“A great place to relax and enjoy Krete”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2012

We are just back from a week stay at Chryssana. We booked through Voyage Prive without even knowing were exactly the hotel was, but as per past experiences with Voyage Prive, quality is guaranteed. And it certainly was the case with Chryssana.
It all was perfect: very clean rooms, helpful and kind staff, a good buffet breakfast, a large pool to swim and refresh with comfortable sunbeds and umbrellas. Very quiet atmosphere (indeed, Kolimbari is a quiet small village). It was a good location to do trips (Chania city is 30min by car, Falassarna Beach is 30min by car, Elafonisi Beach is 1h20m by car, etc). Of course you need to rent a car in Krete. In Kolimbari there are a few good, inexpensive restaurants; we followed the advise from the hotel staff.
You can't get it wrong at Chryssana; we had the holiday we were looking for.

Several people at a conference in kolymvari had reservations that were not honored by the hotel. The manager Anna did try to help us find alternate lodging, but did not offer anything for essentially losing our reservation that was made with hotels.com
If you want to stay there make reservations by telephone only do NOT trust the online system on their website or travel websites

Upon arrival we were med by smiling faces and a thought through welcome procedure. Check in time was at 2pm but we had to wait until 2:45 until our "family room" for two adults and two children (7/9yrs) was ready.

We were surprised and a little disappointed to find that the family room turned out to be two double rooms without interconnecting door?

However, this is overall a nice and calm little hotel with good service, excellent design and it's very clean.

The photographer who took the official resort photos was a genious. It's not THAT nice. But is it ever?

Be aware of:
- there is really nothing to explore nearby apart from the beach unless you are willing to go for a 20 min walk
- the beach is pebble
- get a rental car - fantastic excursions to Balos or Elafonisi are possible
- not a Kids Club type of place.

To be improved at this hotel:
- breakfast variety; same every day
- the WiFi is crap. But the claim that an upgrade is underway
- bathrooms are clean but need an upgrade
- the pool towel administration as well as poolside service in general can be improved

This said - we enjoyed our stay very much and got good value for money. With some simple improvements it could have been fantastic.

I do not normally write reviews, but do use trip advisor for information and wanted to review this hotel.
We booked a week via groupon, so got a very good price.
The hotel is fantastic, it is clean and very well maintained by all it's staff. The pool area is impeccably clean and a pleasure to have a few hours sun bathing. The pool itself isn't available, until after 10am, because of maintenance and this possibly should be looked t, as we do like an early morning swim before breakfast.
We had a house maid, who was outstanding and couldn't do enough.Everywhere is clean and well appointed. The bathrooms are a little dated but still good or Greek standards. I believe they are due for refurb next year.
The reception manager and staff are brilliant - simple as that. Their assistance in us discovering this beautiful unspoilt coast of Crete was excellent.
The waiting staff ( even though rushed of their feet sometimes) work hard and do a great job.
The food is good, not extensive in choice but we at out a number of times, this made an ok change.
Breakfast also is very good and well prepared by a very pleasant older Greek lady.

Other reviews are correct, it is isolated, but brilliant for rest and relaxation in a quality place ( which we needed after just having a week with neilson on a sailing activity with 2 sons.
We hired a car from sunny rentals at 230 euros- no excesses for the week. It was a one year old car and ideal for the week. It is nearly essential to have a car, not just because of the hotel's location but to explore this beautiful part of the island. We had 5 days out to some fantastic beaches.

This is a superb place for relaxing, if you want night entertainment or bars to go to at night, this quiet area is probably not for you.
I definitely recommend it, and even though normally I don't go back to same places even when
they are this good, I may grab a week there again.

Room Tip: We had a first floor room( it is only ground and first) and the view was fantastic

We booked this hotel, half-board via GroupOn.

The first issue we encountered was that we were given twin beds even though our deal ensured a "double room." Apparently we had to email the hotel in advance asking for a double bed, who would have thought a man and wife on holiday would have wanted to stay in a double bed!

The hotel rooms were of a good standard, clean and good a/c. Although I never really understood why the cleaner wouldn't clean our glasses. Also the TVs were basic with no remote control, which was annoying.

The pool areas is nice, although again the annoyance was more to do with the fact that pool areas were open from 10am to 7(ish) PM, as we wanted to get in to the pool early for a swim.

The quality of the staff was really mixed too. The manageress was excellent and couldn't be more helpful. Her deputy was helpful too, however the junior girl on reception was absolutely useless and kept giving us the wrong times for our day trips. One incident saw us waiting in the heat for our 9am pick up when in fact it was for 9.50am (please ensure they give you the booking receipt when going ona day trip.) The same person also told us to be ready at 5am for our Knossos day trip when the pick up wasn’t until 6.55am!

The area that the hotel is situated in, is just outside of Kolymbari, and was pretty isolated, the most interesting thing in the area was the Carrefour supermarket! Walk 10 minutes down the lonely country road and this took you in to Kolymbari. There were lots of restaurants in the area all serving up good quality food, generous portions at fair prices. I’d really recommend eating here, and the Argentina restaurant is excellent.

The main thing about staying here is that you need a car, otherwise there's nowhere to escape to. We paid for day trips to the Knossos ruins (not worth it), a trip to the Balos lagoon (well worth it) and got the bus to Chania (the Venetian style back-streets are beautiful). However if you don’t have a car you have to walk in the heat, and I can assure you it was HOT!

All in all it felt like this hotel was really still in it's embryonic stages of it's lifecycle. There were lots and lots of small improvements that can be made to this hotel, for example having a well stocked bar, happy hour or even a cocktail list, and added to that some evening entertainment would be appreciated just as there is nowhere to go or nothing to see in the evening in the area. It's the small touches that really make an enjoyable experience at a hotel and none of these small touches were there.

All in all an uninspiring hotel, and you MUST rent a car to escape the area's boredom to get the best out of staying here.

Room Tip: Make sure you have a car! Also it's worth doing the walk to Kolymbari, and eating at the restaur...

We stayed a week in this beautiful hotel, situated on the seafront in a quiet environment. Not far from hotel there is a bus stop and for little money you can go to Chania, the most beautiful beach Elafonisi, busy neighborhood Pataia etc.
Hotel is small, clean and beautiful. Food is very tasty and is served at your table. Every day you have a choice of dishes. All the staff is very friendly

Spent 5days at this lovely hotel in Crete, super clean, great staff and a good menu.
Its away from the main roads which suited us fine and I recommend you hire a car for easy access in order to explore all the beaches and sights of Chania.

We're planning to go back in summer 2013 with our whole family!!!
