“Superb, world-class food and understanding staff. Genius!”
I have visited this gorgeous little bit of Heaven twice, the first time was on the 22nd of September; the second was exactly one week later.
This being the case, I am surprised to have read about the allegedly 'smelly toilets'.
I only found extremely clean facilities and - as a disabled person - this is particularly important to me. I can only conclude that the negative report might well be a case of 'he who smelt it - dealt it! Furthermore, I have found that in life - as a general rule of thumb, a freely given smile on arrival anywhere will on the whole be reciprocated. Conversely, if you roll up determined to find fault, you will no doubt get your heart's desire.
Naturally, there are exceptions and if you read my reviews of other places experienced along the way during our time in Ireland– you will see that not every restaurant or hostelry meets our particular ‘friendship’ criteria - and few reach the incredibly high standards of Cox’s.
I walked into this perfect pub and restaurant with my husband - and was met by friends from the UK - who were on a fishing trip. Their presence was a total surprise (a bit of a 'gotcha' really) and Dave stood resplendent in a Halloween witches' hat with long grey wig; whilst his poor pal Bruce merely wore a long-suffering expression.
The staff took Dave’s stunt in good part and we all went on to enjoy a mouth-watering roast rib of beef with creamy mash, swede and cabbage. I washed my beautiful meal down with Bulmers draught Cider and it was all utterly sublime.
It was my first time back home since a bad accident last year and what a wonderful way to celebrate our return to the Old Sod.
I would kill to be able to find such a wonderful place to dine in the UK. Cox’s has it all; fast, efficient, helpful yet unpretentious staff and surroundings.
We resolved to eat at Cox's on the following Saturday en route to Dun Laoghaire and did so (please see my later review) Good Lord, I am already dreaming about my next holiday.
