“Great all round and highly recommended”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2012

Great vibe, decor, service and food. Shop whilst you eat or sit next to the fire inside or outside. My partner had an excellent Tbone and my bolognaise was delicious. Well priced, bottle of sparkling water, bottle of wine, 2 mains and 2 desserts at R370

“Searles,Greyton. Waiter there's a pig in my soup!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

Searle’s In Greyton is “Dassiesfontien” meets “Furniture City” Feels like One is a chameleon in a Smarties box. Hygiene and food safety is clearly not a priority when a live pig is allowed to roam the dining room apparently with approval of management. The Chicken pie was really my only choice from a very limited menu a better version is the packet pie found at Zippy’s Greyton’s supermarket.
After a disappointing main course and a 16 minute wait for a slice of stale beetroot cake and what seemed like a micro waved cappuccino the coffee was undrinkable. Trendy Wendy’s would hang out here for the arty farty stuff usually found on watkykjy blog in the “smous jou kak” section.
Not a place I would recommend

“A hodgepodge of items makes an interesting dining venue”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

I was not aware when we first went into Searle's that it had only just opened in December 2011. It looked like it could have been a trading post from bygone days. We had a delightful lunch in the garden. My husband had a chicken pot pie that was served in a cup rather than a pie-tin. He enjoyed it very much as I did my Thai Beef Current with Vegetables. They had counters with South African "sweeties" (candy in the South African vernacular according to our friend Revonika) It is a place that I would have loved to visit more than once.

“Country charm you'll want to return to time and again.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2012

There are quite a few foodie hang outs in Greyton. Most tick quite a few boxes but at Searle's they seem to get it "righter" than the rest. The elclectic ambience is superb and is quite breathtaking at night. The food is exactly what a good country restaurant should be offering - great pizza's, hearty lamb ribs, deeply flavoured bredies and curries that make your mouth water. The winelist lacks a little at the top end but, with locals that tend to have deep pockets and short arms, it fulfills the brief and offers quite a decent selection. I hear that Overberg origin wines will start to take pride of place in the near future and as a locavore this is wonderful news. Hospitality is warm and friendly and most often you'll be greeted by the owners themselves, Naomi and Derek. It's a restaurant that allows for long languid lunches and a proper "kuier" for dinner.

“A dinner to remember...well done "Searles" of Greyton !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2012

A unique and fulfilling culinary experience is a mild description of the fine dining and wonderful evening our family experienced at Searles Trading Post - Greyton.
On Friday 10 August 2012, our family (3 pax) booked for dinner at Searles Trading post, Main Rd., Greyton.
On arrival, given the freezing Overberg temperatures, the warm, cozy country ambiance of the fire-lit dining lounge was most welcoming...
My tempura prawn (Tiger portion) was absolutely amazing, tasty, freshly cooked. The main course of 250g, Teriyaki seared to-perfection Tuna steak on a generous bed of Wasabi mashed potatoe garnished with crisp Coriander and balsamic reduction was a meal never to be-forgotton.
Crepes with caramalised apple and a rich cuppaccino rounded off a dining experience never to be- forgotton.

Searles is a site to behold, the excellent engaging service, the lovely location and the incredible culinary experience...

Well worth the visit...well done Derek & Naomi you have set a fine dining Standard which is hard to beat !
