“Really great provincial destination with luxurious touches”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2014

I loved staying at this upgraded hotel looking over the market place outside. This is a true gem in the heart of an interesting old city. We last stayed there in 2003 and it has since had a face lift with new wall papers and other very modern appointment. Comfortable bed in spacious room with lots of windows. Excellent bathroom. Lovely touches such as a basket with additional towels and good toiletries.
The staff do everything they can to be helpful.
Enormous buffet breakfast hot and cold was very good.
We ate in the restaurant - service needs to be a lot more sophisticated; we had to ask for the wine list several times but overall a very enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: Looking over the market place but for real tranquility - at the back over the courtyard.

A nice hotel with helpful and pleasant staff.
The restaurant is good and very popular.
The rooms are comfortable but the design and decoration is industrial - looks like a committee did the job.
A major criticism would be the low energy lighting throughout the hotel. The rooms are terribly lit and it's very hard to see much even with all the lights in the room on. The pool area is equally dingy. The management are aware of the problem but nothing has been done.
A note for UK visitors, unlike UK hotels German hotels only have showers, not baths, and do not provide tea making facitities (they kindly provided us with a small travel kettle though)

Duderstadt is a very nice small german city;
Perfect to walk around and spend a night in this fabulous hotel.

The hotel is renovated last year and is really nice finished.
You really inter in a atmosphere from latest design and nice arts

Breakfast and food is great.

They even have a urban roofgarden with chickens!
They are very friendly to small children but also to grownups...

There aren't many tourists in Duderstadt but this charming town is right out of a storybook. We stayed at the Zum Lowen Hotel. This hotel has just been through a complete renovation and is a beautiful modern hotel on the inside. We stayed in room 302. The rooms are a nice size and the bathroom is equipped with everything you need, even a full size hair dryer! The beds and pillows are amazing! IPhone/IPod speaker system beside the bed. Breakfast was very nice with eggs, bacon, cereals, yogurt, salmon and assorted breads. Dinner at the hotel was first class with a nice wine selection. The spa here is amazing but there is a catch...it is a typical European spa which means only a towel is allowed in the steam rooms and dry saunas. The experience showers are open in common areas; these are rain shower stalls with different scents such as rain forest, tropical, etc. They have a state of the art gym and will be offering massages soon. The pool is beautiful. It is truly a serenity spa experience not to be missed.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 302. Some rooms have a small balcony, ours did not. Very quiet.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013 via mobile

We stayed for three nights over New Year's. The hotel has been recently refurbished and the decoration was a lot more modern than I expected however with enough homely touches to give a real 'gemuetlich' environment. A travel cot was provided for our son with the most delightful duvet cover (rather than the bog standard white sheets we've had in every other hotel we've ever stayed in with him) and our beds were very comfortable if firm. They also adhere to the standard German set up of two singles in a double bed frame with separate duvets too, although the mattresses were very tightly pushed together without a gap.

The breakfast was a fabulous brunch with different choices everyday and an adorable waitress for whom nothing was too much bother.

The hotel is located on the main pedestrian drag through Duderstadt but there is parking available for guests. It's great location and I can't recommend this hotel enough!

Stayed here for 3 weeks whilst getting treatment at Otto Bock. Staff were fantastic, really nice and hospitable. The food was amazing. The property is perfectly located in the heart of the old town. The decor is a little aged, but very comfortable and everything worked perfectly. Reasonable price too. Would definitely stay there again.
