel really is a good location. You are right on the beach but only a two minute walk from the main area. I would recommend this hotel if you are elderly and not able to venture far. It is all on your doorstep and it really is a peaceful place to stay. There are also restaurants just to the left of the hotel on the beach. There is also a night food market area where you can order your food, find a table and take your own drink. The food here is excellent, fresh and very tasty. To get here come out of the hotel turn left and at the top of the street turn right. It is on the left hand side of the road near the boxing area. I personally do not think that this is a suitable hotel for children given that most of the guests are older and there are a lot of girlie bars close by.

The hotel also has free wifi which we used a lot, I was able to write this review whilst sat on the sun bed over looking the pool.

All in all for what we paid we were happy. Our room was the delux option but from what we could make out it was the same as a basic room with a DVD player. I personally would stay here again as it met all of our needs. If you are however looking for luxury and high end rooms look elsewhere but expect to pay a considerably higher rate. This is great value for money.

Room Tip: Make sure you are not staying in the block closest to the road at the back of the property, these ro...

My fifth visit to Koh Samui and because I was on a Cycle Challange we were booked into the Lamai Wanta hotel as the end 3 days of our tour. What a breath of fresh air this place is after staying in the chaweng beach Area the last few times. Rooms are clean, modern and well cared for.
The staff are all fabulous and were quick to fix any problems incured and the restaurant overlooking the pool and beach serves a great selection of thai and western food, great if you have travel partners who are a little scared to take on the local cuisine.
There are a plethora of massages available on the beach and everyone even the hawkers are very layed back.
The local area is worth an explore, Same Same shopping as other places on the island but everything is a bit cheaper and the bartering is a bit easier and not as cut throat as Cheweng.
A nice find!

Room Tip: Most Rooms face into the gardens, the villas are closer to the beach and pool!

Stayed at Lamai Wanta hotel from 22nd Jan 2013 for the first 3 of a six night stay on the island of Koh Samui, I chose this hotel after reading the reviews on trip advisor and I was not disappointed, what a lovely pleasant hotel in a great location right on the beach and a 2 min stroll to the high street which you can see from the hotel entrance. The hotel has a nice relaxed feel with pretty grounds leading to hotel rooms, Infinity pool is nice size with a beach towel service along side, nice touch, other hotels should take note!

Staff provided the usual friendly Thai service we all expect, I stayed room only so can’t comment on their buffet breakfast, I had a few lunch time meals from the hotel restaurant which were good.
This is a good quality 3 star hotel which is great value for money which I would definitely use again in the future!

This was my 5th time staying at Lamai Wanta since 2010. Still well maintained. Discreet but friendly, helpful staff. Rooms still in good condition, minimalist but comfortable.

Breakfast selection is ok, but good enough. It is the location of the restaurant with the perfect sea breeze that always makes it a pleasure to eat there.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the bar road for a better nights sleep.

Nice pool close to the beach. Was a bit small though.

Good beach which wasn't too busy but big waves that can knock you over ... so not much swimming in the sea, I'm afraid. Massage on the beach starts at Bht 250.

Adequate rooms and comfortable beds. A 5-10 minute walk to Lamai town for shops, restaurants etc.

Staff are friendly. Food was fine. Breakfast offerings did not change much over the 4 days I was there. Overall, a good stay.

The Lamai Wanta is located right on the beach and is made up of a few small buildings and several bungalows. I was located in the building at the back of the compound. The room was fine but I would recommend that you request a room in one of the buildings closer to the beach. The rooms were clean and simple and had free wifi and a safe inside. The breakfast was included and had a good selection to get you started every day. There were plenty of sun loungers for everyone so issues at all getting one.

Be warned that if you are eating at the restaurants on the beach right next to the hotel, although the food is quite good the service is extremely slow. Be prepared to wait close to 1 hour plus to get your food.

This trip was the first time that I had flown into Surat Thani instead of Samui Airport and I must say I wouldn't do that journey again. From the Airport in Surat Thani you can buy a ticket at the airport and gets you right to the pier on Samui for I believe 350 Baht. It's a long journey and not really worth the extra time in my mind. We had booked a transfer with the same operator to get us from the pier in Samui to Lamai beach for another 150 baht per person. On the return journey back, we got a taxi from the hotel for 500 baht right to the pier. From there you just buy a ticket at the pier for 150 baht each to get to the other side. If you're lucky you'll arrive at a time when there is a bus straight to the airport but most likely you'll end up having to take a bus to Surat Thani town (100 baht) and then an airport bus from the town to the airport or take a Tuktuk/Taxi (400 baht). Where bus from the airport drops you off, the bus to the airport leaves within a block from there. It's not marked at all so you'll need to ask around.

Room Tip: Get a room in a building closer to the beach. The rooms at the back are facing the street.

We visited some friends who lives close to Lamai beach so I don't have a lot comments related to the bars and resturants in the area next to the hotel. The hotel was just like another beach hotel no more no less. Pool was ok and next to the resturant and beach. Beach as such was quite busy. Service was ok although some staff could not understand English. Breakfast was as expected. We had a "De Lux Room" but there is no "De Lux" associated with it.
All in all - quite average.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms at the back end of the resort since they are next to the Jetski repair- and maintena...
