“The Ice Cream”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2013

We stopped her solely for their famous homemade ice cream after a long day of driving and hiking. I had dandelion flavored ice cream, which I have never had before. It sounds strange but was honestly the best ice cream i have ever had in my life. If you are in the area, then stopping here for a treat is a must. It is not far from Jokulsarlon and on the way to Hofn. The people that run this place are also very nice and friendly!

Room Tip: get the Dandelion ice cream

--Beautiful room. Spacious with a bathroom. Very new. Pretty view. Very large windows.
--Management kindly sent a left-behind charger to our next Iceland destination
--Nice kitchen area for storing food. Just a fridge, not a freezer, but management stored our ice packs in their freezer
--Very decent buffet breakfast, including fruit and hard-boiled eggs
--I would not recommend paying the extra to eat dinner there----dinner was over-salted and over- peppered. The fish was overcooked.

Room Tip: Room 116 was at the end of the hallway and very nice and quiet.

My stop here was simply to sample the homemade Icecream. It was a welcome break after a long drive and a series of glacier walks.

Icecream was good though not exceptional, dandilion flavor was a novelty to me, as was strawberry with papaya chunks. I'd recommend if you want a quick Icecream fix, but if pressed for time then no need to stop.

We stayed one night at this location during our Iceland trip. We found the room to be basic, but very clean and comfortable. Wi-Fi in the rooms was nice but a bit slow. The drive to Hofn (closest town) was about 25 min and there were some public hot springs about a 5 min drive away (Sorry, cannot remember exact directions but front desk staff will point you in the right direction- not hard to find). Good breakfast buffet in the morning and amazing views of the glacier.

This is such a nice place and was one of our favorites in Iceland. The rooms are quite spacious with good quality beds, a shelf to get a big suitcase off the floor and a generous sized bathroom. They do an excellent job in the restaurant. The night we were there was a big buffet with delicious items like smoked lamb and curried fish casserole, plus a decent choice of wine. We loved sitting outside looking over the fields and mountains with a glass a wine. Breakfast was equally good with a big spread of traditional European choices, cereals, yogurt, pancakes, etc. Very nice, helpful staff.

The entire place was spacious and very clean, and our room with an ensuite toilet had ample heating. Cooking facilities were in another building nearby, kitchen was a bit dirty though around the cooking area. There was also free wifi.

Because the reception had an automated door that opened when you came in, we were left wondering sometime late at night after they had locked up, how we were supposed to get out and come in. Had wanted to get out to see if we would be able to catch any auroras.

Continental breakfast was served in their nicely kept dining area. It felt good to dine with warm sunshine through the windows, because we have had rain for the 3 days since we've arrived in Iceland. Of course, we were entertained with a sheepdog chasing the cows opposite.

You get the view of the glacier from across the farm, and if I remembered correctly, there was a church/graveyard somewhere nearby. I could be wrong.

Remember to try their ice cream. Not too sweet, just right for the buds. One scoop would cost around 4500 ISK.

The stay would have been perfect, but the owner looked kind of grouchy and unfriendly, and that put us off a little.

I got there by accident (hitchhiking) and just asking where the next backpackerhostel is the extremely friendly owner made me a special price to stay overnight. I had a really relaxed evening in the nice atmosphere of this Guesthouse. It is right next to the main road and a very good starting point for the Glacier. Recommended by a Budget-traveler
