We had our wedding reception here in August and stayed in the hotel for the week leading up to the wedding and an extra night afterwards and we loved it. Everyone is so friendly and went out of their way to help in any way they could. We had the 'honeymoon' suite for the week, which is room 101 at the front of the hotel over looking the harbour. It's beautiful. It has a lovely big four poster bed with the most amazing views through the big bay window. The room is very large with lovely soft carpets, a beautiful dressing tale, long mirrors, coffee table and chairs by the window and tea and coffee making facilities. Absolutely perfect and my little haven away from the madness of the week! I saw quite a few of the other rooms and all of them were great, lots of space and nicely decorated. The family rooms had bunk beds so we had some very happy children!
Leading up to the wedding and throughout our stay everyone was unbelievably friendly and helpful. All our guests complimented the food and accommodation and commented on how nice the staff are. This is a charming hotel. I know they have invested a lot of time and effort into renovating it over the last year and it has really paid off. From when I first saw it in January 2013 to the wedding in August the change was incredible. They are tackling it a room at a time.
The food in the restaurant is lovely. Huge portions and all freshly made. The seasfood platter is well worth trying, really tasty! The full Irish breakfast is the perfect way to start a day exploring Kerry. On our final morning we had to check out at 5.30am and mentioned this to Michelle on reception and she organised for fresh brown bread with butter and jams to be left in our room the night before. This was a really nice touch.
There isn't wifi in the rooms but there is in the main communal areas. The first floor landing has a table and chairs where you can sit and log into the wifi. And seating in the huge bay window on the staircase and in the reception area. It wasn't a hassle for us.
I'm slightly biased because this was my wedding and therefore it was an extraordinary week but I can honestly say that I have no complaints. It really is a beautiful hotel full of character. It's quirky, very Irish and I was delighted to share it with our overseas guests who all loved it.
The hotel, the bar, the staff and the locals really played such a huge role in making our 'wedding week' the amazing week that it was and I would highly recommend it to anyone. We are already looking at our calendar to see when we can next book a weekend stay there!
