We booked the first 4 nights of our stay in Tobago at Castara Retreats. The website is very good but it didn't prepare us for what to expect. We were in awe of the place and I would wake early every day to make the most of seeing Castara from the luxury of our living room sofa.
Upon reflection we would have liked to stay there for the full 2 weeks but having said that we also had a fantastic experiences at the next place we stayed so that was lucky - and we kept re-visiting as we liked the people who work there so much.
We booked the Rainforest room and had the most spectacular 290 degrees view of the gardens and bay. We love tropical birds and they were so close that often they would be in the living room! We saw more different kinds of birds from our living room than the rest of our entire stay in Tobago so our binoculars were always at hand. The tiny parrots were my favourite.
Everyone was friendly and helpful and we enjoying talking with them. We give our best wishes to Kenny, Patricia, Marcello, little one,Jeanelle, Porridge, Gillian and Wesley (hope I have not missed anyone out).
Patricia's food was fantastic and we hope that it will become ever more popular.
If it wasn't for Porridge sorting out a car for us at short notice and at Christmas then we would have missed seeing Tobago and the beautiful delights of Charlottesville, Pirates Bay, Bucco Bay etc, etc. He is deservedly well known in Tobago and such a lovely guy. Thank you so much Porridge!
We have very fond memories of Castara Retreats.
Asking Bingi the Fruit King for a coconut to drink proved fruitful and we would often buy fruit and other provisions from his small but well stocked shop near the road to Little (Heavenly) Bay.
We unfortunately missed out on buying bread from the local ladies of Castara.
As a little town, I think that Castara is probably the best that we visited in Tobago and the philosophy of Castara Retreats, encouraging those that stay to shop locally and visit local restaurants etc is very commendable.
We love the fact that Castra Retreats is nestled into a quiet end of the hills around the bay and that it blends in well with the environment. It is luxury yet wonderfully understated. Guests have privacy yet wonderful company is at hand.
The accommodation is so well thought out and everything you could wish for and more has been provided.
It is unlikely that we will return to Tobago because whilst we loved our time there, there is so much more of the world to see but if we do return, we will DEFINITELY be returning to Castara Retreats.
With love and best wishes
