“Highlight is the Semi-Private Hot Tub!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2011

The highlight of staying here, hands down, is that each unit has its own hot tub. From this hot tub, there is a beautiful panoramic view of the ocean, mountains, and in the distance you can see Snæfellsjökull Glacier perched up in the mountains. We brought a bottle of wine that we enjoyed in the tub. (NOTE: you can only buy alcohol in Iceland in regulated stores located in major cities so this takes some planning)

The room had the feel of a ski condo. There were three rooms in our unit with everyone sharing a central bath, kitchen, and living room. The bathroom is very small with no counter space.

Our unit was full and it appeared from the parking and hot tub activity that the owners had attempted to fill the rooms of each unit before opening a new one, so you will likely have condo-mates.

The units are all in a locker-row line, there are partitions on the patios between the units providing privacy.

Check-in was restrictive. It was in a little office hut and only open for a certain period each afternoon.

Note it's a long drive to the closest restaurant or gas station, so plan dinner and breakfast accordingly.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2011

This place was great, especially as it is the cheapest option in the immediate area. The owner lives in the first unti. Be aware, however, these are not private "hotel" rooms with your own private bathrooms. Four separate bedrooms share a living area, kitchen and back patio with a hot-tub (with excellent views of Snaefellsjokul!!). They don't do dinner, which is sort of a bummer. Hotel Langholt is just down the road (next door practically) and has dinner, but it's pretty darn expensive (but good), even for the Icelandic countryside. Guesthouse Hof does breakfast by request; it consists of sliced bread for toast, assorted jams, coffee, milk, juice, Cheerios, assorted lunch meats and cheese, and sliced veggies (bellpepper, tomatoes, cucumbers..). A decent breakfast, but I wish the portions were just slightly larger. All in all, a great place to stay and meet fellow travelers; just be aware that there's nothing in the area between "cheap" and "expensive". If there were, this review would be a little different i think.

PS-Bring some snacks; there's no corner stores out there if you get peckish. Also, i noticed some single-unit cabins being built. Not sure when these will be open for business.

Each pair of rooms share a bathroom, kitchen, and commom room plus a veranda with picnic table, grill, and hot tub. The bedroom and bath are functional, the small kitchen (full size refrigerator) is fairly well stocked with dishes and cookware, and the common area is roomy. One should stay here for what is outside and not the inside, however. The view from the veranda and hot tub, of the beach and Snaefellsjokull, is magnificent.
