This resort offers an incredibly relaxing vacation. Where to start...the resort itself is gorgeous. I would strongly recommend spending the extra money and getting a hillside suite. The second you walk into your private bungalow you will forget about what you spent. The outdoor space is at least as large as your room. The plunge pool is larger than I assumed - at least 10x10 - and offers an incredible view of the Caribbean Sea. My wife and I were in #23 which is one of the lower units but still high enough. Two outdoor sitting areas and an outdoor shower (large and beautifully enclosed with foliage) were impressive. The bedroom had a very tall ceiling with a mosquito net that cascades over the bed. Finally, the bathroom is quite large with a separate tub that sits next to a large window that opens to face the ocean. I don't want to spend too much space repeating what has been said on this site many times but here is what I would recommend:
Take John's nature walk around the hills that adjoin the resport. It takes you to a few secluded beaches and will give you a greater appreciation of Antigua - John is part guide, historian, and comedian. Snorkel. There is a reef that runs parallel to the shoreline (about 20 feet off the beach) and even my wife who cannot swim was able to enjoy it. Appreciate how genuinely nice the people who work their are. There is no expected tipping at any point but a sincere thank you and $10 or so to some of your favorites will be much appreciated. Be ready to eat. Many all-inclusive resorts will offer small portions of varied quality. Here I had an ample cut of Beef Wellington, Lobster tail, etc. The chef is phenomenal as the high quality of the dinners were equaled by the breakfast and lunch. Try something different. My wife and I did the 1 hour yoga class and loved it.
A few negatives: Nothing that they really can do but the mosquitos are an issue. While the canopy over the bed is romantic the fact is that it is also practical. As has been said by many others the beach is shelly which really is a minor issue. I wish they had a full lounge area with a gas fire wall to relax in and enjoy the live music at dinner. Other resorts also have large two-person hammocks just off the beach - this would be appreciated.
These all pale in comparison to the long list of positives. As points of comparison, my wife and I have been to Sandals Royal Bahamian and The Veranda (Turks and Caicos) - both all-inclusives - Hermitage Bay easily beats Sandals and edges out The Veranda.

We spent a few days here and couldn't believe how relaxing it was. We chose a sea front bungalow as we like swimming in the sea and were surprised to learn that was the cheapest accommodation available. The bungalows get more expensive as you go up the hill- I suppose their views are better and some of them had their own pool. The dining room is made up of 3 tiers so no matter where you sit you can enjoy the sea views as you eat some of the most delicious food served with good wines. Considering this venue is an all inclusive one the drinks were all recognised brands and the food was of an excellent quality. Because the maximum number of guests is just over 50 it is quite an intimate ambience where you recognise the same faces and can chat to fellow guests, however if you want to be alone and not mix with other guests you can do this just as easily. A word of warning though, the bathroom and dressing room are open plan so the WC is not compartmentalised which took a bit of getting used to!! Considering it is very much a couples destination within a romantic setting, I didn't find the toilet arrangements very romantic!!! That apart it was a wonderful hotel where the staff went out of their way to be friendly and obliging, the colours of the bay were as the picture postcards show, and the sand was like white talcum powder beneath your feet. Heaven here on earth is as we found it.

Room Tip: Sea front rooms are right on the beach, handy if you want to swim in the sea. More expensive bungalo...

fantastic staff which made us feel right at home. very intimate feel (6-8 other couples when we were there). spent 8 days in total bliss and relaxation. the food was good and the jerk chicken was fantastic. you have to try the hot sauce! the beach isn't soft sand (shells) so be aware.

if you're looking for a place where your typical day is waking up, walking 50 feet to the beach and having a server brink you your favorite drink (by day 1 they know your name and by day 2 they know what you like!) and bum it all day on the beach.. this is the place for you!

This was our second visit to Hermitage after trying somewhere else.
As a returning guest we were made to feel even more special than before, service with a genuine smile.
The hillside villas provide seclusion with a spectacular ocean view.
Good mini bar restocked daily, complimentary champagne on arrival.
Good quality restaurant food, well presented and varied, combined with an extra wine list if you are a lover.
The deep sea fishing is well worth a try and such great fun, went 3 times, always caught something of a decent size but that Marlin still eludes me, oh well, reason to go back i suppose!

Room Tip: The higher the room number the better the view

Until recently 'incredible' was a word I seldom used. I filed it away, along with 'awesome', in the 'Inappropriately and Overused Adjective' folder of my lexicon; that was until I had the pleasure of staying at Hermitage Bay, Antigua. When asked to describe this 5* couples only boutique hotel, nestled in its own secluded bay, 'incredible' seems completely appropriate.

The first thing you'll notice are the staff's smiles. I have never before received such a welcome. Walk through the lobby and there it is; that vista that you've been drooling over on hermitagebay.com for months; the shimmering turquoise, flanked by lush green hills, blue sky and white sand. It looks like it's been Photoshop'd! You're asked whether you want a drink, snack or meal. You place your order and ask, slightly jet lagged, 'Can we have it there?' Pointing sheepishly to an unset table near the bar. Your beautiful waitress responds in what you'll come to know as typical fashion, 'Of course. This is your place. You can have it wherever you want.' There and then you exhale, look up to the God who created Five Stars and know you're in for an amazing stay.

Very quickly you realise everything at Hermitage Bay is geared toward your happiness, through an ethos of complete flexibility and attention to detail. What I found amazing, was the way in which it was delivered. For example, my wife has a wheat and lactose allergy. I am allergic to nuts. The chefs seemed to revel in the challenge. They baked special wheat free bread and crackers. One evening we were told that the pastry chef had 'created something special' for her, completely impromptu and separate to the evening's vast three course menu. A dairy free dark chocolate desert. Needless to say, my wife was pleased. There was no sense of performance or training manual recital. The staff aren't droids either. They delivered their service with complete individuality, but all with a cohesive spine of strong service pride. Everyone from management down, displayed an uncommon sense of ownership and are all clearly very proud of what they do and represent.

If you're planning a beach wedding, then I can't recommend it enough. Hermitage has a strict 'one wedding per week' rule, and Ayesha, the hotel's wedding coordinator is just amazing! She dealt patiently with my then fiancé's endless emails, considered every single detail and created a perfect bespoke wedding day we will treasure for life!

Hermitage Bay isn't cheap. We were planning our day and an amazing honeymoon, so for us spending that kind of cash seemed justifiable, but if you're planning a vacation, with an emphasis on relaxation, quality and tranquility, you won't leave feeling disappointed or cheated for that matter. The 'experience' you'll fly away with is as tangible as the suitcases you'll be clutching; and like any luxury item, you'll use those memories time and time again with a smile, knowing it was money well spent. We are already planning our return. Three year anniversary perhaps!

First off.. if your even thinking about Hermitage Bay.... GO, what are you waiting for!!!!
This resort is AMAZING!
So our group of 3 couples had our 10 year friends reunion here and could not have been happier. It took FOREVER and a day to find that perfect location... how do you top Vatulele in Fiji? HERMITAGE BAY thats how. It took 4 months to find and once booked the countdown began. Sad to say... its now weeks behind us :( We traveled from May 26th to May 31st. We booked almost a year out and just kept the countdown going. One couple from Michigan, one couple from Australia and us from San Diego CA baby!
10 children between all of us, so sans kiddos a much needed and deserved vaca!
Enough with the history... The resort! Ok... so the ride to the resort is "not so great" but if you have been outside the US nothing you can not handle.... Once inside the gate of Hermitage Bay, you have offically entered Antigua Heaven! All on Antigua time, sit back, relax and enjoy. We had the highest villa/suite number 39, our MI friends #38 and Aussies #36. Wanna get some exercise while on vaca book the top suites... 167 steps to our suite... then down 5 or 6 steps to our heaven. The rooms, amazing the view from up above to die for! We had a ant problem which after a day of spraying was taken care of....There is a inroom mini bar, remove stuff ask for stuff you really need and its done. You get the form at breakfast each morning, just ask for what you want and they are happy to provide. The all inclusive is top notch, not once did we have to venture into the seperate wine/cocktail list... its amazing. Next up... the food! Whoever said it's ok, dont judge, judge for yourself!... we eat at 5/6 star restaurants to enjoy our life and the food here is no different. the menus change every couple of days and we were never sad with our choices! The staff? OH MY how do you comment? They ALL made us feel like queens and kings and deserve a huge pat on the back for doing such a phenominal job. You actually have choices to keep yourself active.. but why make a change from 10 years ago?? We just enjoyed ourselves and loved every moment. Be warned... you might run into stuffy folks who just like to complain, stay strong and remember why you booked this amazing resort... Hermitage Bay is AMAZING! Thank you everyone at the resort.. you made our reunion the reunion we all deserved! xoxoxo aka the "six pack". Any questions... please email me!

Room Tip: I sleep with a fan, so the noise of the "whatever" never bothered us.... Want a amazing...

Although we did not stay at this resort we did have the pleasure of visiting it while we visted Antigua. The resort was beautiful. We didnt get to see a room as the resort was fully booked but the property itself was impressive. The staff was extremely nice and the pool sat right in front of the beach with a lovely sitting area and small bar.

Room Tip: There are only a few rooms located directly on the beach but even if you get a room thats not on it...
