We celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary in the Porcupine selfcatering unit. What a lovely and peaceful weekend it was, but not without some excitement in some 4x4'ing at Walker Bay with some tips from the owners! Thank you for a lovely stay! We'll see you soon!

Room Tip: Porcupine self-catering was great!

It was a lovely time and very peaceful. Scenery with the mountains and river is just amazing, especially in the mornings with sunrise.
Will see you again in the future!

Thanks

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this establishment and can highly recommend it. The whole place feels like home and welcomes you from the moment you step in. We slept extremely well - so often the beds at B&B's/guesthouses are not all that comfortable, but you won't have that problem here. The room was spotlessly clean and fresh cups/glasses were provided every day. The setting on the river is wonderful, as you can listen to the birds from early in the morning, and just take in the view. We didn't go rowing, because it was rather chilly and wet, but it must be lovely to explore the river a bit more. Also, the setting is ideal for mountain biking. Definitely a place we'd love to visit again!

While working in the Hemel an Aarde valley I chanced upon a tiny review of an idyllic getaway just outside Stanford. Something about it beckoned, the thought of the river and birdwatching, the silence and peace of the description. My boyfriend was coming to join me from England after a two month separation, so it had to be the honeymoon suite.
We had booked for three nights, but such was the enchantment of the place that we returned for three more. John and Valda are wonderful hosts, exciting people to talk to and very accommodating. Our room was on the first floor, overlooking the river and the mountains. It is open plan, with a sensational bath tub towards the rear, and a great open shower with enough room for the whole family to enjoy!! The balcony is a feature in itself - relaxation almost compulsory in this space. We spent hours there chatting, birdwatching, drinking local wines, playing cards. In the evening, we marvelled at the extraordinary sunsets before venturing out to dinner. In the morning, we woke up to birdsong. One word of warning, though. You might find it difficult to leave at the end of your stay!

Room Tip: the written description does not make it 100% obvious that breakfast will not be provided. We recomm...

The setting, right next to a navigable river surrounded by mountains, is sublime. Our hosts, John and Valda, have created a beautiful guesthouse, and thought of everything to please the most discerning visitor. They also strike the right balance between being welcoming, attentive hosts and not fussing or interfering with guests. All kudos to Trip Advisor, as we found Stanford River Lodge through them, and the glowing reviews convinced us to book a weekend there. All true!

Thank you Bernie & John for your kind words, especially coming from an accomplished architect - it means a lot to Valda & I. We so enjoyed meeting John's parents & hope Jack had an environment befitting celebrating his 90th birthday at Stanford River Lodge. What a milestone - we wish him many more & were very proud that you chose to come & celebrate the big day here in Stanford. Regards John

We had a wonderful stay at the Stanford River Lodge over the Easter weekend. Its a situated at beautiful spot next to the river. John and Valda were very helpful and friendly. I definitely recommend it for a quiet getaway. If it wasn't for the rainy weather we would have gladly stayed another night so that we could explore the surrounds.

Room Tip: For a couples I would recommend the Kingfisher room.

Dear Kevin, We are happy you enjoyed your stay with us in spite of the weather but we hope to see you again. It always seems to rain one day on the Easter weekend! but there is so much to do around Stanford it does not really matter. See you soon. Regards John & Valda
