Just returned from Djerba les Dunes Hotel and although I tend to read reviews before booking I was very wise to ignore those posts by other UK visitors. Obviously the clientele here are mainly European, rather than British, and to be fair this was one reason I chose this hotel being wary of the 'brits abroad' syndrome I have experienced in the past. Yes I'm sure I will be subjected to much derision for this view, however the hotel exceeded my expectations. The rooms are clean and airy, large bathroom and nice terrace. Actually our allocated room on the ground floor by the pool I felt was a bit too close to the action and the manager readily changed this for a higher floor with no fuss at all. We chose half board rather than 'all inclusive' as we planned not to be hotel based for our stay. We are vegetarian and the choice of food at breakfast and dinner was brilliant. Freshly prepared and plentiful choice of hot and cold dishes.
Although we were the only Brits in the hotel the staff were helpful, friendly and very cheerful. We only watched one of the shows put on by the 'animation' team which was very impressive given the guys work so hard all day. I'm sure the majority of French guests enjoyed the entertainment laid on nightly. I would also like to mention the bar and restaurant on the beach which is attached to the hotel, La Paillote, lovely service, nice freshly prepared food and a great location right on the beach. An ideal place to spend a 'do nothing but relax' holiday. Recommended.
