“The perfect family beach hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

We stayed here to attend a wedding with our two children (aged 10 and 12). The hotel is expensive but the all-inclusive is really all-inclusive so the only money we spent beyond the room rate was the taxi to and from the airport. The hotel is luxury but has a Caribbean relaxed ambience, with attentive and professional management, without being pretentious or overly ostentatious - exactly what I like! There were no vast expanses of pointless marble or snooty restaurants. Instead there was great quality service, good rooms and the best beach ever! I guess if you are looking for a quiet place to escape to for a honeymoon, this might not be the place for you as it does have a high quota of families. The flip side is that it is brilliant for families! All that said, the place never felt busy or overrun by kids and I think the hotel would be OK for everyone so long as you don't actually object to children! We had a beach suite which was great - 2 bedrooms and a big bathroom - with a terrace and steps down onto the beach with the sea about 10 yards away! The beach was perfect sand with a shallow slope outwards, so really good for the kids to play in. The restaurants were excellent and the food was of a high standard without being pretentious. The mosquitos are rather prevalent so take some good bug spray and apply liberally from evening onwards.

Room Tip: We had Suite 19 which was right next to the bar & restuarant and other facilities. Very good loc...

After a gap of 4 years we revisited Carlisle Bay in May, it is even better than before and we cannot wait to go back. It is the ultimate destination if you want a totally relaxing vacation. The staff are fantastic and despite it being a few years since our last visit any staff we had encountered previously came and greeted us by name and welcomed us back. The rooms are still fabulous, spacious, clean and with all amenities provided - upmarket toiletries and even bug spray which is sometimes needed during the rainy season although the hotel do regularly spray the grounds at dusk. Food and service is now first class with plenty of choice for dinner particularly on nights when East restaurant is open. Breakfast can be taken in Indigo or in your room, we usually opt for breakfast on our balcony, followed by lunch on the beach or by the pool.
The only improvement would be if East restaurant could be opened up either onto the pool area or maybe into the Pavilion so that East's menu could be experienced in a more Caribbean setting than a stylish air conditioned room. Our only other comment would be please bring back live music for more than 2 nights a week, the Pavilion Bar would definitely benefit from live music during the pre dinner period at least. On one of the nights we were staying a Steel Band played during this time and it completely changed the atmosphere.
Well done to Jonathan, Edwin, Elza and all their staff for a very enjoyable stay, we hope we will see you all again in the not too distant future.

Room Tip: If you want a view of the beach from the room and balcony and views of the rain forest from the bat...

We stayed here back in October 2012 & had a wonderful family trip to your hotel and the beautiful Antigua. Having done a bit of travelling in the past I always make it my mission to provide feedback mostly on trip advisor.

Overall, we had a brilliant stay and would definitely like to visit in the future. The staff were so friendly & the kids club was nice. I noted down a few things about each part of the hotel.

The Library was a really lovely room, lots of great books & cool when it was so hot outside. It was rather frustrating when for our entire stay only one of the computers seemed to have Internet. I did report it but it never got fixed. I think that's something that should have been addressed immediately.

The Spa, was fabulous and the gym was great. I had a brilliant massage from Michelle. I also booked in for a manicure which was fine. However I thought that the range of colours on offer was disappointing, especially for the price you pay for such a treatment. I would expect to see all the top brands on offer, OPI, Essie etc..

The restaurants were great and always so accommodating. it was a shame that East wasn't open.

The main restaurant was our favourite. Though at times service was extremely slow even when the restaurant was at full capacity. There was lots of pre- ordering by larger groups which took priority over smaller groups despite arriving earlier. This became frustrating.

The room itself was a great size for us. The cot was also extremely useful, so thank you. We did think that the hotel needed to invest in upgrading the family rooms a bit, as elements of the room were very tired looking. Our lamp shades had stains on and the curtains were faded and looked old. In addition, the metal hinges in the bathroom were full of dirt that had collected over time. This really isn't what we would expect from a 5 star.

We chose Carlisle Bay as the location for our wedding and I'm so glad we did. It is a truly special hotel that manages to combine 5 star luxury with a laid back Caribbean vibe. Impeccable service without being overbearing and stuffy - a hard balance to find. We were given a wedding co-ordinator called Avlyn who did a wonderful job helping plan the perfect day. She listened to our requests, made suggestions and sorted out any problems, always with a smile. We planned a ceremony on the sand, followed by a beach BBQ dinner for our 31 guests. It was really beautiful and perfectly organised. I wanted a wedding that was personal, elegant, beautiful and relaxed and that is exactly what Carlisle Bay gave us. It certainly does not churn up the 'factory weddings' that you'd find at other hotels on the island. The wedding BBQ, as with all meals at the hotel, was superb and included such things as fresh seafood, lobster, steaks. Management at the hotel was the most attentive I've ever experienced. From Jonathan Reynolds (GM) to the Resort Managers, Edwin and Ailsa (apologies if I spelt any names wrong), nothing was too much trouble. They were ever-present which is a refreshing change to many other hotels - on hand to welcome guests, check all is OK and to answer any questions. When I was ill, Ailsa called several times day to check I was OK, bring medicines and offer light meals, which was very much appreciated. The hotel is expensive but when you are there you realise exactly what you are getting for your money. You can basically eat a la carte at any of the restaurants and have a wide choice of wines to choose from. We have 2 small children and kids club provided activities such as turtle watching on a speed boat. Rooms are clean, modern and spacious with maids coming in twice a day to service them. They do a marvellous job and deserve a special thank you. We are very grateful to Carlisle Bay for giving us the wedding of our dreams. It will always have a special place in our hearts and we'll certainly be back!

Room Tip: For families the Beach Terrace rooms are great as you can lie in bed and watch the kids playing on t...

Loved this hotel. Great location for a flop and drop, not too far from the airport and almost
exclusive access to a quiet bay. The beach is fantastic and the ocean is like a millpond thanks
to the natural barriers. Service on the beach is perfect (ie not overwhelming) cold towels, cool
box with water, cold towels, fruit (all gratis) and afternoon tea. Furthermore, there's never a
queue at the bar.

The rooms are huge, modern and minimalist with a lounge area, mini bar, daily fruit, huge bed, deep bath, double shower, twin sinks, his and hers wardrobes, robes, slippers etc etc

Food is amongst the best I've experienced in the Caribbean and the absence of a cooked breakfast buffet (a la carte) works well and makes breakfast a lot more civilized than in similar resorts. Lunch and dinner are simply fantastic and service is excellent (by Caribbean standards). Five days just wasn't enough. The Far Eastern themed restaurant is superb, but we preferred the beachside restaurant mainly for the surroundings. All Inclusive is a must
though as everything is expensive and there didn't appear to be anything close by.

For sporty types there's kayaking, windsurfing, paddleboarding and diving. The tennis courts are superb (apparently the best in the Caribbean), the gym and award winning spa look the business too, but not my really bag.

The resort is popular with families but they are one end of the beach and couples are another
which works quite well, so tranquility is only ruined by those who seem to think everyone
wishes to share in their conversations.

Can't really fault Carlisle Bay and will definitely return.

It was our first time in Antigua and at Carlisle Bay - and we couldn't have made a better choice. We were a party of 4 adults and a five-year-old, very eager for lots of R&R and a break from Europe's cold spring. Our trip was in late May and such a good time for it - the high season is over so no queues for meals at any of the hotel's restaurants or activities. The food is just fantastic, especially at East, and by far the best I have had in the Caribbean. Bento boxes on the beach for lunch? Yes please. All-inclusive places tend to discard the importance of the food quality, but not here. The beach setting is just stunning, a beautiful calm bay with a backdrop of lush rainforest hills. The kids' club was a big plus. We can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: Choose the Beach Suites and step directly onto the sand every morning. Bliss.
