5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2011

We spent 2 nights at Tanagra and wish we could have stayed a whole week. It was a wonderful to come and completely unwind in such lovely surroundings. We enjoyed exploring the nearby town of McGregor and walking in the nearby mountains, but most of all taking it easy at the farm itself; evening strolls through the vineyard, lounging by the pool by the day and braaing (BBQ-ing) up a feast for supper. Very comfortable accomodation and such friendly and helpful hosts in Robert, Annettee and Jupp the dog.

We found Tanagra via the web, our aim was to be closed to Macgregor....... What a great find, just 2 km from Macgregor this lovely wine farm with very well appointed cottages, the hosts have thought about their guest's every needs, therefore making our stay a wonderful one. Annette and Robert cannot do enough to make you feel welcome, and go as fare as giving you a complimentary bottle of their wine.... A breakfast not to forget with home made jams and breads as well as local products set you up . They were very helpful when we enquired about a restaurant to celebrate New Years Eve, on their recommandation we went to Tebaldi and were served an excellent meal that was as good as a top meal served in a top restaurant in Cape Town. Then the street!! of Macgregor was entertained by the wonderful local brass band, our stay in that part of the world will not be forgotten. For our next mini break, we will definitely visit Annette and Robert at Tanagra and Macgregor where everybody has time........................

My wife and I were on a 3 day road trip from Hemanus and spent the first day/night exploring the Robertson wine area. We spent the day making our way to McGregor via a few great wineries and villages/town - a stunning area of South Africa and worth a leisurely day trip. Pulled into the Tanagra farmhouse at around 4 and were blown away at how nice and tranquil the whole place is. The location is great and I recommend sitting by the pool post your day and soaking up the scenery. The rooms are 5 star and the additional efforts and little touches that Robert and Annette have added are the icing on the cake.
We booked a table at Karoux (McGregor) for dinner that evening, its a must do and I promise you won't be disappointed - that is if you like small restaurants run by and extremely passionate chief who serves mouth wateringly good FRESH food. I've enjoyed many lamp chops around the world but none as tasty as these......HOWEVER be warned the breakfast that awaits you in the morning is out of this world so don't eat too much!!!
Breakfast is fresh local breads, fruits and JAMS along with some other German treats, it sets you up for the day ahead.
All is all a very well priced and enjoyable place to stay.

* Excellent recently restored property, with spacious facilities.
* Close to nature, and pleasant walks closeby.
* Good breakfast including many homemade jams etc from the farm.
* Passionate hosts, who are keen to ensure you enjoy your stay. Facilitated the booking of a local excellent restaurant.
* Not in centre of town, so require transport to dine out; self catering facilities do exist.

The farm has a wonderful location - close to McGregor and adjacent to the Vrolikheid Nature Reserve. Anette & Robert are superb hosts without being intrusive. The rooms are most comfortable and the breakfasts amazing. Tanagra also has a fine selection of wines and grappa. A stay on the farm is highly recommended.

My wife and I spent two wonderful nights in the Hill Cottage last week. It was a fantastic experience! The owners, Anette and Robert, made us feel wolcome from the minute we arrived. Th cottage is beautifully appointed and was absolutely, spotlessly clean. We enjoyed the estate wine (a complimentary bottle in our room on arrival) and made sure we took some home. The setting is magnificent, with the cottage set against a slope surrounded by fynbos and overlooking the vinyards. It was mid-winter and so we were pleased to have a lovely fireplace strategically placed close to the comfortable bed. All in all it was an ideal setting for our little romantic break. It is also just outside the village of McGregor which has a great offering of historic sites and some great places to eat and shop. We also enjoyed a great walk in the nearby nature reserve.

I celebrated my birthday at Tanagra with some close friends and stayed at Hill Cottage which is just such a lovely space set away from the main buildings on a hill overlooking McGregor. Anette and Robert came to South Africa from Germany to live their dream and relocated to McGregor. They are the most unbelievable hosts and made us feel a part of their family. Anette's German breakfast was a gourmet delight and almost everthing served at the table was made specially for us including the breads, jams and pate's.
Their wines are extremely quaffable and Robert makes a style of grappa in different flavours such as lemon and apricot plus many others too.
Tanagra is an unpretentious place with a wonderfully livable decor style and a few days here will put life back into perspective
