Well, what a pleasant surprise. After reading the reviews on here about peoples nightmares when it came to the hotel honouring bookings upon arrival (especially Groupon bookings like ours) i was a bit worried that a 7 night half board stay here for £279 was turning out to be too good to be true. I called the hotel the day before we travelled to check our booking was still on their system, and it was.
Upon arrival we were given a drink of our choice each (their wine by the glass is massive!) and we were shown to our room by a very friendly receptionist.
The hotel is set in a very quiet area, literally 30 seconds walk from the beah. Staying at this hotel is a very peaceful experience, and the hotel has a very chilled out feel to it. Most people who were staying at the hotel the same time as us seemed to sit around the pool all day, or lay at the beach all day sunbathing. We couldnt do this for more than an hour at a time, so we went exploring in our convertible (car hire is a must if you want to do anything other than lounge around the hotel all day). We managed to see some spectacular places and go on a glass bottomed boat / snorkelling (Look up Captain Nicks Glass Bottom Boat in Chania - HIGHLY recommended!).
The food served at the hotel was the best food we had tasted in Crete. We initially wernt impressed with it, but after eating out for lunch and one evening meal we realised that the hotel food was by far the best (Cretan food really isnt that good; we even tried some of the tavernas people have recommended in their reviews on here and we found them to be pretty poor when compared to the hotel). Whatever you do, dont go to Nickoforos (or however it is spelt) taverna, which was recommended on another review on here. My fiancee was sick all night after eating their "fresh" seafood salad.
To reply to some of the other people's comments on here:
The shower room is actually a semi-wetroom; the floor is tiled and has a drain in the floor, so the fact the shower curtain let water escape doesnt actually matter.
We flushed toilet paper down our toilet like we do in the UK and had no problems at all, so im not sure what the problem is with the person who experienced difficulties?
The beach is pebbly, but it says this all over their website, so anyone who is disappointed by it should do their research first.
"Canned overloud music" - There was music being piped to the pool bar and the restaurant area but nowhere else. And it was by non-original artists, but I wouldnt say it was tacky and it certainly wasnt loud.
There is a building site next door. For the week we stayed, although there were builders working at the site, they werent very noisy and they didnt stay long (typical cretans!). And to be honest, from what we saw of Crete, the whole island is very much a work in progress; there are building sites all over the place, some of them look like they have been left half built and then left to deteriorate. Its just the nature of the island.
Overall, this Hotel is ideal as a base for travelling, but i wouldnt want to be caught out without a car here because there is literally nothing to do except sunbathe and swim.
Double rooms dont seem to exist, as per my review, they are single beds pushed together but still ha...
