4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013 via mobile

Stayed in the villa. Recently renovated private dwelling on beach front with daily friendly servicing this place surprised us with everything we needed. Stayed for a week at low season trying almost every service they could offer. Other facilities close by made it very easy to use as a home base. Friendly staff and enjoyable food. Fabulous holiday and very affordable. West Australians.

The staff seems lacy and slow when they work. They didd'nt pay enough attention to the guest.
Breakfast was ooookay. Nothing to be quite exited about. I missed some more fruit. Bread was okay, however a bit dry.
Again the staff were lacy, slowly, and seemed like they wanted to be anywhere else. I could wait 10-15 min to be asked if i wanted any coffee. not okay.

Also the beach was UNSWIMMABLE! Rocks and trash everywhere. The rocks, okay not much to do about that. But the trash!

Great pool. Beach as mentioned was very rocky- you just need to walk a little further to avoid them- but once past the swimming is just lovely/ nice deep water. The drinks at the bar are very good. The restaurant was being renovated so we could not eat there but plenty of places close by. The rooms are large and modern. Had a room overlooking the pool and beach. Had the best night sleep in the huge beds. Bathrooms are nice and modern. Great TV with cable.
My issues with fenix were shower water temperature control kept going hot cold hot cold. Very annoying.
The pool can't be used after 7pm!
Crappy room service menu.
I called reception to ask for more toilet paper and they had no idea what I was talking about!
Breakfast was good danish/eggs/fruit/toast/cereal and a lovely setting to eat it in.
Nice quiet setting about 5-10 mins out of lamai by motorbike. Not too many annoying tourists everywhere. Older crowd. Loved by Russians & Chinese.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Fenix resort for about a week. We were both very happy with the professionalism of the staff, who always went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our time there. We ate most of our meals at the Nest restaurant and it was all delicious. We stayed in a King Superior Room and were very comfortable. Although the beach wasn't really suitable for swimming, the pool was great. The hotel was a stand out as it is modern and well presented.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony away from the street, it is a very busy road, particularly at night.

Firstly, the beach is unswimmable - full of rocks! The manager was the only employee that spoke english, and like every manager he wasn't always available. The service was terrible, to the point that sometimes they ask you to pick up what you ask for from the front desk (e.g. when we asked for anything like a bottle opener, adapter, etc they wanted us to get it ourselves). The shower didn't have constant warm water; it would go cold randomly so we couldn't even have proper showers. When we complained they told us it cannot be fixed because apparently they don't have their own water heaters. The room wasn't cleaned properly, empty bottles and fruit peelings were left on the table for two days. AVOID THIS PLACE!!
Oh one more thing, towels aren't available after 11, and no bar/restaurant after 10:30.

Room Tip: The only tip I can give you is to avoid this hotel at all costs!

I stayed at the Fenix Resort for two nights over the Christmas holiday before moving to another hotel in Chaweng. I chose the hotel for two reasons: it's proximity to Rocky's Resort (Lamai) where my friends were staying and being a part of the ACCOR network.

Well, it's no longer part of the ACCOR network; however they acknowledged my status and gave me a discount on all food and beverages which was appreciated.

The beds were nice and stiff and the bathrooms were modern. The individual porches were a nice way to wind down an evening with a drink before bed.

The "fitness" facility was quite small featuring only a couple treadmills and ellipticals as well as weights up to 12kg.

The pool was nice and the beach was nice to look at - little room to actually lounge on the beach due to close breaking surf.

The hotel is a great value and conveniently located in Maret/Lamai, but it still leaves a little to be desired. The management is working hard to redefine the facility independent of ACCOR, but it's slow going as still needs some spit and polish and continued training of staff (can't say they weren't phenomenally friendly though!).

For those visiting KS on a budget, this is a great option - I would be intrigued to see what a villa looks like. I would definitely consider it again after a little more time has passed and the operating kinks are ironed out.
