“great for skier”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

I was surprised how close is hotel situated to the skilift to the top of Marmolada. It was very comfi put skiboots on at the hotel and go 50 m to the skilift. We spent at this hotel 2 nights. Room and bedroom were clean. We had breakfast and dinner and both of them was classic. Buffet breakfast and 3course dinner with vegetable bar which is still refill as well as breakfast buffet. Well the staff looked sometimes that they did it for the first time but food was quite good. We were at sauna and I donť think that is not clean. Sauna was OK. Unfortunately there is nothing about hotel, no restaurants, no bars.

The hotel is quite large, but the equipment comes from the 70 years. It also includes a wellness center, but his background probably has not seen for a long time handyman. Overall not look at you as a customer, but as a number on the list. Skilift on the top of Marmolada, is not enough compensation for service and equipment of the hotel.

The hotel is situated in Malga Ciapela, but that's no real village. It basically consists of the hotel and some houses around it. Big plus is that the skilift to the top of the Marmolada gletcher is located right in front of the hotel, which means that you can step out of the hotel's ski storing cellar (with boot dryers!) and hop right into the ski lift. Big warning: this is also the only skilift you can take from this hotel, which means it's absolutely no good for beginners!

The hotel itself is quite large, but the furnishing dates from the 70's. Clean but outdated and a bit shabby.
Same goes for the room: it was spacious and the bed was fine, but our room only had 2 tiny roof windows and a bathroom that was approx. 1m2. Much too small for a room with 3 beds!

Staff was friendly, but no more.
The food was OK, no fine cuisine but rather heavy and hearty. Make sure you go to the dining room on time, because the antipasti buffet is emptied quickly and they don't refill it.
There is a large and cosy bar, the TV room however is really cheerless and looks even older than the rest of the hotel.

I don't think I'll ever return here, I'd rather stay in a town nearby, like Arabba, where you have other restaurants and sunny terrasses around, and a bit more life.

We have finished our stay in the beautiful Dolomites in summer with one night at the hotel Principe Marmolada. Our room had just a window in the roof, which was not pleasant at all. The hotel is very big, and looks a little bit like the hotels you could find in the former Soviet Union !
Regarding the dinner, the food was acceptable, but the service was linked to many groups. All in all, in this hotel you are not a customer but a number.
