“Disappointing Stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

the service is really bad....and so slow ....it takes forever for you to be checked in like they didnt know you are coming....those who clean the rooms really do a lousy job hardly change the sheets ...guess its expected when almost all service staff are elderly ....as a guest you are treated like a bother....

I stayed 3 times in the Berjaya, because its close to Victoria where I have business partners.
The hotel must be over 20 years old and it shows!

Rooms:
The standard rooms have been refurbished with very basic low quality furniture in dark brown and beige colors. Not really friendly for a beach hotel! The refurbished bathrooms have a large shower with glass separation, which looks good and modern. The lighting in the room and in the bathroom is not sufficient.

Public areas:
Public areas and restaurants are ok for a 3 star hotel, however the Berjaya is rated 4 stars.
The pool is small by todays standard.

Beach:
this is the highlight of the hotel as it is directly on a large beach with large trees giving shade.
There are not enough beach chairs for all guests.

Food:
Breakfast is far below todays standard for 4 star hotels in terms of quality and selection.
Dinner is always buffet style with different themes (Asia, French, Italian etc). The food is more like cantina food, cooked and presented without love and care. There is a separate restaurant serving Chinese food, requires booking ahead. The pool bar serves acceptable fast food.

Service:
Staff is not very friendly and the service in the pool bar is terrible. The fat waitress could not be bothered.

Overall:
There are better hotels in Seychelles. This is 3 stars at best.

Berjaya is in a great location and the beach is beautiful. That is where the positives end!

There is so much that needs improvement in this hotel that it is hard to list it all. Firstly, I have never felt less welcomed in a hotel in all my life. From check-in to dining we felt as though any question or request we had were a major inconvenience on the staff, to the point where we stopped asking for assistance which affected our Island experience.

The rooms are outdated and not clean, we had a view out to a rusty roof and cob web drabbed outer windows. The bathroom had barely any lighting and the TV was either frozen or we couldn't get the remote to work. The lobby and hallway areas are like a 1980's high school with stale smelling stairwells and outdated decor.

Despite trying to converse and be friendly with staff we could barely get a word from the majority of them and they would often listen to our question and then rudely cut off our sentence and start talking amongst one another in Creole whilst ignoring us, we felt like the kids at school being teased. The check-in staff were very rude and gave no guidance or assistance. On check out we paid our final bill and completed the paper work, we then took the key to retrieve our bags and when dropping it back were told by the same lady we must do our check out paper work (we had done it with her 2 mins prior), obviously illustrating she did not even look at us while serving us which was a common theme with staff.

The Indian restaurant was great, the pizzeria was good for a nice lunch while looking over the beach, the buffet was terrible and cost 1300SR for dinner , we complained about the quality and extreme price and were told it was 900SR for us with a voucher book that we were not given on check in. This was still a redicilous price for some very average food.

We felt extremely unwelcome at Burjaya and would never return or recommend this hotel. I would consider it good for 1/4 of the price due to it's great location..

We were so dissapointed to have our Seychelles experienced tainted by the people who we thought would be so lovely when we booked this holiday. AVOID!!

If you are looking for a reasonably priced hotel to stay at in the Seychelles the Berjaya provides excellent accommodation. We stayed in a standard room which provided adequate space for two adults and my fourteen year old daughter. The room was basic (simular to a premier inn) with an en-suit shower. The fridge provided was very useful for keeping cool drinks purchased from local shops. The hotel was very clean and the staff were always pleasant. The hotel is in lush gardens and has direct access to the beach and is probably situated at the best location on Beau Vallon Beach. It benefits from a good size pool and plenty of sun loungers. My husband used the dive centre attached to the hotel and found it to be very good. We also found snorkelling on Beau Vallon Beach to be some of the best on the island. The breakfast at the hotel is a buffet which caters for all tastes and you can easily eat enough to take you through to dinner. The restaurants at the hotel are good and there are plenty of others dotted alone the beach to try.

A free bus is provided by the hotel daily to Victoria which is very useful.

If you are looking for a relaxing holiday in the Seychelles at a reasonable price I would highly recommend this hotel.

After reading the reviews I wanted to cancel my reservation in this hotel, but I didn't and we spend one week there. It's a nice hotel with maybe best part of the Beau Vallon beach. And it is great value for money - we paid only 630 EUR (a great deal provided by our tour operator) for a standart double room bed and breakfast for 7 nights, and you already know that Seychelles are pretty expensive.

The room: I think it was newly refurbished, the bed was very comfortable, we had also sofa bed and table with chairs. No balcony unfortunately, but big windows overlooking the garden with tropical trees. The bathroom was not big, but it was also ok. We had coffee maker with complementary instant coffee and tea, and also 2 complementary waters per day. So, don't expect much from the standard rooms, they are comfortable enough without any luxury.

The beach: it is awesome! Its in the middle of the bay - with large spread of white sand under the shadows of the huge tropical trees. And it's not crowded at all, you may always find place and be provided a long chair. I think the beach service and the beach spot were great, comparing to the other hotels near by.

The restaurants: the breakfast is average - tropical fruits, egg corner, some meals. The coffee is awful. We had several dinners in the pizzeria. It has a great location, right on the beach. The food there is average, the pizza has nothing in common with the Italian pizza. We very much liked the smoked marlin, the samosas, the garlic bread, the fish was also ok, the wine was also good. And it's not so expensive as other restaurants in the island. We didn't try the other restaurants.

The bars: they were invisible and boring, especially in the evenings. No entertainment at all.

The staff was very polite and reacted immediately. The check-in was very fast, the check out also. We had a problem to find a taxi on the check-out, the lady on the reception was calling different taxi drivers and they were refusing, we almost missed the jetty to Praslin. Then I asked the ladies - representatives of the different tour operators and they find us a taxi immediately. So - book the taxi in advance!

There was also a free shuttle every morning to Victoria.

No free WiFi - and very expensive.

Some other tips on the Seychelles:
taxi - it is expensive: the transfer from the airport is 600 Rupees, which is about 40EUR; the transfer to the jetty is 250 Rupees.
exchange rates - it is better to exchange money in the exchange offices, there is one near the hotel.
the Jetty Cat Cocos - it was awful!!! We bought tickets to Praslin. The sea is rough this period of the year, and it was scary and very uncomfortable - both on the way to and back. Everybody was vomiting, while on the speakers somebody was telling was that this high-speed jetty is paradise. It's better to have a plane transfer.
the restaurants nearby - there very nice restaurants nearby - 5-10 minutes walk on the beach.

As a whole this hotel is not a bad choice if you don't expect luxury.

Room Tip: the chalets looked very good but there is a reconstruction of a hotel next to them, so if you book a...

We arrived in Seychelles from a one week stay in Mauritius at La Pirogue, after one incredible week and the best service received.

The disappointment were written all over our faces upon checking in to what felt like a hostel or student accommodation. We informed reception a day before and highlighted our requirements, I am not sure who were more surprised upon receiving us the staff or us, the rooms weren't ready. Rates that was send to us via email was incorrect, we ended up having a dispute in the lobby 11pm at night. My father had received business rates at the hotel, and I have received industry rates, the later were better priced but they refused to honor these rates. I have never been treated bad by any GM at hotels, being involved in the hotel industry myself I was shocked. Managers are supposed to resolve issues or offer alternative solutions not leave guests feeling unwelcome and humiliated. They were suppose to come back to us the next day with a solution, but never did. The rooms were dirty, I found hair on our bed and crumbs under the table glass top. The previous guests wine and pizza were left in the fridge and the phones were sticky. We were hesitant to eat at the hotel, due to hygienic conditions. Except for the front desk and GM the remaining staff were very friendly and helpful. The pool and beach are nice, but I would never go back to this hotel. Coming from Dubai and compared to our standards this was a 2 star. Images are misleading and does not reflect the true conditions of this hotel. Even the reception area was dirty and in need of maintenance. The only attraction point here was the turtle camp outside the property which my daughter loved visiting.

We left for La Digue 3 days later and fortunately had the best time at Le domaine de l'orangeraie!!! A definate recommendation.

Room Tip: If you HAVE to stay here, request for a Garden Villa room or make sure you have a balcony. The sea f...
