We have just returned from an excellent holiday at Lake Garda at the Galeazzi Hotel, Gardonne Riviera, Lake Garda. The Hotel was excellent. I would recommend this for a great holiday. The food was excellent and it was Full Board Plus (ie there was afternoon tea, packed lunch, and tea/coffee all day if you wanted it). Aperitif and canapés, and wine at dinner were also included in the excellent price. The staff were very friendly and attentive.

Well what a lovely surprise when we arrived. Very pretty and so clean. The grounds are immaculate and the rooms are comfy with great beds! I haven't been on a hotel holiday for 5 years after lots of bad experiences but this has restored my faith. The staff are wonderful and the manager makes you feel as if you are a guest in her own home. Loved the chalet style, which skiers will be familiar with, the food was consistently good with plenty of free flowing wine! I would recommend this hotel to anyone and we will return. The road is noisy but it is the main road round the lake but it wasn't a problem. Within walking distance of Salo and Gardone and bus stops are very convenient. 'Charming' would sum it up for me!

We hadn't planned to take our family holiday at the Galeazzi. We'd booked to stay elsewhere on Lake Garda but Inghams cocked up the booking (they told us 4 days before we were to fly that the hotel we booked wasn't available!). After a couple of days of panic they came up with The Galeazzi and, given that it looked a better option than the two inferior ones we were offered, we accepted with some reluctance. On balance we're glad we did.

Most of the positives have been mentioned elsewhere on Trip Advisor. The staff pull together to offer a good, friendly level of service, The hotel is comfortable - but does need some upgrading (the bathrooms). The smaller touches like the 7pm aperitifs, afternoon tea, etc. are welcome. The pool is a good size. We found the food excellent, OK it wasn't very "Italian" but it was imaginative and well presented. The boat trip to Sirmione was fun.

However, as has also been mentioned, the road passing the hotel is bloody noisy! All day! There's not too much "happening" in the area immediately around the hotel (compared with the "buzz" in places like Malcesine (where we'd originally booked to go - thanks Inghams!). We usually hire a car if we want to explore but car hire in the area seems to be non existent so against our better judgment, we booked several coach trips. We certainly won't be doing that again in a hurry. Pick ups from other hotels could occupy up to 2 hours of the total trip (and set downs the same) and even the idiosyncrasies of the couriers wore a bit thin after a time.

On balance we had a good holiday and introduction to Lake Garda. Not sure that we'd go back to the Galeazzi as we'd rather see other areas in the Italian Lakes.

Since our return we've had nothing from Inghams by way of apology, offer of compensation, etc. Just a suggestion that we comment on Trip Advisor - so here it is.

Room Tip: Because we had a "late" booking the four of us stayed in a total of 5 different rooms in...

Had a great holiday at this hotel and met some very nice people. The staff could not do enough and some of the criticism of the surroundings while perhaps true but the hotel had just been taken over by Inghams and they can't be expected to do everything overnight. The main thing is all the staff are extremely helpful. If you want a 5* star hotel I think you will have to pay considerable more and for what was on offer it was great value for money. I don't think it would have the same appeal if was all glitzy and new. I note the comments of Italian food but if prospective travellers had read the brochure they should have known what to expect. I've been to many hotels in Italy and while the food was 'Italian' it wasn't that wonderful the only exception being the Hotel Excelsior in Garda which was double the price of the Galeazzi so well done to the at this hotel!

Room Tip: We had room 208 which was spacious

We absolutely loved our 4-day stay at the Galeazzi and cannot recommend it highly enough. The rooms and public areas are very comfortable and cleaned to a high standard, all the staff are extremely friendly, polite and efficient, and the food is fantastic and of a very high standard, with a great deal of variety. Most unusually, the Manager – Rosanna - who is charming and makes all her guests feel welcome and of value, ensures that she gets to talk to each and every guest and is there both to welcome you on arrival and wave you off as you depart. She is also always on hand during your stay should you need help or advice. Our stay in this hotel helped enormously to make our visit to Lake Garda both magical and memorable and we hope very much to return to the Galeazzi. Diana & David Morris 7-11 September 2013

Room Tip: Room 405 is large, comfortable, and has fantastic views of the lake

Excellent friendly genuine service. Yes, it is all very British but If you appreciate that when you book, it is not a problem.

Rosanna was very welcoming and happy to offer local advice.

The menu was excellent but more suited to an adult taste. A more child friendly option would improve things.

Arriving on September 4th after a very early start in the UK we were met off the coach by Rosanna the manager, not only did she warmly welcome us, she even wheeled somebody's case across the road .In all of the Hotels I have stayed in I have never been met off the airport transit by by the manager, a gesture warmly appreciated. The hotel in its first year of Inghams management is rather worn but not shabby and I am sure it will be updated in future years. The overriding feature of our short stay was the enthusiasm of all staff unlike most in the service industry there first answer was usually yes. I would strongly recommend this hotel what the building lacks in style is more than compensated by price and excellent service.

Room Tip: If possible away from the road
