“Country Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

I loved this restaurant on the outskirts of McGregor - from the country setting overlooking vineyards and the tasteful, unusual décor to the food.

Arriving at De Kaap after a trip from neighbouring farmlands, we were rewarded with a selection of wines from local estates and a smorgasboard that showcased local produce and seasonal ingredients at the same time. Picture Cumin spiced Carrot Soup, Olive Tapenade, Olive Ciabatta Bread, Free range Chicken Liver Pate and Pissaladiere tart with caramelised onions, tomato, anchovy and olives. The free range roast pork for mains was so delicious I broke one of my golden rules and gorged myself on crackling, discounting the calories just this once. Almond and Preserved Apricot Suurkjie pudding to end the meal was a gentle reminder that the Western Cape fruit region is only a stone's throw away.

Owner run and with a herb garden outside providing the kitchen, this is one of the Cape Winelands area's best kept secrets.

Local singer, Konrad was playing, and we joined a group of friends for a fabulous evening of entertainment and super food. Love the ambience and the views - summer and winter.

“A stylish welcome to McGregor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

De Kaap is a beautiful place to eat, inside or out at any time of the year. This is a well designed restaurant where taste, décor and a love of food is presented by the young owners. The views are of vineyards almost all around the property. Service is polished and knowledgeable both about the specials and the wine list. The food changes on an almost daily basis and is good value especially the famous Sunday Buffet and champagne brunches. If you want style with good food and great views , look no further. Conveniently located a few km outside McGregor, not far from McGregor winery.

The out door setting, view, food and owner's service all came together perfectly. Choose a sunny day, book in advance and sit outside, definitely recommended

“Relaxing Sunday lunch in a little corner of paradise !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

Situated on a piece of farmland just outside McGregor, this rustic eatery oozes charm and tranquility from the moment you walk in. Sunday lunches are usually served buffet-style, but, Aimee (our host) had sent me a message ahead of time to say that there would be a small a la carte menu served because it was going to be a relatively quiet lunch. Seated on the patio overlooking the farmlands with the mountains in the distance provides a perfect setting for a lazy, unrushed meal. Starters included a springbok carpaccio, chilled betroot soup and spicy braised chicken livers served with naan bread. Main courses included Karoo lamb chops with minted potatoes, grilled sole with rough cut fries and a chicken dish. The food was splendid and served in generous portions, beautifully presented in a wholesome and non-fussy manner. We could not resist the pear and almond frangipan tart served with clotted farm cream to go with our coffees. All in all a magnificent experience.
