Having stayed at this hotel a few years earlier, it was always a wish to go back: mistake! It was luxurious and well maintained previously where staff were courteous and valued their guests. The food was amazing and nothing a problem. This time, on checking in, the girl on reception said one of the guys would show us to our room. He shrugged and mumbled something, she then said reluctantly, "I will show you to your room". Previously we had stayed in the main building but this time we were outside in one of the suites. Not offered help with our luggage, we trundled up and down steps to get there. We asked if there was parking nearer to the room and she pointed to spaces near where we were parked already! We were pleased initially with the room which was quite spacious. The pool outside was green, slimy and closed. On the second day nothing was replenished in the bathroom.
We stayed two nights and ate in the restaurant which was previously wonderful. Not so this time. The food was bland and uninspiring, (frozen carrots), It was obviously mass produced for the coach loads that turned up both nights. If we ate after 8.00, we were shown to a grubby table that had already been used with wine stains on the cover.
Only 2 of the staff were helpful and pleasant during our visit, the rest looked like they just left the gym, wearing trainers throughout our visit and wearing the same clothes, they couldn't care less for customers. Breakfast was help yourself to everything, even tea and coffee. If we went to the bar for a drink, there was no urgency to serve us. On the last night when leaving the restaurant to walk back to our room, two of the staff (male and female) were in a passionate embrace and kissing behind reception. He had gone and pulled her from behind the bar! These young people who are left to run this hotel need some training in customer service and respect, of which they have neither. A very sad decline for a once splendid hotel!
- Also Known As:
- Relais Il Canalicchio Di Collazzone
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Relais Il Canalicchio stands like a small gem inset into the summit of a hill. The picturesque town built around the Castello di Poggio, which dates to the 10th-11th centuries, dominates the town with its imposing tower and a splendid little church close to the vineyards and olive groves at the centre of the lush Umbrian countryside. The luxury Relais has almost completely remodeled and enclosed the town of Canalicchio, an intact and resplendent oasis of peace, where only the twittering of birds interrupts the relaxing stillness. Inside, the historic and rural origins of the place are obvious; it still has its apparent castle-like structure and boasts an enormous and exquisite millstone, the old press and some lovely arches, evoking the enchanting atmosphere and charm of times gone by. ... more less
