“Mixed feelings”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

Recently I spent two nights in different rooms at the Chester Beatty. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are a good size, clean with 100% cotton linen, feather dovet/ pillows and a good shower, however the corridor outside the door on the ground floor smelt so bad I had to hold my breath. I was going by the back door to the kitchen on my way to the bar when I looked in to see the comi chef who had just been outside smoking with other kitchen staff use his bare hands put different salads on a plate, When he went away I had a good eyeball of the kitchen and was appalled at the state of it, piled up grease, chips and other foods scattered about, a steak just lying there off the grill in the open as if was waiting for a customer to order one and it would be put back on the grill. So eating in the hotel was not an option for me!!!

Stayed here at the weekend past and thought it was fantastic. I arrived late evening so can't comment on dinner or the pub, but the rooms and breakfast were excellent. The rooms were clean, fresh and beds were perfect. Breakfast was superb, the lady who served us was a pleasure to deal with.

It's not every hotel that provides a bed warmer for OAP visitors and as for having your puddings plus some lovely chocs delivered to your room so you could watch a TV programme - that goes well above and beyond the call of duty! We picked the hotel because of the glowing reports on Tripadvisor and they were not wrong.
Don't be put off by the setting - this is a gem of a hotel with lovely rooms and a splendid restaurant. The menu is amazing - you'll have trouble choosing - but we can heartily recommend the steaks and the lamb - and that's only because we didn't have time to try anything else. The raspberry sorbet was out of this world.
The breakfast lived up to our expectations - pancakes with bacon and maple syrup - WOW and that delicious porridge.
Thank you Ann and staff - we'll be back.

After our first visit just had to return; restaurant and hotel to be recommended. Great location and coach from Dublin airport coach takes you to within a 3-minute walk of hotel, couldn't be easier to access. Love the new Bistro menu and the rooms/beds are so comfortable, you can't fail to have a good night's sleep! Well worth a visit for either meal or overnight stay.

Stayed in this hotel for a New Year break and what a find! It is situated in a small and pretty village - easily accessible from Dublin airport via car or the airport bus which stops right outside the hotel taking just over an hour. The rooms were of a very high standard, clean, comfortable and well appointed and the management and staff went out of their way to ensure our stay was enjoyable. Food was superb, both in the bar and in the Yew Tree Restaurant and breakfast was of a very high standard. It was a pleasure to return to the hotel after a long walking day and enjoy the ambience of the bar and the warmth of the log fires. The New Years Eve Champagne Buffet served in the Yew Tree restaurant followed by dancing to a live band into the early hours was a great way to celebrate the turn of the year. We'll be recommending to our friends and will be certain to return before very long. Hotels like this are hard to find.

Just returned from 2 nights over New Year. Gala dinner was fantastic, Top Class food, wine ( and Guiness! ) plus tremendous entertainment. How the band kept going for so long beats me but they did and were first class. Throughout our stay hospitality was first class and food always excellent quality and value. Recommend the local sausages and bacon at breakfast. Lovely welcoming log fires in lounge and bar help create a truly homely atmosphere. The new owners and all the staff were very friendly (recommend Mary's breakfasts) and nothing was too much trouble.

Stayed here just before Christmas in the height of the snow! The new owners are currently renovating the bedrooms and we were lucky enough to be treated to one of these - beautiful! Relaxing, warm & cosy, didnt want to leave! Usually would visit different restaurants but couldnt pass up on the food served at The Yew Tree, really delicious, morning, noon & night! A few different bands played in the evenings during our stay, very enjoyable time and will certainly be back again & again - booked for the New year before we left!
