“A fabulous February holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2014

We have just returned from 10 fabulous days at this excellent hotel. Facilities superb, lovely large sweet warm water pool. Perfect for good swimmers as well as for fun, helpful, smiley staff.
I wish we had booked for longer...we could not fault it.
The location is great if you like to sea swim as we did. Lovely clear water, we wore summer wet suits but it is possible to swim without but quick dip only. Beach just below hotel, not sandy but perfect for swimming.
The walking was amazing and location great for many of the trails so well marked out and written about in walk la gomera..the discovery series. Not for the faint hearted but if you are fit, breathtaking scenery.
Would definitely recommend this hotel .

Room Tip: If you want a double bed you will have to make sure you don't have twins pushed together which s...

Hotel set in beautiful surroundings. Quiet and idyllic setting. Playa De Santiago a pleasant local village with very reasonable bars and cafes. Hotel food good with plenty of choice. Island is stunning.

We had a wonderful vacation at this hotel, mostly because because it's so peaceful and quiet. We had a superior room overlooking the sea and the view was amazing. The room itself was basic but well kept and very clean. The bed was a bit on the hard side for my husband but I didn't mind it. The hotel is really a lot of little white villa type buildings. I think the idea is that it should looks like a little village and the effect of the landscaping and the colourful bougainvillaea against the blue sea is very charming. It is beautifully situated on a cliffside though perhaps it could be steep in places for those who have trouble getting around. We did not mind at all walking to the main building for meals or to the various pools as it gave us a chance to enjoy the beautiful scenery. The buffets for breakfast and dinner while not being what I would call excellent were fine and as a vegetarian I had enough choice. One small complaint was the last morning our charter were leaving early and we were told we could have breakfast at 5 am but there was very little food supplied. At 5:30 when we left most of the food had still not been put out. I understand perhaps they had not time to put out all the cooked food but we had paid for breakfasts and had expected more. This was a minor issue though and we really enjoyed our stay and would be glad to go back as long as the area and the hotel remain unspoiled by the rampant commercialism that ruining so much of the Canary Islands

Room Tip: Views from the sea view rooms are spectacular. The upstairs rooms have little balconies and the low...

You could not fault the rooms - spacious, views to die for sanitory fittings a bit dated but very clean. The safe didn't work when we first arrived and there were no robes in the room. Both faults were put right within 30 minutes. The balcony had 2 sunbeds,2 chairs a table and parasol on it making it a favourite spot for a evening glass of wine watching the sun go down. The bed was the most comfortable we have slept in in a hotel. The mini bar was well stocked and there was plenty tea and coffee available. Breakfast was the best meal of the day.Plenty of fruit, yoghurt etc. The pre cooked food was a bit dismal, rubbery overcooked eggs and omlettes, tired sausages and bacon. The evening buffet was most definitely not up to standard all the meat and fish was cooked to death and the vegetables left under heat lamps just curled up and died.Luckily the salads were good so we lived on cheese and salads with fruit for pudding. We found the house wine was reasonable and not expensive. We ate in the Tapas bar apart from the slow service due to understaffing this meal wasn't too bad, amused to find razor clams served in a tin on your plate but the steak was excellent. It is such a shame that the food let's this lovely, peaceful hotel down.

Room Tip: Go for a upgrade superior room up stairs with a sea view.well worth it

We stayed here for 6 nights Feb 2014 this being our 2nd visit. We only choose the bed and breakfast option as there are too many negative reviews regarding the restaurant food. This gives us the opportunity to sample the many delightful restaurants in playa Santiago and the taverna opposite. The rooms are more than adequate, clean, comfortable and very quiet. Perfect for a chill out. My only small criticism is breakfast. A delightful setting with plenty of food choice. Excellent omelettes. But the coffee is weak and bread / pastries sometimes a little stale. And yes I do agree with other reviewers that the staff are ready to be rid of you by 9.30am with food being cleared away before you have finished so not ideal for those wanting a long late breakfast! Apart from that fabulous. Definitely will be back.

We found the buffets amazing, top quality, the salad bar, crisp fresh and with more flavour than I have sampled for years. The white chocolate and dark chocolate fountains were a pleasure indeed!
Happy cheerful hardworking staff, our flat was cleaned daily and shone.
Sardines cooked on site, turkey being carved, beef, ham and much else.
The gardens were simply beautiful, exotic and colourful, stray leaves swept away as soon as they fell.
Superb swimming pools except the 'Lilac' one down the cliff was a tad cold, sea water from the Atlantic so I suppose that is par for the course.
Comfortable picturesque lounge to enjoy and I found waiters were around in seconds.

Being a world traveller I cannot understand some negative comments, can't find one fault, just sheer bliss and perfection, was so pampered.

Room Tip: Our room, 424, was clean, quiet and restful.

We stayed here from the 12th-19th January 2014 having read all the glowing reviews on Trip Advisor and were really looking forward to our stay.
On arrival, during check in time, we received a cool welcome at reception. We were informed that our room wasn't ready but we were told it would be 20 minutes and received a complementary drink to have near the pool while we waited, which was a nice gesture. After 30 minutes we went back to reception and were told the room was ready with our luggage waiting in it. The receptionist was quite unhelpful with which direction we should go in and were given quite vague instructions as to the rooms location. The receptionist just didn't seem to have time for us even though there was no one else checking in or waiting. On arrival at our room our luggage wasn't there even though we were told it was already in the room. The room was tidy, well maintained and cleaned thoroughly before arrival but during our stay the bathroom was not cleaned again and soap etc. was not replenished.
The meals (we were half board) were very average, especially when considering that this hotel is far more expensive than other Canarian hotels we have stayed at with the same set up. Replenishment of the buffet dishes was poor with guest's standing about waiting for dishes to be filled. Many times it seemed as though they didn't bother bringing out any more desserts during the last half hour of the evening meal, leaving just a few bashed up bits of cake on the counter top. In some ways the worst part of our stay was that staff morale seemed really low and you got the feeling that you were an inconvenience to be endured by many of them. One evening we were sat in a part of the restaurant and two waiters hadn't realised we were there. They were making derogatory impressions of British good manners which stopped abruptly when they noticed us. We are not so naive as to think this doesn't happen behind the scenes at all hotels but unfortunately this sums up general staff ethos at this hotel. At checkout the receptionist finally came over when he had finished listening to something on the wireless. There was no interest from them as to wether we had enjoyed our stay and our onward journey.
This is the first time we have written anything on Trip Advisor as we have always found the reviews on it give a reasonable and balanced comment on hotels but our experience did not tally on this occasion. As this hotel is twice the price of other 4* hotels in the Canaries we thought we were coming to something a bit more special. In the end we received poorer service than the other hotels we have stayed in.
To be fair to the hotel the good points were as follows-
-well kept grounds.
-good location, with easy lift access to the beach and local resort & supermarkets etc.
-near to the public bus stop, making linear hikes easy if you want a car free day. Unfortunately the bus timetable is pretty poor unless you can be up and out very early.

This hotel could so easily have been a 5/5. La Gomera is a beautiful island, we will definitely return, just not to this hotel!

Room Tip: Ask for a first floor room as there is not much privacy in ground floor rooms.
