“We felt so welcome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2014

The staff made this wonderful place so special. Barbara and Sarah were so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Our room was ideal nestling in the wonderful garden and close to the restaurant and infinity pool. Food was great and it was a great base for exploring the unique island of Naxos where we found so many friendly people and such good value; never ripped off once. A great holiday; thanks

Naxos Hotel Kavos is clearly well-loved by its guests (just read some of the reviews here) and this affection is equally clearly well-deserved.

From making the original booking to a special request for roses in the room upon arrival, Manager Barbara could not have been more helpful or efficient. The hotel's rooms nestle gently into the side of a hill, strewn with an apparently organic carelessness that belies the great views and privacy that this layout endows. The gardens are full of flowers, shrubs, herbs, fruits and vegetables (courgettes, tomatoes, aubergines, apricots, lemons...) in a delightful and aromatic tumble of colour and foliage that surrounds the paths up to the accommodation.

The rooms were spotless, well-equipped and very comfortable with a kind of Mediterranean Country chic about their style. The bathrooms were of a very high quality and the air-conditioning (barely needed in early June) all but silent.

The hotel folds itself around a lovely pool and seating area and the high vantage point gives broad views out over the Aegean. A new removable glass wall opens the bar/restaurant to the pool area but can be closed on those occasional inclement days one sometimes gets at each end of a season.

So, the hotel is lovely. The jewels here though are the staff. Barbara runs things with a light and steady touch and has gathered a wonderful team around her. From the cheerful and friendly staff who clean and maintain the rooms to the more visible people in the hotel bar and restaurant, everyone was clearly very happy to go out of their way to make guests feel welcome. Sarah and Sotiris looked after the bar and front of house beautifully. Ask Sarah about the horse sanctuary-cum-riding stable that she also works for, especially if you fancy riding along the beach.

The other star is chef Kostas who excels in presenting Greek classics with a modern flair. Nothing seems too much for him and he is happy to 'do requests' with a little notice. My partner Darcy mentioned how much she loved stuffed courgette flowers. Lo and behold, a few days later she was presented with a plate of delicious stuffed flowers with apologies for the delay - " I had to wait for the sun to make the flowers open".

Naxos is a lovely island from its old town to the mountains in the centre and the isolated coastal villages (most with Tavernas) on the far side of them. A hire car will allow you to explore at your own pace and at relatively little cost.

Tips? You should be aware that several of the hotel's rooms are reached via steps and a steep-ish path. There are some rooms that have much easier access but I'd advise you to talk to Barbara before booking if this might be a problem for you. There is a small airport on Naxos with a flight time of about 25 minutes to Athens. Personally I find this much more fun and convenient than spending several hours on a crowded ferry, but seats are limited so book well in advance.

In summary, you really can't go wrong at this wonderful hotel so do yourself a favour and book now!

The hotel is very beautiful and Barbara couldn't be more attentive!
There is a wonderful garden in front of the rooms, very fragrant, full of beautiful roses and herbs! The rooms are delightful, very clean and nicely decorated. The porch in front of them offers a wonderful sea view! Everything is new and good quality and Barbara will prepare each room with beatiful flowers from her garden and lavender on top of your towels!
Breakfast is served next to the pool. Wonderful view and very good range of choice: freshly squeezed juice, coffee, jam, cheese, fruit, bread...
Barbara gave us good advice about the best villages and provided a rent a car service for us.
We would definitely come back!

This was the third time we've stayed here, and each time it gets better. We stayed in a two-bedroom villa. It had new windows, and the windows had screens, which meant we could keep them open and we didn't have to worry about bugs and we almost never used the air conditioning. The restaurant menu was great, and it changed every evening depending on what was fresh from the market and sea. The staff was friendly and helpful. The pool was very nice, and the grounds were full of colorful flowers. We will definitely return in the future!

Amazing hotel up on the hill in Agios Prokopios, recommended to us from reviews. Barbara was a great host, and all the staff were lovely. Room was fantastic, set in beautiful gardens, with animals running around (you'll definitely experience the Naxos cats here). Gorgeous pool.

Only downside is the walk back up the hill if you head down to the beach/village. Recommend getting a rental car if staying here. Great for a few days escape.

Room Tip: All rooms are lovely

We were made completely at home during our 6 day stay in Kavos. Barbara was the perfect hostess with knowledge to guide the new visitor. Susan was a delight at breakfast and the food was healthy... rich in local yoghurt and honey. We left the stresses of the world behind and chilled out.
We went walking in the mountains with Stella the mountain guide...fantastic and she is so knowledgeable about the environment, topography and wild herbs. We would strongly recommend a visit to the island of Naxos and this is an excellent base to stay even if it is 10-15 minutes from town by cab

Room Tip: we had a seaview room which was excellent

A very lovely and peaceful location. Great views of the ocean and sunsets when you are in the restaurant. The gardens are beautiful and very well maintained: great choice of Roses, lots of lfowers, and many PalmTrees.
A beautiful setup,so relaxing.
The villas are extremely comfortable. We had 2 bedrooms , two bathrooms and a living room.
Perfect accommodation and a terrace with great view of the sea and the mountains.
The
The restaurant by the swimming pool has to be recommended.
The service was good and friendly ( Thanks to Sotiris). The chef, offered us some great menus. The food was always very fresh, well presented and very tasty ( Thanks to Kostas.
The beautiful beach is only 20 minutes walk and 5 minutes by car. Wonderful crystal clear water, and beach so clean.
But I would not finish this review without speaking about our host Barbara. She was a great host and was always there to help us. She was very efficient. If we needed any advice, recommendation or suggestion, she would always guide us. She always had time for her guests .We felt very welcome in Kavos Hotel. We had a great time.Thank you so much Barbara and thanks to your team ( Sarah, Sotiris and Kostas)
