“Awesome service - Highly recommended”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2011

My wife and I stayed at Chaulty Towers for 5 nights in December 2010. The location is excellent - 7-10 minutes walk to Lamai beach. Location is quiet, rooms are clean, hot water, a/c, mini fridge. The beds are rather hard, but we like harder beds, so it worked perfectly for us. Just don't expect 5-star accommodations and you will be very happy at Chaulty Towers. The hotel has a small pool and a hot tub, which is nice. Free and very fast wi-fi Internet was a big plus. Steve, the hotel owner, is a very friendly guy and will give you a lift to town any time. Overall, this hotel's price/quality is unbeatable on Koh Samui.

Most of all that impressed us was the service. We left our clothes at a nearby laundry the day before our departure, and it was a mistake - the laundry lady simply was not home the entire morning 8-12 on our departure (do Not use the laundry on the same side of the street - the laundry lady is unreliable). So, we left without our clothes and asked Steve if he would pick it up and mail it to our hotel in Bangkok. He did so the very next day and did not even charge anything for the express overnight mail to Bangkok! Wow! We have never seen hotels offer such a great service. Thank you, Steve - we will be back.

Spent 11 nights with Steve in Lamai and had a great time. Room was nice and clean, good value for the price. With wifi, swimming pool and hot tub you cant really knock it. I'll be going back for sure.

Well I would like to say how impressed we were with chaulty resort.Steve the hotel manager and owner and his wife Ore could not do enough for us, from supplying any type food we requested(he went out of his way to purchase such goods)...He drove us to wherever we wanted to go and whenever. He has an honesty bar which means you write down your bill pay for your drinks after you serve yourself from the constantly stocked fridge in the bar area.In other words you can have an open bar to suit your own hours..Where would you get it!!!! The rooms were cleaned and fresh bed linen every day.The decor is fresh and modern..Beds are so cosy..and bathrooms are huge...All the food is home cooked and delicious.Location was ideal to the beach and tesco down the road.Everything was so close and handy. The town was a stones throw away (we were at the beginning of the town of Lamai which was half the price of goods in the main centre)!!!! Steve knows the locals hence the advice of where to shop and get bargains and good food at very cheap prices. The pool was spotless at all times considering the heavy rains in october!! He went out of his way to make us comfortable
on our stay of two weeks....My Daughter was getting married on Lamai Beach and 28 guests from all over the globe arrived staying in various hotels close by.Steve was a good co-ordinator for us all aswell as organising everyone for the stags and hens nights
also shuttling us to and from each others hotels each day..or group gatherings in the town.We are so grateful for his help which was not expected in our trip.Total recomendation for chaulty towers resort and long may he do well, because he deserves it....It will be hard to match this service on our trip somewhere else...From a very ,very satisfied group of visitors to chaulty resort.....ps.. I forgot to mention how he helped all the younger ones to organise their trip to the full moon party!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Photos will follow shortly..........

My girlfriend and I booked this hotel based on previous reviews on TripAdvisor. We had never been to Koh Samui before, going there was a spur of the moment decision from elsewhere in Thailand. We are certainly glad we made the journey, and even more happy that we chose Chaulty Towers as our home away from home. So much that we ended up doubling our time in Samui.

We were picked up from the ferry port by the owner Steve and his wife Ore free of charge as we were staying for a week. The hotel is located at Lamai which is about a half hour trip from the port. Upon arrival we were greeted by heads of security Rambo and Sam (Steves dogs) and were then shown to our room.

Our room was fantastic. The rooms at Chaulty Towers are clean comfortable and come with everything you need. The bed was nice and comfortable and the aircon worked a treat. You are provided with tea/coffee making facilities, lcd tv, dvd player, sound system and a security safe. Finally a dvd player to watch all the cheap movies we had accumulated during our trip! On top of all this, the pool is about 3 steps outside your front door! Next to the pool is a free to play pool table and a newly added Jacuzzi.

None of this is what would make uis come back to Chaulty Towers, its all about the hospitality. Steve, his wife and staff really do go out of their way to ensure your stay is comfortable and hassle free. Breakfast is served right up until around 1pm and you are able to have whatever you want whether it be Steves english breakfast, fresh baguettes, cereal etc. I left for Bangkok yesterday and am already missing that English breakfast.

The hotel is down a local rd on the outskirts of town, I'd say it probably takes about 10 minutes walk to get to the start of the main strip and about the same to the beach. Dont worry its an easy walk, not that it mattered anyway because Steve offered to take us in his car every single day! In addition to trips to the beach, we also tagged along for Steves music gigs in Lamai and the fishing village, and also went on a great island tour with Steve and some of his other guests.

Lamai is a great place and we definately prefer it to Chaweng. There is plenty of stuff going on but its small enough to escape easily when you have had enough. The ladyboy show and the Shamrock bars showband are must sees and alot of fun. If your going to lounge around on the beach, do so at Swing Bar. Cheap food and drinks, incredibly friendly staff and free sunbeds.

Thankyou very much Steve for your friendly and helpful nature and for helping to make our stay in Samui enjoyable. Good luck to you both with the new baby girl.

This is run by Steve and his wife Ore who will do all they can to help you have a great holiday. The rooms are spotless and well maintained. They have great Air Condition which is a must, along with CD, Fridge and the rooms are very spacious. Breakfast is served up to lunchtime, its great no rushing after a late night out. Also Steve gets in fresh bread etc each day. You are a leisurely 10 min stroll to town and Steve will run you down when he is around. There is a little shop selling cigs, milk, sweets etc just down the road. Also there is a great laundry service which is so cheap, around £3 for about 12 items to be cleaned (unbelievable). Everything is so laid back it is a great feeling, Steve will take you on a tour of the island, we did it and had a great time, no hanging around waiting on a coach load of travellers. Also he took us to some of the places he played (he sings) in and the food was very good. He also told us other places to go to eat which were great too. We were out in Koh Samui for a wedding and part of our group were staying in some of the other big hotels in Lamai, they said our rooms were better then theirs.

Starting from the top i booked this accomodation from reviews off here from trip advisor, booked flights seperately and away we went not sure what to expect, but have been to Phuket so had some inclination that things might be similar.
Good flight using EVA and sweet transfer to Koh Samui via Bangkok Airways. Yes on arrival tired but was greeted in person by Steve and his wife Ore.
Obviously tired didnt really want to do much because of late evening so bed to start fresh the next day.
Steve's property is on the outskirts of the town of Lamai, very easy walk in and as far as we were corncened very safe. It is a lovely small dwelling with a lovely pool to dip in when you want a quick dip.
Steve greeted us warmly in the morning and after taking our request for breakie went and purchased very fresh produce for which he did every day and changed it when ever we wished. Service was great, very friendly and gave us a wealth of information.
Steve gave us lifts everywhere when he was free nothing was too much trouble and yes he is a fun guy with good humour. His lovely wife Ore speaks some English and always greets you with a lovely smile and her sister cleans the rooms to a high standard.
We enjoyed their company so on our last but one night treated them to a meal as they made our holiday very very special!
Steve plays guitar and sings and is pretty good, plays twice a week in two venues and we attended most of his gigs as we like the style of music he plays from Dire Straits, Clapton even through to Elvis. If he has room he will take you along and if he is playing with Chris its a must!
Lamai is lovely, nice beach the end where Steve is and nice and quiet with a good beach restaraunt called the Zenith. 10 min walk tops with brousing to do on the way with no hills as such for you non walkers!
Tesco Lotus is about a 8 min walk and oh my god what a fab clean supermarket. After doing a little shopping / browsing we had lunch there in a big food hall which was expensive at about £1.20 a big wow and fab!
Eating in Lamai is good however the street stalls knock out great local food at silly cheap prices.
A must visit to the Shamrock (Irish bar) who have live music from 10pm every night and we loved the band Ovada who are very entertaining. Say hello to Noel and Danny who will make you very welcome with their great staff. In Lamai go see the lady boy show very funny indeed and the Thai boxing was great Saturday night in the centre, both free events.
Back to Steve and Chaulty Towers. My partner suffers from a bad back and initailly found the bed hard (it wasnt) however he looked after us and laid on some extra bedding!!!!!
She soon found it was fine and as beds go very comfortable and plenty of room. Steve can guide you with some good sights to see and can organise transport delivered to the premises if needed which is cheap and saves you going through passport details.
Steve speaks fluent Thai and is simply a great host and now a good friend as we will be returning at some stage for sure! There is lots to do on Koh Samui and we need to see the rest as the island its simply lovely, in my opinion ahead of Phuket by miles. It is exotic, quite, lively and what scenery especially when you get into the hills.

If you failed to enjoy a stay with Steve we would be surprised as he is a gem for help and fun.

Big thank you Karen & John xx
ps life mega hectic since we have been back and hating it!
